Hi slickcut, When I had 9, I remember it happened on the next day and then I was having it for like 3 weeks...lol! ANyway, what I have noticed is that when we are active rating our friends, we maintain having our 10...I do know if it's really true to all but that is what I have observed since I have this 10 for quite sometime! ANyway, glad to hear you back! Enjoy!

Thank you! Yes "ike" set me back awhile thats for sure, but i am back into the running now...I always rate my friends and mylotters when i answer their discussions and when they reply to mine...I always rate them a +, I mean after all they are nice to answer my discussions so i always rate them a + for their answer...I also do not rate then a minus ,if they do not agree,to me that is wrong...

I think maybe you began to answer the discussions at a time when they were updating the rating information; I believe they update these the next day for previous day's ratings..

Yep..my star went from a 10 - 96/100 overnight. It's now 89/100. It's dropped to 88 for a few days then back up to 89. It's been months now. I really don't see the purpose of the stars. The system is open to abuse.

I don't see how we can be so open to that abuse..How does one person have so much power over your star? that seems so bad(abusive) as you said...I mean it seems like mylot would look at the discussion where you have been accused and at least judge for themselves if it is even fair to lower your star...Disagreeing is not a good reason, also giving your opinion is not a good reason, and i did none of that,i never disagreed or used bad language or anything,i just answered discussions...Im like you i see no reason for the stars,if they can be used as a source of abuse by other mylotters...

I've seen one member here who comes on and complains all the time about certain of the members, the discussions, so called trolls and abuse....it seems every post is a rant of some sort and yet she is still a 10...I don't understand it.

Yes I have had that happen to me twice. I asked myLot friends about it the same as you just did and I was told it was because we have trolls out here. I had no idea what they were talking about and made myself look like an idiot but I asked again and was told trolls are people who rate you negitively and it brings down your star and credit score. I do not know however if that is the way it really is or just thoughts from people. Either way it is very disappointing.

well if that is the way it works then that is totally unfair...Why is Mylot allowing this to happen? do they just take these "trolls" word for it and never check it out to see if its true..I do not think any of us should have that much power to bring each other down..Thats wrong! if we disagree with someone that is not abuse unless of course a person is really nasty,i mean this is a discussion web-site,and we should be able to have an opinion without being treated unfairly..

It happened to me once. I started at a 6 then someone did not like my response in another discussion group. It is just appropriate to talk about that in that group, i know. well, i dropped from 6 to a 4. i guess i just let it be since my ultimate goal here is to have fun and tyo share my ideas and thoughts. Good day!

I have a 9 star and have had it for quite some time now. I don't really pay much attention to the stars. But I do try to get involved in the discussions with people who have a higher number of stars.

it happened the next day. i came on and went from a 9 to an 8. took about a month to get back up to a 9. i haven't even been a 10 and i don't know how to get it up that high. but, it could happen. one person marking you negatively will push it down a bit so, i guess someone probably didn't like what you said in one of your discussions.

very true and i do agree with you on that. but you can't keep an eye on everyone and there are always going to be people who misuse something. i only use the (-) when its abuse or spam or maybe if the answer is no where near the topic of conversation.

I know emarie but it is not fair for someone to rate you bad just because you do not agree.I think mylot should check this out & judge for themselves rather it is abusive or not.I mean disagreeing is not abuse, thats just your opinion and that should be able to be said without being cast down..

I said I didn't worry about my start value either, until it was dropped from a 10 to a 9. That drop happened about a year ago, and was a result of participating in the wrong discussion and it hasn't returned to a 10 in all that time. It happened pretty fast, I am not sure if it was in an hour though, it may have taken them a day to lower my star value. I don't get over here all that often any more, I have almost 20 web sites now, mostly blogs and that keeps me pretty busy, but I do like to come over and say hi to friends. Perhaps if I were here daily posting new discussions and answering others in good neighbourhoods I might get my 10 star back but I am a bit too busy these days to put a lot of time into getting my star rating back.

thats one thing i do not really understand either.i did not respond to anyone badly, mostly my friends..When i first started my lot ,i got a 10 right away, then it dropped to a 9,.its been that way for a year, then all of a sudden it went to a 10 one day & then dropped within an hour..I know your star drops when somwone rates you a minus but it seems so unfair, because one person should not have that much power over your star...I MEAN IT SEEMS LIKE MYLOT WOULD LOOK THE DISCUSSION UP AND SEE IF YOU ACTUALLY DESERVE WHAT others rated you before just knocking your star down, you would think..

Hi Slick. That happens when you don't give the right answer. I've had it happen to me. However they are not going to get my goat and I could care less. But some people hold a grudge and will attack you if you do not agree with them. Hopefully they get some meds.

The FAQs state that it is not possible for one person to lower your star rating or sabotage you. However, it has been happening big time to those of us who support McCain in the US elections. My star was a 9 and is now a 6 and it will probably be a 5 tomorrow, since it says 58/100 now as a 6. Almost everyone who has posted in favor of McCain has seen a dramatic drop in their star ratings, from 9-10 to 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and a couple of them have completely lost their stars!! I don't think it's one person; it's several. They minus anyone that they do not agree with. BUT the FAQs say we should + any post that contributes to the discussion, esp encouraging more discussion, NOT whether or not we agree. The minus is for those that are off topic entirely or that really don't contribute not because we don't like what they say but because what they wrote has no bearing on the discussion, or cannot be understood. Still, the Obama supporters, for the most part, have their high rated stars but the McCain supporters have lost theirs. I'm just glad that it doesn't affect our earnings. It seems to take more to build up your star points than it takes to drop them lower, doesn't it?

Yes the star drops really fast..But still it is not fair for others to gang up on you just because they do not agree. It is so foolish to me...

Maybe the ratings was based on mylot algorithm.I've heard about on some discussions. I was only 3 star yesterday, and today i got 5 star rating. That's still a mystery for us how this really works.I even think that best response we made has to do with the stars we earn or could be the positive rating of your posts.but, exactly, still we don't know.. Or mylot made it a unrevealed to for us members to make better post??hehehe.just making a wild guess.

Well what a star means is how popular you are...As you get to making friends and opening discussions and answering questions you will be getting stars..and also being rated as to your popularity..When you open a good discussion most mylotters will rate you with a +,which is what you see to the right of your answer ,question ,etc..as they rate you a + your star goes up..Well we have a few nasty people on here that we call "trolls" they want everyone to agree with them, rather they are right or wrong, well they ask your opinion and if you tell them something or give them advice, and they don't like it they will rate you a - meaning it makes your star go down..Well this is an open forum where you have opinions and most people are nice,in fact most mylotters are nice people ,except for a few ,it happens even in everyday life...Well it is not fair for them to give you a - or minus just because they don't like your answer, but some will do it anyway..these are the "trolls" ...i hope i have explained this so you can understand..being new you will learn more & more each day..Just hang in ther because basically this is a very good site...

I had this happen to me a long time ago. I was shocked but with time I got back my stars. Now I don't worry about it. You will always have people who will rate you negative because they don't agree with your discussions and your point of view.

Yours dropped one star in an hour. Mine ell, from 84 to 69 in 2 hours. . I used to worry a lot about these stars, but then I realised that they are not worth the fuming. It all depends on one wrong person o throw you down. So I still try to post quality responses and make the most of the time that I'm here. Although it hurts to see the hard earned starts going down, no more fretting about it. bourne

I have found it happens to ne when I respond to a political discussion and someone on the thread does not like what I said, not because I was nasty, but because it did not agree wuth them.

well that is not a reason to turn anyone in or make their star rating go down..I mean, i know it is happening but thats not fair,if that be the case we are forced to comply with others are our rating goes down and thats not fair..This is a discussion web-site,and we should NOT be to where we are unable to share our opinions...I think mylot should take more interest in this star rating, its not fair that other mylotters have this much control...I can understand if a person is really nasty or just totally rude & unjust but just because you do not agree is not a good enough reason to harm each other..This ir really unfair..Don't you think?

Well I just + rated all of your responses so perhaps your scores will go up again and mine will probably go down because someone probably will not like it. I do not know how they work out the ratings. They never make sense.
