I do not own a cell phone. I do not want a cell phone. Now after something that I heard of I REALLY don't want one now. Seems if you have a cell phone and you delete texts and images from your phone that you had recieved, they are not deleted actually. They may no longer be available to you on the phone but....They are stored on the website of your provider. So someone can actually know all that you've been doing on your phone etc. This is too eerie for me. Did you know this infor at all? Have you gone to your providers site to retrieve files that you had deleted from your phone in the past? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Yes it is stored by the cellphone provider but so are all the emails, photos, mylot and everything else you do online so it is basically the same thing. Everything is stored by your service provider.

So have you seen your info stored on the puter at all? Does one need to set up an account aside from the cell phone service to access this info? Or is it out there for anyone at all to access? Too scary for me really. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

You get free access to your account online and it is private unless someone has your password.

I woud guess in all areas if the providers have a web site in the country. It's kind of scary to a poi9nt. I would guess the phone user sets up an account with a password. So not anyone at all can get access. But the fact the info is stored is scary enough. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I did not know that, but it doesn't sound quite right to me. I recently had my text messaging feature removed from my phone. I have a plan through "Telus Mobility", and they started charging for both outgoing AND incoming texts. I refuse to pay for incoming, because I have no control over whether or not I accept them. And I don't use the texting feature enough to warrant purchasing one of their texting plans each month.

Most modern technologies allow for human error when it comes to deleting files. They'll ask you "are you sure you want to delete?". Personally, if I were to delete something, especially after being asked that, I would consider it completely gone for good.

That is terrible. We have a cheap prepaid phone that my husband and I use for emergencies only when he is away from home. We do text back and forth to each other at other times too though. I think that is an invasion of privacy. I'm not sure if these prepaid phones actually have those types of things or not.

Okay I didn't know they could retrieve that kind of info! I do know that if you upload them they go to the provider's website but under your own profile. That is kind of scary, I didn't know that they could see the photos, and anyone can? Wow. Am glad I don't have a camera phone anynore! I appreciate the info!

I use a tracfone. I prepay as I go. I do not send texts and I do not take pictures. I do not think that this would be a problem for me. It is the same with the computer, I think.

Well, granpa, they have access to onstar data base as well & if somebody wanted to, they can track down on where you are & where you have been for past so many hours or days or whatever. Or at least where your car have been. They can even listen in on your conversation in your car if you're carrying on a conversation with someone in the car. One of the ways that the onstar contacts you when you get into an accident is exactly that. In case there's been an accident, & the person inside the car can't talk, they have the ability to tune into your car & see if there's any noise of movements inside the cabin of the car. Again, I'm not trying to sound like one of those "paranoid Conspiracy theory" people but that's just a commonly known fact & feature of "OnStar" service. Now you know. Next time when you decide to come up with some sort of plan against someone, I wouldn't talk about it in your car, ha ha ha ha.....!!!

I didn't know that too! So, it means responsible usage of our mobile phones is a must!LOL! I wish that the service providers will respects each subscribers privacy, I beleive its vital. The mobile phone companies should give a lot of respect to the subscribers because without this people, they have no bussiness to take care of.. :) have a great day!

Nowadays, cell phones come with cable USB so that you can back up your files. Most of the time, cell phones are still used for its primary reason,to get in touch with people in times of emergency or something. Having the data stored on the "website of your provider" is not always the case. Not in our country anyway.

Hmmm. If this IS true, either it cannot be accessed (it's private and pw protected when you open an account) at all or only by you. I have never been able to access a listing of my text messages, to or from me with details. It is true that there's a record of all the placed and received calls and the durations and a record of sent and received messages but I do not think anything is retrievable.

That's a horrible thought, isn't it? I'll have to remember it next time I'm organising some crime! Hahaha! Seriously, my phone sits on my desk and is never used except for the occasional text message when I want to know which train my son's coming home on so I can pick him up. Big brother is always watching, eh?

We don't use text messaging on our phones. The only thing they would know about us is the phone numbers we have called. The first company we had sent us a breakdown of our calls. We don't get that with this one, but who needs that! And I've never heard of them having the images we save on our phone (pictures) being put on their website. I just don't believe that. They'd have to have a VERY large server and spend lots of money keeping all those online. But I don't worry about such things since I'm not into illegal activities.

They can't keep them forever. But, as I said, I'm not worrying. I have nothing to hide and am not into anything illegal. I don't text message or send images over the phone lines, either. We don't have text messaging on our plan, either. I'll keep my phone. Couldn't do without it on the road. Too many things happening in this world not to have a cell phone when a woman is out on the road by herself.
