I want to see you naked - please put on your clothes

@p1kef1sh (45681)

I read an article that suggested that we reveal more about ourselves clothed than naked. Right now my naked body would tell you that it's cold - I'd be all goose bumps, whereas my clothed body says that I'm trying to keep warm. Pullovers, thick trousers etc. But beyond being a human thermometer, apparently the fact that I don't wear jeans and do tend to wear "conformist" clothing tells psychologists that I like to blend in and not stand out in the crowd. What do your clothes say about you and does your "message" change depending on what you are wearing?

I think humans have always created their personae by their clothing, despite the postmodernists' claims that this is a new development. Ever sine I became involved first with the pagan scene (1990) and then with the 'kinky' scene (1999) I have worn basic black, and add that to my lowering brows and tank-like body it gives a very distinct message. Some people cross themselves and the street when they see me coming. I just want to appear mysterious and powerful lol, something isn't quite happening. As a sidebar: in the aftermath of a harrowing love affair, I came up with the thought that the way I was presenting was attracting the 'wrong' sort of woman, so I cut off my almost waist length hair (actually, a number 2 clipper, I looked like an escapee from a high security cell). I was right: I began attracting a completely different sort of woman, and after six months of this, I desperately wished my hair would grow back faster. Cute tattoos of roses on the butt are one thing; tribal, necrophiliac, or prison tattoos over half the body are quite something else. Now I still dress in basic black, and attract the earlier model of woman (when I attract a woman at all these days), but wear 'ordinary' clothes to go to the supermarket so I don't frighten the checkout chicks. Or else I wear grubby shorts and disintegrating t-shirts because, as Lovelock (Gaia Hypothesis) put it, I am at an age where I can be as eccentric as I damn well please since I no longer have to impress anyone but myself. We seem to be conditioned to see black, when worn a certain way as threatening and vaguely mysterious. Conversely, women are advised by other women to have a "little black dress" in their wardrobes as the perfect go anywhere piece. Mostly though I guess that what we wear, and the way that we wear it, is a subconscious comment by ourselves about the way that we want to be perceived. As you say, some of us have reached the stage where we can dress as we like. I'm tickled that you wear "ordinary" clothes to the supermarket. Maybe one of those ladies on the checkout might like a little frightening before submitting!

If you're secure enough, you can be as eccentric as you damn well please at any age because it's more important to impress yourself than it is to impress others anyway.

Actually, I think it is the fact that I have always felt that way which is the secret to my conspicuous lack of success (by normal standards) in this world. Lash

Hi p1ke...clothes and the colour of clothes say a lot about you and with each colour you wear also changes the moods and behaviour as well . I love wearing jeans as they make me feel more comfortable and warm tops at the moment prefably black.guess that means I am a neutral person and like to mix with everyone..you can dress jeans up or down and still look classy and conformist, the colour I would wear ontop would wear ontop of the jeans is a neutral colour and goes with everything so guess a pyschologist would say I like to conform with everyone, but when I go out I also like to look smart which also means I like to be accepted by others too..also from a womans point of view wearing trousers also means you are closing things off from people too even though you wear them cos you feel comfortable wearing them...littleowl x

thanks p1ke I wanted to look smart for you and also as I was coming out to see you too! Yes wearing a skirt/dress means you are comfortable about opening up more to others but can also mean that you set yourself apart from others but obviously comfortable with yourself too..not saying that wearing trousers doesn't mean that too..it is also an expression of showing yourself to others too, and being apart from others in a way...look at how young teens are like and their action etc when wearing a skirt, at adults and how aloof sometimes they can be, rather than the person wearing trousers is more casual and friendly comfortable within theirselves xx

I do know what you mean. I have also noticed that young women (late teens) especially like to fold their arms when they are walking about. I have often thought this was a "keep away" gesture. Young men tend to stare moodily for the same effect. Body language can be quite fascinating.

That's interesting psychology. Does that mean wearing a skirt or dress means that you are opening up? Same with shorts? However, I thought that you looked very smart when I saw you last month. Comfortable with yourself and that's very important. XX

Well, I'll tell you what I'm wearing right now and you can judge for yourself! :) I am currently wearing a pink jumper, under the pink jumper is a t-shirt which says on it, 'I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on', I am wearing black capri trousers (the ones that stop just below the knee) and a pair of luminous green socks with blue slippers on too. I won't be going out dressed like that but I might do if I felt like it. For college I usually wear black jeans, white trainers and some t-shirt or other, the t-shirts usually say something or a a specific colour, such as blue. I don't care what other people think about the clothes I wear, what they think is really not my problem. ;)

Hi p1key, I must say you look quite good the way you dressed last I saw you, but I like to lose my self in a crowd with my jeans and black top so no one would notice me, but somehow I do because of my height. Hugs. Tamara

i think my naked body would reveal that i eat too many biscuits and seriously need a trip to the gym or ten!! hehe I think my clothes do say a lot about me, i tend to wear quite a few things that are a bit unusual, either that i have made myself or i simply haven't bought from a high street store or label, so i'm not likely too see someone else wearing the same thing - i suppose psychologists would have something to say about that! Right now though, my clothes are simply saying that i had too much to drink last night and couldn't be bothered to make any effort whatsoever this morning! hehe xxx

Well, let's just say that if any psychologists see the way that I dress, they would think that I am very comfortable in my skin or a bag lady. ha ha I usually wear shorts in the summer and jeans in the winter. At wear a nice simple blouse at work, if not at work then a tee-shirt. My problem is: I don't like tight clothes. I like loose clothes. I just feel closed in when I wear clothes that are to tight. So, a little baggy I go! And, I can't match clothes so, I try to keep it simple.

Really? I thought wearing jeans was conforming. I have not worn them in years. I wear skirts because I like them. In winter I get too cold so I wear track pants and fleecy boots but it is a very short winter in Australia's north. If I was living on the coast I could probably get through winter quite easily but up in the mountains it still get chilly for about 2 months. I used to love wearing long flowing skirts but our climate is too hot for that so in summer I just wear t shirts and sarongs, in fact as little and as light as possible around the house. Going out I just wear tops and cotton skirts.

I think that jeans is conforming in many places. I think that the jury is still out on jeans as smart wear here though. If I were female I would probably wear skirts or dresses too. I think that worn properly they look smart even when dressed casually. However, I am not a woman so I have to leave it to trousers or shorts in what we laughingly call our summer!

Oh dear I forgot to add that I suppose my clothes speak about my persona a bit but not as much as it might if I had the money to wear whatever I wanted to and then there is the problem that most shops only stock current fashion so if you do not like it you have a problem finding clothes that say what you want. I suppose my clothes say that I dress for comfort while maintaining my femininity.

Hi P1kefish, I have goosebumps too as it is pretty cold here right now. My clothes though would say that I am a very practical person who at times can be a bit extrovert but most of the time tends to blend in with the crowd. I tend to wear classic non-dating styles rather than fashion so in a sense I would be a non-conformist as I don't follow the lastest trend but have my own unique style. LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

My clothing at work says I'm conservative and comforting, very capable and efficient. At home, though, it says the hell with conformity! I like to be comfortable and I also love bright colors. I'll mix plaids with stripes, checks with polka dots. I go shopping that way, too. At night I wear a pair of my son's pajama pants that he left here and an old raggedy shirt--that says comfort and family.

I used to wear long sleeves and slack pants as I went to work, and at my house I used to wear shorts and cotton shirts hich ofcurse is good during hot weather. But this coming December season, were rains will difinitely pour out most of the day, people here used to wear jackets and jeans and some cap, to lessen the coldness specially in the night. During that time electric was less consume and the bills are decreased. Means, no need to used airconditioning units.

when i'm in my work suits i look smart and sophisticated. when i'm out limeing with friend i wear tight jeans and fitted top, were as with this type of clothing i sometimes send the wrong message to men. they think that i might be wanting them to entertain me, when i'm simply just there to have a good time and not meet anyone. I'm not one who like to blend in with the crowd so much, i like to stand out from the rest with out looking flashy. but i must say that what i wear sends out different messages and the message does change according to what i wear. sometimes the message is received incorrectly. but i do believe that there is a time and place for every form of clothing, i most certainly won't go to the office in my "birthday suit".

You've introduced me to a new word. "Limeing" - nothing to do with limes I'm sure. LOL. I think that the thing is to feel comfortable with yourself. We do send out different messages I am sure depending on how we dress.

Hey pikey! What! You don't wear jeans! And that helps you blend into a crowd? Ok, I'm confused? What do you wear then that helps you blend into a crowd? I would think that by wearing jeans that surely would help one blend in nicely. Well for me I wear what the hell I feel like wearing. I do like making a fashion statement at times. I still like to look somewhat "in style"! I think sometimes I forget my age. Not that I'm trying to look younger, by no means nothing would help that! I just still like some thinks that are not for old fart grandmas. Like yesterday I bought a pair of boots. They could be worn by someone much younger than I, but I like them and I bought them! They are quite nice and quite hot looking. The are really cool dressy looking snow boots! They are London Fog and are warm and water proof and I only paid $29.99! Damn am I good or what! A bargain shopper! Oh, and they are white! I was with boyfriend and he liked them too! The message~I can still buy really cool things even though I am an old Grandma type who does wear jeans or sweat pants and ski jacket or cool suede jackets or a London Fog jacket! I just like to look stylish!

Jeans are very popular over here Opal, but we don't regard them as smart wear, you can still find clubs and pubs that say "No Jeans" on the door. I haven't worn them for at least 15 years. I wear chinos and corduroy trousers. You sound very stylish and less of the grandma!

I wonder... Well, I can wear completely different things from day to day although I almost always wear jeans and t-shirts. Styles may vary but the basics are the same. I don't know what that means psychologically but, for me, it means I don't want to wear "good" clothes for everyday stuff and I am comfortable wearing jeans and t-shirts. If, however, I am dressed up for going somewhere then it depends where I'm going. I think people would just get confused if they saw my clothes in 3 different situations.

I wear jeans because I find them comfortable. I have to admit I don't wear "conformist" clothes because I want to conform, I wear comfort clothes because I want to be comfortable. I do dress up on special occasions because I want to show respect for the people I'm with's opinion more then because I want to look nice...

i guess my clothes would tell them that I am a plain, person, don't like flashy things that bring attention to me. That I am not into the latest styles, that I am comfortable in what I am wearing although I may not be in the lates style. I at the age of 61 have decided it is better to be comfortable than to impress the world around me.

If you see my clothes, I wonder if you will like me, especially if you are the type of man that thinks that a woman HAS to look good and be well dressed always. My clothes might tell you that while I take care of my health, I don't really bother with looks. For me, comfort comes first. And then, my clothes, which are worn out and old now, might tell you that I hate shopping. Cheers and happy mylotting

I think that as a man I look at these things two ways. I certainly do appreciate it when a woman dresses smartly for me. I also feel that we should all be allowed to dress as we feel that we want to. There are some places and occasions when we might well dress differently to demonstrate conformity - generally though, we wear what we feel right in.

I dress as I please, and am comfotable in both the jeans, as well as evening wear. I can just melt into any clothes and feel comfortable, so long as they are my size and shape. Id hate wearing clothes which are too lose or too tight. The fun of clothing is being comfortable in whatever you wear and yet look smart.
