It Smells Heavenly...NOT...

The other day I was at my brothers and he rested his chin on my head while I was working on his pc…then he says “Your hair doesn’t smell good”. I’m like thanks a lot. He says “You should wash it more”. I’m like I wash it EVERY day. He says “Well, it smells like skin”. Well, duh, what do you think is under the hair???
So, I use Sauve shampoo and conditioner. I have to be very careful what I use b/c I have allergies to a lot of stuff but the shampoo and conditioner are scented. There’s strawberry, orange and lavender. I use a different one each month. My hair is short so I don’t go around sniffing it but I’d still like it to smell good.
What do you think would make it smell good? Any ideas what I should use?

Over time we can get a buildup of sebum on our scalps, the waxy/oily substance our skin produces to protect the skin. Especially around the hair base of the hair shaft. That can hold a variety of bacteria which can make the scalp smell bad.
Most dandruff shampoos contain an exfoliator which helps to shed excess skin buildup on the scalp which is the main result of dandruff or dry scalp flaking. It would also help release the sebum buildup as the skin underneath sheds.
A clarifying shampoo, I believe Suave sells one, would also help. It helps cut any sebum buildup on your scalp as well.

if you wash it every day can't imagine why it wouldn't smell good. where do u work? i had a customer that worked in food services that hair always smelled like food when she came in to get it done. your hair will pick up scents from things.

I love Suave brands they make our hair so clean, soft and shiny. We have the Orange scented right now. We switch off and on with Avon I wash my hair then condition but leave the conditioner on for the duration that I am showering and washing up then rinse it out. I can usually smell my hair all day maybe it is because I leave the conditioner in so long is why. I figure the smell is oils and sweat from the hairs follicles and that is why it doesn't smell as nice. Pantene has some strong smelling ones so does Avon.

I like the smell of skin, and hair. And you don't even have to use any of those fancy perfumed or fruit salad kinds. Just plain ole stuff does it for me.
Maybe he was just being a typical brother ... how often does he say these kinds of things?
... or maybe you ate something previously that leached out the skin. I hear asparagus is notorious in doing that to some people.
Either way, he was your typical cad saying that to you. And heaven knows, also being a brother, I did my part in being a cad to my sisters a few times in my life.

Well, that was just his opinion. If one person tells me something, I don't necessary thing that is it. I might get another opinion or two. When you have allergies and you find something that works and you feel comfortable, that is the best thing stay with.

If you got something heavily fragranced it might give you some skin problems. Suave is good. I have heard that using the green apple suave will take away any unpleasant or sweaty odor. Other than that, I would say a drop or two of an essential oil, like lavender, brushed through your hair would leave it smelling better to him.

My husband has the bad head smell alot of times too. We use Suave shampoo and conditioner also. He used to not use the conditioner and that is what helps to keep the scent in your hair and scalp. He also puts mousse in his hair sometimes also and that makes it smell good also.

I have 2 brothers...they say things. I am willing to bet that your hair probably smells just fine and your brother was just being an annoying brother cuz that is what they do. Maybe have a close friend smell your hair and get a 2nd opinion.

Hi twoey! That sure wasn't a nice thing to say! Does anyone
smoke around you? I don't know why he said that? That is kind
of weird! If you wash it everyday and use scented shampoo then
it should smell something like the shampoo and conditioner. I
could see if it was summer and you were sweating alot then
maybe it would smell like sweat. But, I have no clue. There
are alot of non-allergenic shampoos on the market, but I really
don't know which ones would be alright for you to use. You
would have to either do an online search or ask someone in
a pharmacy like store like CVS if you have one and there is
a person who knows about makeup and hair products. We have
a girl in our store that is really up on knowing about those
products. If I see her the next time I'm in that store I will
ask her about the shampoos that are not overly expensive. I
just buy which ever ones are reasonably priced and on sale.

also allergic to many things and suave is one I can safely use and not come
out of the shower looking like a big "cootie"..LOL! Shame on him !!!
Brothers can be so mean...
so you set fire to his bed because he was throwing steak knives at you??
Lord have mercy! I thought my two brothers were MONSTERS!!!

I love any of the Herbal Essance shampoos and they all smell great! The shampoo and conditioner I am using now are my favorites though. They are brand name Aura and are a rosemary mint fragrance. I get them at a beauty supply store so even though they are professional products, I only pay about $5.00 each for them. You could also spritz a little perfume in your hair, or just tell your brother to shut up! Haha!

I don't understand that, i have short hair & i do not wash my hair daily but i do wash it 3 times a week..As an ex hair dresser It is not good to wash your hair everyday because your hair needs some natural oils..If your hair is clean it should not smell..If you have really oily hair i supposs a daily shampoo is ok...maybe youcould spray some perfume in your hair..I really don't know what could cause that..I wish i could help/\

I'm not sure what "it smells like skin" means. I also use Suave because it's cheap. But I have noticed that the more expensive shampoos seem to often have stronger smells...and they last longer.
When I was a teen, I used Herbal Essence. It was green at the bottom and clear liquid at the top and had to be shaken. Boy did that smell good.
Later, I discovered the most wonderful shampoo from Watkins (you know...the old company that sells spices?). Their vanilla shampoo and conditioner makes you think your hair is edible.

Wow! Your brother sounds like my husband! His sniffer is extra sensitive! One difference, though... he's never said anything on me doesn't smell good. Quite the opposite, he says he loves my smell! But, he's my husband, not my brother! LOL Siblings tend to be quite rude sometimes and don't sugar-coat the truth or what they perceive to be the truth.
I use Dove conditioner. I think the more expensive brand name conditioners have the strongest fragrances. I use Dove everything because I'm also very sensitive to a lot of things. Dove is one of the few brands that I CAN use. It also comes in many different scents so you can alternate or experiment to find one you really love.
The shampoo really doesn't make much difference because it's really the conditioner that you smell once your hair is dry. I use both Dove shampoo and conditioner because the shampoo lathers so much better than Suave. Yep, I used Suave for years! The price is definitely right! LOL
Try Dove conditioner or one of those 'leave-in' conditioners.
Good luck!
