Why can't protesters stop abusing those who don't agree with them"

So we all know that people are protesting in front of churches over the gay marriage ban in California. Frankly, I think it's a stupid place to protest since they aren't going to change the minds of people who vote with their church. They certainly aren't going to change the stance of the church on the issue. Now though, they've assaulted an elderly woman for walking by them with an oversized cross. They surrounded her, blocked her, and held signs in front of her face, blocking her vision after knocking the cross out of her hands and stomping on it repeatedly to keep her from being able to pick it back up. It seems that she probably won't press charges, but I think she should. People need to learn how to be civil when protesting and attacking an old woman like this is unacceptable regardless of your opinion on gay marriage or any other issue, this behavior is simply inappropriate. If you look at the morons responding on youtube most of them seem to agree with such behavior. Why is youtube filled with so many left wing extremists and hateful people?

You shouldn't call people morons for posting their honest opinions. What do you think people are going to be calling you after reading this? Have your opinion yes, but don't call people names and say that their opinion is wrong or meaninless just because it doesn't fit with yours, please and thank you.

When someone honestly thinks it's ok to attack an elderly old woman for carrying a cross, they are morons. I don't care if someone wants to insult me for saying that. Free speech gives me the right to call stupid people what they are. It's not about disagreeing with me. If you think gay marriage should be illegal and I think it should be legal, that's a reasonable disagreement and you're not a moron, you're a person who disagrees with me. If you think physically attacking an old woman for carrying a cross is appropriate, you're a moron. Rate me down if you like, but I'm not going to forgo my right to free speech because you don't think I'm being Politically Correct. The woman was swarmed and attacked by a bunch of angry jerks.

My point was, "angry jerks" suits them more perfectly than "moron" as sadly I bet none of those people lack any intelligence, just morals. I did not say that I disagree with your post, or was going to rate it negatively. In fact, I rated it positively because I appreciate your opinion and feel this post will spark great conversation. I wasn't trying to argue the other side, I do NOT agree with what was done to that woman.

First off, I object to prop. 8 as does my church so prop. 8 supporters don't have a monopoly over what God says about marriage. At least, not according to my book which I assume is the same book you use and we just interpret it differently. I don't agree with the proposition, but I would never hurt anyone especially an old lady over the issue. I'm going to an anti-prop. 8 rally on Saturday with various members of my church and we're all going to get busy writing to our congressman. I think this laws ridiculous but (as my mother says) there's a line and it was way back there. No one should be injuring anyone physically over political disagreements (or for most other reasons for that matter).

"which I assume is the same book you use and we just interpret it differently" I don't know why you would assume that we interpret it differently. I'm for gay marriage. Even if I were against it for religious reasons I'd still support it because I believe in the separation of church and state and don't feel that the bible should be used to amend the constitution.

Beats me. After all, since it's free, you'd think it stood an even chance of attracting Left AND Right thinkers. (Or is that Wrong & Right? chuckle!). Actually, I suspected it was the way it is, & have never gone there. Maybe I SHOULD? I agree, if _I_ were that lady, I'd have had them arrested for assault & destruction of property. WHY do good people have this mistaken notion that turning in CRIMINALS to the police is somehow not Christian? Sigh. People need to wake up. Maggiepie

I will respond to the question: "Why is youtube filled with so many left wing extremists and hateful people?" Because these people don't have friends in real life due to being such giant turd bags, that they have enough spare time to make YouTube videos promoting violence and dissention. I agree that gays should have the right to be married. I don't agree with violence to make a political point.

Well then we agree on both points. It's just odd to me that the majority on youtube behave, as you eloquently said, like giant turd bags. I think I get spoiled here on mylot where even the worst people are civil and reasonable compared to those morons.
