It's Been Awhile

....since I started a discussion. LIFEhas kept me way too busy and I haven't been on mylot as much as I use to be. Last Tuesday night on my way home from work I was in a car accident and was hit by the city bus. All I can recall is seeing the bus coming towards me and look up and saw that the light was red. I can't remember if the light was yellow and just turned red or if I totally ran a red light. The bus hit my back end, and I am currently without a vehicle. I am very thankful that I was not injured and didn't even wake up sore the next morning. I'm waiting for a call from the insurance adjustor, not sure if it will be considered totaled or not. I do have full coverage and only had another year to paying it off. The car is a 2002 Toyota Corolla. So I may be looking for another car as soon as I hear from the insurance adjustor. So to make this a discussion, what type of car would you recommend me to purchase? I would like to get another Toyota but would like your opionions on why I should or should not get another Toyota as well.

I don't know about Toyotas. My cousin has a 1995 Honda that has been a good car for him.

Hi terri0824, so sorry to hear about your car crash but glad that you're OK. As regards buying another car, I think you should just go with what you're happy with. If you were happy with your Toyota then go for another one, plus you can rest assured that they are robust well-built cars and you know that you can be hit by a heavy vehicle and come out of it unscathed, which I think it is a hugely important consideration. My personal favourites are Honda and Mercedes, both of which are enjoyable to drive and are well-built. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for your response. Honda would be my second choice. Mercedes are nice cars but out of my reach price range wise.

Aw man! I'm glad you're unhurt, I'm sure that was very scary! Toyotas are usually great cars, there's no reason not to go with one. I personally like Nissan. They're built like Toyota, but they don't cost quite as much.

Just try not to go Dodge - I had one of those once and it was nothing but trouble since the day I got it. What was funny is that 2 of my Aunts had the same car and one aunt had problems like me, the other aunt loved hers...

I do like Nissan's too, and that wouldn't be out of the question to look at them as well.

I'm so glad you are okay. I was looking through my friend list a couple days ago and checked your profile to see how long it had been since you have been on mylot. I can't imagine how scary that must have been. Being hit by a car is bad, but being hit by a bus sounds even worse.

Oh, and Toyotas do get good resale value, but Nissans get even better resale value. That may not help at all, but I thought I'd pass on what I learned from my dad, lol.

Yeah, I've never really left, just haven't been too active here at mylot. I'm just thankful that I was hit in the side tail end and not T-boned or it could have been a lot worse than it was. I'm going to look at Nissans on line and see what I can find.

Well, Sorry to hear about your accident, but Glad you are OK. God and his angels were definately watching over you for sure. As for a different Car, maybe you have decided by now, and things are going better for you. If you have not, you might consder a Small compact car like a Toyota, or maybe something like a Honda or something. Just make sure it is light, compact and good on gas, and has a good rating.

No, I haven't found anything just yet. I need to have a few days off work, just to focus on looking for a car. I will be looking this Wednesday thru Sunday since I'm off work those days. Hope to have another car by then. I'm looking at used Toyota, Nissa and Honda's.

Gos must have had his angles looking out for you. The bus could have hit your car on the back side instead of in the middle. I really don't know much about the cars that are out there these days. I had a phoenix Pontiac for over 10 years and didn't have any trouble with it. I don't know what Pontiac makes these days. If I were buying a car I would go to the consumers guide to see how well a car has been rated. we got a good mercury village years ago that way. It turned out to be a goos car.

Hi Terri. I'm glad you weren't hurt !!! As for a replacement auto, I doubt that you can go wrong with a Toyota !!! The first one I owned was a 1967 Corolla, and, when I sold it, it had over 400,000 miles on it, and was still running strong. They have always been a SAFE, reliable and economical vehicle !!! All The Best To You and Yours, and I hope yoy have a truly splendid Christmas !!!

Bummer. Glad you're okay though and not injured. I also had a bad accident last week. I drive a 2005 Buick LeSabre. A big American made car. The damage was over $7000. It is being repaired as I sit here and wait patiently. I also was not hu8rt. I have full coverage with just a $500 deductible. So as it is being repaired I have a rental car. I've discussions about the accident and the rental etc. But the rental I have is a Toyota Yaris. I can not recommenrd a car other than in my personla experiences I say get a large car for safety reasons. But I can say don't buy a Toyota Yaris. They are way too small and cramped. For me they are anyhow. I hate this rental but it gets me around till my Buick is repaired. Good luck as well. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Grandpa Bob glad that you are okay. Sorry I haven't came across your discussions that you started about this. I've not came across them yet. I'm really behind. I only have a $250 deductible, but I didn't have rental car insurance. I have read the reviews on the Toyota Yaris and they don't rate too high. I guess I will have to catch rides with others for awhile. Take care!

Wow. I am so glad that you are okay. I was wandering what had happened to you. I own a Mustang Gt. I do not know exactly what types of cars you like or need. I heard that you can get a great deal on a Kia. Get a Toyota if that is what you really want though.

Toyotas are really good cars, no reason why you shouldn't get another one. But thank goodness that you weren't injured!
