I have been tryign to build up some reserves so that even if i do not get my salary onteh 1st of the month I can still manage my affairs without resortign to using my credit card. I hate to build up a debt and try to stay within my means. If i do not get my salary I try to postpone my expenses as much as i can, but there are certain expenses which have to be met. Bills cn not be postponed. food has to be purchased. My reserves are slwoly dwindling as cost of living is slowly rising and thigns are getting costlier. it is increasingly becoming difficult. how do you manage?

The first time I receive my salary, is one salary for half month, because I worked for only half month before that. But even half month salary was enough for me to survive quite well. Most of my classmates envy that a lot, haha... I am lucky that my company never fail to pay our salaires. but if I was not paid for a month, I think it would be tough for me, and may have to resort to my relatives or friends. My salary is not bad, but I have no save every month... I am thinking a way to change my life style..

I have a checking account set up so 20 % of my income goes into it, it has started to get somewhat large, but what happens is everytime a check comes I put 20 % no matter what into it so that way I know I will never get behind, holding off bills and stuff of that sort can lead to a bad credit check, so always be prepared.

oh my, i don't know how I'm gonna survive if I don't get my salary.. somehow I just do.. just like you, I try to postpone paying for stuff unless I necessarily have to Plus I try to save up on the usual expenses... like, the grocery store is a bit near our place, so instead of taking the ride to go there, I just walk. If I save up some cents, it piles up in the end as a bigger amount. I also try to buy the less expensive food... like another brand of coffee which is a bit cheaper than the brand we are used to.. stuf like that.... You are so right, expenses somehow gets piled up no matter how you try to be thrifty, sometimes you feel that nothing is enough to get you by.. but well, somehow, someway we all manage to get through.. just hang in there ^_^

Sometimes when I don't have money because I have more expenses for that month, I will use my credit card. I think it is best if we will learn to save for emergency expenses. That is why I am trying to look for additional source of income so I can pay some of my expenses especially the bills. Making money on the internet is an additional income. Even if 20 dollars for a month is already a big help for me here in the Philippines. With your question if I can survive if I don't get my first salary, I can survive, by borrowing from my family or using a credit card and pay later.

I think I still survive because I always deposit my money each month. I can use my saving to survive for one year. I can use my saving to buy foods and pay my monthly payment. I can use my saving to stay connected with internet to browse new job and to fill my posting or response at MyLot.

I don't know how long you have been working...but in light of todayy's uncertain economic conditions, if you possibly can, I think you should try to have a "nest egg!" Learning frugality is going to be the key to survival in the future! I am a "no frills" person, so I guess it is easier for me; I will not buy a Starbucks Coffee for $4.97, when that will buy me a pound of coffee to enjoy at home! I just put something; $146.00 on my credit card, which is the first thing since last Christmas (that was only because of my locality, & that I could shop on line), but will pay it off at the end of December! Somehow I think that it will be easier for us that live rurally to get thru these times....but prepare for the worst...& may the best prevail.

hi mercury i am lucky because my husbands salary normally comes out on the dot ... on 24 of the month ... normally we will use his money to pay up all our debts/ loans and then try to use mine later .. since there is only 2 of us me and my husband ... our expenses is very limited, furthermore my job entitles me a meal a day at the office ... so my major expenses for food will be dinner and my husbands whole day meal ... we do not have much savings ... cheers

avoid using your credit card if you have no means to pay up in under a month. you need to plan your cash inflow properly. the worse for one is not having a steady cash inflow and that can really mess up your planning. I understand that for credit card, if you use it and pay within certain days, there is no interest charged. U need to check with your bank on this and this can give you some flexibility as a bridging loan. if not, the best is to accumulate a reserve but if u have not been doing so, it may be diff to start now cos of higher standard of living. The most important thing is to work out your sums and not overspend so at least your savings is secured and dun decrease

Yes, I can still survive even if I cannot get my salary on the first of the month. I maintained a saving account for 7 months now to augment my expenses. As much as possible I keep my budget based on my income so as not to go overboard. I don't like creating huge debt too so I avoided applying for a single credit card. All my 3 cards are debit so I am a little bit safe. Every purchase I made is based on my budget and my listing, if I don't have enough money for a particular stuff I won't force myself to buy that, I will have to wait for the next month to be included that to my budget. I maintained a budget list for my daily expenses and I always stick to what I have written so as not to distract my budgeting style. I am very strict with my budget right now because it is so difficult to find money especially when you are sick or something, it is still best to save for the rainy days, so to speak.
