The payment was sent to the wrong account!

OK, I'm not taking the blame for this idiot move, but my husband seems to think this is my fault.
So, we have more than one credit card and we even have more than one with certain banks. We just transfered a balance from one card to another to take advantage of a 0% interest rate. Well, when my husband made the payment in our bank bill-pay system, he scheduled the payment to go to the wrong credit card account. When I got the statement today and it said we didn't make the payment I about freaked out. We have never missed a payment, especially on a 0% deal where they'll jack your rate up to like 22% for being 3 seconds late on the payment. First, I went to our QuickBooks file and made sure that we made the payment. As soon as I noticed that there were 2 credit card accounts with this bank I knew what happened. I checked my on-line bill-pay transactions and sure enough, the wrong credit card got paid. My husand said it wasn't his fault because he didn't know it was a different account - even though the bill-pay memo field has the account number on it and you can tell that the numbers are different... So, I called the credit card company and told them what an idiot move we made and they fixed it right away for us. They were able to transfer the payment from the one card to the other and back-date it so that we are still within our terms of the 0% deal. They were VERY nice on the phone and of course I acted like I was just the total idiot for doing something so stupid...
I guess this might happen to other people that use bill-pay online also??? Or is it just us?

Well, to be honest, the main thing here is having so many accounts. That in itself is idiosy personified and you are just pushing fate. Bill pay or not someone has to authorize it, right? I would cut down on some of the accounts and cards. You will be glad you did.

Beleive me, we are cutting down on the accounts. But when we have a $6,000 unexpected repair that we can't put off, we've got to use the card that has the best rate - 0% - and it's not usually one of our two main cards we use.
If my husband is going to insist on taking care of paying the bills he needs to pay attention to what he's doing. He knows the situation and why we have to do it this way right now, so I say take the little bit of effort and watch what you're doing. He's done this before once with our cell phone bills, but since then he normally pays attention to what he's doing.

They were awesome and I told the girl on the phone that. I mean, it was totally our fault, but they could see the mistake and said as long as we don't make a habit of it then we'll be ok. Believe me, this WONT happen again!

Good thing you caught that. Didn't you catch something else one time that he had been paying on and didn't have to or something like that and you finally got the money back? I pay mine online but I go to the card account as soon as I get the bill in the mail and pay it right then and there.

Something similar happened to me, but not online banking.
My husband has a credit and a separate debit card from a certain bank. Now his debit card had no money on it. Instead of him paying attention to what he was doing, he used his debit card instead of his credit card four times, and was charged an overdraft fee four times. I kept yelling at him to stop using the card because he did not have any money on it. He says, well, if I don't have money on it why are they letting me continue to use it. Of course they will let him continue to use it, because each time he does he is charged an overdraft fee. We were able to get one of them taken off, but it still is a pain, because we could not afford that money.

Oh wow! That is strange that they kept letting it go through like that.
I've had that (kinda) happen to me before too. I was out to dinner and when I went to pay, I meant to put it on my credit card but gave them my debit card by mistake. I was so embarrassed when they came back and said it was declined. I'm glad it didn't go through though like it did for your husband because those overdraft fees are outrageous!
