When 69 degrees is warm and then cold

Have you ever notice that during the day 69 degrees can feel comfortable but as soon as the sun goes down that same 69 degrees will feel cold? Here in the house I keep the thermostats set at 70 degrees during the day but it doesn't turn on the heat until it get down to 68 degrees. I am quit comfortable during the day at the 69 or 68 degrees but as soon as the sun goes down it starts feeling cold. Do you find the same thing?

Yep, Different times of the year and day, the same temp feels different. After a long winter when it gets in the 50's outside its feels almost like summer. Then in the summer if it gets to be in the 50's its chilly or cool. I went out side in a t-shirt the other day, it was in the 40's, sunshine. It didn't feel too bad. I was only out for a minute. Then when it got dark that same temp felt lots colder.

I think that as the temperature drops outside, your furnace is having a harder time keeping the temperature actually AT 69 degrees.

The furnace works fine. It just has to get down a couple of degrees for it to kick in. We had it checked this fall.

I'm the same way. When sunset hits the chill in the air and house make it seem almost intolorable. I set my thermostat at 71, because our house isn't the easiest to keep warm and the older I get the colder it seems. Sure wish we could move somewhere where it is nice, sunny, and warm all the time.

I do set The thermastate up to 72 in the middle of the evening to just warm it up a bit during the evening But when we go to bed I set it back to 70. I too feel the cold more as I get older.

Well I find that I can tolerate a colder temperature in the morning, but as the day goes along the same temperature can appear colder to me.

For me I like to have it warmer early when I first get up and then I seem to be able to tolerate the cooler temps as the day goes along until evening. Then I want it warm again. Thanks for stopping by terri

I know where you coming from because it was like that with us before, but not any more since we moved to another location. Maybe it's more humid in the daytime with the sunshine and all, and when the sunset the humidity drops, but the temperature stays the same. I heard something like this before on the weather channel. I don't know if that's the case where you are, but who knows?..The weather guy I guess.

How do you like Florida? Does it ever get very cold down there? You probably right about the humidity. I hadn't thought about that. It is usually pretty humid here. Thanks for the information miraclefreebies.

It's funny isn't it. In the summer i set my air on 78 and i'm still hot. In the winter time i set the thermostat to 72 if it gets any colder the heat comes on. But i'm actually cold at 72 which in the summer time i like my air on 72 but it's to expensive.

I think it depends on your country. My country is too humid. So the same temperature somewhere else you would feel more cold here. My island is surrounded with sea and water. So humidity is great. It might be 14 C but you might feel it like it was 11C. © ronaldinu 2008

Maybe I'll have to move to your Island to be warm in the winter. You make it sound like a nice place to live in some of your discussions

BRRRRRR..do you ever have that right! It's got to be physocological! A mental state! I do not use my furnace..just my fireplace with an insert! The house is big and I only need to heat the areas that I am in most of the time! So far, I have managed without using it..but the temp is going down to zero tonite, so on will go the fire soon! Are you not more active during the day, when the temp is 68/69 tho? Busy being a bee! I tend to slow down a whole lot more at sundown, so I think that is why I feel the temp. more! It's been rather mild here/B.C./Gulf Islands. How' your weather been!

Well your probably right about being less active in the evening. I live in the south east We don't have a fire place but wish we did. It would be nice to have to take the chill off in the morning. We haven't gotten down to zero yest probably won't but it has gotten below freezing already this fall.

I have noticed that. Driving home last night the radio said it was 70 degrees out and I was FREEZING. But the other day when it was 70 and sunny all day long it was nice and beautifful day out. Hmm.
