Neon Pink Stop Signs

So I was driving on the highway coming back from an appointment when something occurred to me. We need neon pink stop signs. White on red is so last century. Think how many people would stop just to make sure they were really seeing a neon pink stop sign. It would take a while to get tired of it! And have you ever tried actually talking with your tongue in your cheek? People say things tongue in cheek, but I have tried it and find it quite impossible. Now, how many of you just gave it a try yourself? And for anyone reading this from a country where English is NOT your first language, I am sorry, this probably doesn't make sense. But hey, I'm an American. We hardly ever make sense.

wow, Ambie, you are funny, having a goofy day or something??? I was going to try the tongue in cheek until I read what you wrote about people trying it, now if I do, it will be off line.. I think neon pink would be an interesting difference, but I wonder if it would really cause people to stop more often??

I think the cold air has altered my mind. Now if we added pink flamingos to the stop sign, that would stop them for sure!

Okay Ambie, I just tried the tongue in cheek and I can talk, just sounds like I have a mouthful and can't talk well.. So, have you tried it??? It would be easier than trying to get the city to put pink flamingos on a neon pink stop sign..lol

Today is the day I impart some almost totally useless information and give my sumation of the possible reactions if the colou of the stop signs are changed. The decision to change the colour of the Stop sign should not be taken lightly as it as been RED for over 50 years now. In fact, the very first red stop sign was actually designed and used in the U.S. So it seems only fair to me that if the colour is to be changed then the decision should be made by someone from the U.S., rather than a foreign country. If you give the matter serious consideration you will realise the consequences of someone other than a U.S. citizen changing the colour of the stop signs. If in fact the colour were changed by a non-U.S. citizen it is always possible that the good citizens of the U.S. could consider someone was "Yank bashing" or "anti-American" or whatever. That could lead to all sorts of international incidents which really are not worth thinking about right now. On the other hand, if a U.S. citizen was to change the colour, some of the good citizens of the U.S. might think this was some sort of plot to cause civil unrest, confuse the citizens or it is unpatriotic or it is TREASON. The thoughts that some people could come up with are endless and so everyone must give serious thought before making a final decision. Oh and I am an Australian. That means I am very well versed in talking with my tongue very firmly in cheek. lol Please do keep me updated on any progress on the suggested colour change in the red stop signs.

Well about pink signs we have a lot here in the Philippines and it has become so annoying. Road signs should follow a standard color depending on its use e.g Green for directions, yellow for warning etc. but pink here is out of the question since it should be used only during times of crisis or something like that.

I tried it too! lol - I could do it, but I sounded pretty crazy! I think a neon stop sign would work quite well. I'm tired of the same ol' same ol'. I like your ideas!

Hi AmbiePam, Firstly something said 'with your tongue in you cheek' means that what the person is saying should not be taken literally or for true. In other words - they are kidding. Sometimes they are kidding without smiling or laughing. It's a very Brit thing. Pink Neon Stop signs! wow, what a sight that would be. It would have to be a hot pink though. I guess people notice red more or something. Interesting discussion my friend.

Don't be! Normally I would have to have things explained to me, step by step. I'm rather slow.

No , it is me that was stupid - not you. I just take people so literally at times - it is because I used to teach so I automatically go into my explaining something mode. Duh! I need to go to sleep or something and wake up in this century. Apologies my friend. Be as goofy as you like. This is a space where we can express what we want top express. (Oh, I am so embarrassed!)

Lol. I think the neon pink stop signs is a fabulous idea. The red and white is getting tied. You could have one made up and approach the municipality with it. Wouldn't that be something if they rolled with your idea? I have tried to talk with tongue in cheek too. Sounds rather funny and no one seems to understand what I am saying .. Imagine that!

when it comes to nationality, nothing is right for my hubby aside from British I've never tried to speak with tongue in cheek, but he said french people speak through their nose but that one is impossible for me to try since I have dust allergy :) I would've sneezed out all the words (is that even a sentence?) It would be nice to see colorful traffic sign :) or even Danger signs

Hey, Ambie Pam, some-one spike your pablum? You're on a roll today, aren't you? Got a little Christmas spirit in your glass....Now that's tongue in cheek. Do the "pink elephants" come next? Sorry, my dear...just couldn't take this one serious.....and you are right..RED means stop, would pink mean a half-a___d stop? Which most North Americans do anyway....then they would be legal? Cheers!

Neon pink stop sign, no way, we can't get people to stop for the red one, they wouldn't bother with the pink ones either.. Now on to your next thought, I tried, I am the only one up at my house and I am sitting at my computer with my tongue in my cheek trying to talk, I did fairly well, if you understand strange languages.. I was almost understandable, but I am glad no on saw me, I am sure I looked crazy..

I couldn't agree more. The red-on-white isn't very visible. I've seen neon yellow caution signs that really stick out. So neon pink or fushia would be great!

Neon pink sounds nice but I'm kind of partial to pastel purple with silver glitter flakes myself. Sure! I can talk with my tongue in my cheek! Just sounds like I'm talking with my mouth full of sh_ _ is all!

Yeah I could get use to a pink stop sign forsure seeing that pink is my favorite color and all. White on red is definitly last century and I think we could use a change. Just imagining trying to talk with my tongue touching my cheek is difficult I don't think I could actually do it Have a great day

I love the leg warmer idea... why doesn't someone get on top of that. They should also change up the stop lights while they are at it.

That is a good idea, but I might suggest florescent orange like the road workers use. Actually it has been proven that the florescent green is more visible but that would be too much of a drastic change. Like it has been said, some people seem not to see the red ones so increasing the visiblilty is actually a good idea. I see the police in UK have all gone to the bright green vests for visibility.
