I was at Descanso Gardens in the Los Angeles area on Sunday. Roses are still blooming, camellias are blooming and it 's a lovely place to take pictures. I was with my friend Libby and I was trying to get a shot of an iris only the dang thing just wouldn't come out purple! So Libby says to me, "are you using the flower setting?" "Flower setting?" So she grabs the camera, moves the dial over to the little picture of the flowers and says, "somebody didn't read her manual." lol Anyway, here are the pictures I took that day (not a referral link): http://rddcn.multiply.com/photos/album/202/LA_Trip_Day_2 Look at the two little iris pictures in the third row. The first is the one I took on the regular setting and the second is the one Libby took on the flower setting. Hers looks a lot more purple than mine, doesn't it?

Mushroom - Lovely shot of a woild mushroom in Minnesota.
Some beautiful shots there. I use various settings when taking photos of flowers. You don't always have to use the "flower setting" as stated. Once you learn more about your camera settings ofg all sorts can be chhanged. I do a lot of photography and have learned to change the flas speed, shutter speed, light settings etc etc. Practivce, practice, practice. Nice work on the site also I love it. Here is a mushroom shot where I had changed the shutter speed as well as the lighting settings many times. I took maybe 15 shots till it looked just like I saw with my bare eyes actually. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Thanks! I just think it's funny there even is a flower setting. Why not a sky setting and a water setting and a people setting. lol Interesting that flowers are unique enough to need a separate one! Wow, great shot! My sister would hate it but then she has an unreasonable dislike of mushrooms!

The flower setting is usually a macro setting, good for close up shots. In the same way, the sports guy represents action photos.

Those are all beautiful photographs Dawn. I love the roses the best. The Irisis are lovely also and the fish. I never knew either about flower settings. I see the flower now now when I look at the camera. I am a bit stupid on it. I have been trying to figure out how to take pictures of my christmas light outside. They keep coming out dark. I will figure this out if it kills me though. Well done on those photographs. You are turning into a pro. That camera of yours is a good one also.

Thanks! A lot of cameras have night or low light settings. You might need a tripod to get a decent shot though.
