Now That Christmas Is Over.....

Do you still "celebrate" the Christmas season even after Christmas or are you happy it's over with? I have to admit...I'm like a little kid when it comes to the whole Christmas season...I look forward to it every year. I don't really "do" the frantic Christmas shopping thing to begin with so that is one stress I've eliminated....no I'm not a cheapskate...LOL. But my friends and I are usually are all in the same boat as far as finances, so often we just buy some silly thing as a gift...even if it's only a cute figurine from the dollar store. I can't believe though, that the very next day after Christmas I start seeing Christmas trees being junked out....like sheesh..if I could I would keep a tree up until the Fourth of July..it's like people are in a hurry to put Christmas behind them or something.....like what's the rush? I'm usually also so busy writing articles/reviews, that I don't have the time to sit down and watch the different Christmas shows on TV....not that I really can since I don't have cable so I miss a lot of programs (still have to connect that blasted converter on my TV as I use rabbit ears)...Also since my VCR died I can't watch any of the hundreds, and yes, I mean HUNDREDS of shows I taped over the years..I began taping Christmas shows way back in 1983 with my first VCR and all are in prime condition. I was trying last night to give my VCR one more try, but nope...in fact as soon as I put the tape in, it spit it out again. Maybe a good thing as maybe otherwise it would have gotten jammed in there. I just discovered a few websites that play nothing but Christmas movies...so might opt for that...even "It's A Wonderful Life" and start watching them..none seem to have any of the Christmas Carol's though...sniffle, sniffle (do have on VHS tapes though) Anyway, so the bottom line is, is that I often don't really "enjoy" the Christmas season until AFTER Christmas....okay, okay, I know...I'm weird. But how about you? Do you continue to "celebrate" the whole Christmas mood even still watch Christmas shows after Christmas like me?? ....or are you happy it's all over?

Well, my kids and I still celebrate Christmas after the Holiday. On Christmas Eve we go to my sisters. Then on Christmas Day they go their husbands/boyfriends house to celebrate. So, ours is later, sometime in January. It's hard when everyone has to go back to work again so we wait just a little longer. My tree stays up until then, although I couldn't afford a real live Christmas tree this year. In order for me to have my so called live tree (just can't break that tradition somehow), I decorated my Hibiscus bush that I have in the house, lol! And I also have a fake pine tree about 5' tall, so I decorated that too. Hey, you do what you got to do, right? I at least tried to stay in the Christmas spirit as much as possible. Take care pye!

Wow you have a hibiscus bush in the house? That's pretty big isn't it? LOL. While I do have a real tree in the living room, I have a small fake one in the bedroom I keep up all year long...to give that sense of Christmas to me all year long

Thanks Pye for BR! Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner but that darn virus was messing with my computer! The Hibiscus is about five years old and I keep it trimmed, so it's approximately 2' or so. I've been having trouble getting it to bloom though, but this new apartment I'm in has a nice bright sunny window. I'm hoping when summer comes I'll have better luck. Thanks again!

I do not consider Christmas a day but a season. We start Christmas the day after Thanksgiving and keep it going until mid-January, with celebrations and visits. We keep our decorations up for the same amount of time. It just keeps it festive and fun, but when I take down the decorations I am ready to put my house back in order for the next season.

Yes, it does!! LOL It is sort of sad but sort of nice, too, because it takes up a lot of room.

Because we have a bit of a scattered family, and in-laws to visit, we're celebrating until New Years. Yesterday we went to my in-laws for the day, I also stopped at my mom's for a few hours and a friends house for a bit too. Sunday we will go to my step-mother's and I'll probably go back to my moms on New Years Day. We didn't do a tree this year, but what decorations we have put up will come down either New Years Day or that weekend after.

At work, we'll have our Holiday Dinner in a couple weeks. We were way to busy to squeeze it in before the holidays.

My friend down the block isn't to have her "Christmas" party until sometime in January. She used to have it before Christmas but now figures it's better after Christmas since people aren't rushing around to get ready for the holiday..a lot more peaceful that way

I enjoy watching Christmas movies any time of the year. If I'm in the mood, I'll pop one in the vcr/dvd. I wanted so much to watch Smoky Mountain Christmas and Christmas Comes to Willow Creek but couldn't find either one. It put a slight damper on my Christmas but I survived. lol If I had tv, I could of watched them both being they are on every year this time, but I don't so was hoping to be able to rent them. We will still be celebrating today being we are going to my brother's house to have dinner there tonight after work and to exchange gifts.

LOL--I guess a really good time to watch Christmas type movies would be in July and August when we're all sweating our buns off....to watch snow scenes would give a sense of "coolness"--LOL

i'm happy that it's over in the sense of maybe the stores won't be so insane.. but i do like seeing lights up on houses and things.i've always been a sucker for lighted things,i just think they're pretty.so i don't mind the homes that leave theirs up longer, like the icicle lighted strings.

I like seeing all those lights too...It's a shame though, many of the people around here seem in a rush to take them down...I noticed the pretty light display my neighbors across the way had in their windows and they took them down the day after Christmas

My Decorations go down after the New Year I have to say to me Christmas is not the same now that I am an Adult and that my Children are Adults and it just does not seem the same anymore like it was years ago, I mean shops are open, hardly anyone decorates now and it is just not the Christmas any more I remember

I enjoy to continue to celebrate Christmas, the season and the Holidays even after Christmas day is over. I too use rabbit ears, lol. Right now and I do watch movies. Not so much this year as I have found a local radio station that plays ongoing Christmas music. I have been finding this rather appealing. I can still write articles as I listen to music. Much different than if I were watching t.v. I can't imagine junking the Christmas tree the day after Christmas. I would keep the trr up until the fourth of Juky also if it didn't dry out and all the needles fall off. I like it when Christmas gift giving is light on the pocket book in both giving and receiving. It is always the thought that counts. I love how yur friends and you celebrate. Cheers. I love the christmas season. As of November 1st, I am ready to start decorating. I usually like to get decorations down shortly after the New Year because I like to start the year with a clean slate, literally speaking, the house gets cleaned at the same time. Best to you in 2009!

I'm one of those kind of people that once Christmas is over with...it's over with! LOL! I still have my tree and lights up, but that's only cuz I'm too lazy today to take them down. I'm happy to have it all over and done with for now.

We celebrate xmas pye, and we will probably keep the tree up till new years day i suspect my mom will want it up till then. afterall she took a whole day to decorate it the way she wanted. Since i have two small kids i'd take it down today probably if we were living on our own. just cause the needles and the docorations and the having to keep such a watchful eye when everything else is babyproofed. lol the littlest oh if i take my eye off her for a second she tries to grab something off the tree! We watched some xmas specials that where on the cartoon channel. . Where do you put the hundreds of tapes? :P lol I hate tapes. . I like that i can just download videos and they dont take up clutter space in my house. All in all, i'm kinda glad its over, but i'm glad it happened, i got to spend some time with family i haven't seen in years cause i wasn't living in this province, and my brother stayed the night and had a few drinks with us. Fun ;)

I have kind of a large entertainment center that is crammed full with my tapes, DVDs and CDS...it's where I have my dinky TV, DVD and VCR players and stereo system I have my two kitties but they are really good about the tree...interpretation...they don't try to climb the tree or knock down ornaments...LOL...they do like sleeping under the tree though..like it's their private little forest or something

I have only just begun. hahaha My husband, son and I exchanged gifts Christmas Eve and we had our Christmas Dinner yesterday but we will have another one on Saturday after our daughter and grandson get here. Usually our daughter and her family come in on Christmas Day but due to her husband working out of state and he was only able to come home for a few days they stayed home. I am really anxious for them to come here and watch my grandson open his gifts. I will not take my tree down until after the new year. I like to leave my tree up and the lights on when I am up.

Its quite hard to celebrate the Christmas mood after the day itself. For one, you already spent your hardwork money on shopping, food, and other recreational activity inclined with this season. Although for me, its all worth it. This certain holiday helps us to feel more positive in all aspects around us. That's why everytime Christmas comes, there's this certain athmosphere of love, giving, hope, and appreciation. We should all remember that this season is the birth of our saviour "Lord Jesus Christ" the son of God. After the 25th, I treat it as a new day for me. Christmas is where we recharge ourselves from the good traits that we tend to forget in the course of a year. I make it a point that I'll bring the good stuff that I learned and felt every christmas into the New Year, and its also the time that we should double our efforts in working hard to regain the money that we spent on the most wonderful time of the year.

LOL---well there's no problem about spending a lot of money during the Christmas season for me as I don't get into that frenzy to buy things...since I make my own crafts I often make them as gifts for people. I still have the Christmas spirit however even though it's officially "over"

I love Christmas and in a way I am glad it is over but I am still enjoying the Christmas movies I have recorded on my Dish DVR! You should see how many I have recorded, lol. We didn't have a tree this year because we don't have the room yet in our trailer. Once we add on we will have more room. I hope you had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year! :)

Hey pye~I'm kinda sad that it's not Christmas anymore! Now I have to wait 365 more days for Christmas again! I am too upset now! I finally put up my 2 foot Christmas tree last night! I'm sure not ready to take it down yet! Yes, I have to admit I was a little slow on the draw this year, but I did get my little tree put up before Christmas! And I ended up having a much nicer Christmas then I thought! Actually, it turned out to be a very good Christmas after all and I want to continue to celebrate for as long as I can! But, unfortunately that's not the way things go so I will have to be content with just looking at my little tree with all the prezzies underneath it! At least this year there were prezzies! And that alone was a big surprise! Now I have to move on to the holiday that I truly hate...New Years! I don't even want to think about it! Let me get over Christmas first!

I actually keep all my Christmas stuff up (including the tree) until mid or even later in January...heck why not? The only thing I do take down around the first week or so of January are my outside door decorations..uh, so my neighbors don't think I'm weird...LOL. Since I didn't get a chance to do so before, I might start photographing my apartment the way it looks with all the decorations up...so have a good "excuse" to keep them up...OMG..can you believe another year is going to be upon us? Sheesh You're putting up the Christmas tree only last night (Christmas Eve) was actually always the more "traditional" day to put it up. At least that's what my mother used to tell me. My family when I was a kid never got the real tree until Christmas Eve then decorate it all night long..also getting trees on Christmas Eve was when they practically gave them away free!

Yeap! as long as the month of December is not over yet... means to me that CHristmas is not over yet too. Sometimes we have advance Christmas parties or sometimes post Christmas parties. I still do have to give CHristmas gifts even the Christmas season is over.... that happens when a friend or relative I havent see for ages finaly came to see me after I had bought CHristmas presents. I feel guilty of not giving him/her anything... so I will still do late christmas shopping for them. It crazy and weird. but,its how rules in my family. BUt to be fair with me though. There are times that I am happy that its over because I dont have to be forced to be giving more gifts to people to are expecting gifts from me....because if it is still Christmas time I feel oblige to give but if its over I'll juts told them wait till next year. hahahahaha.
