What's in a name

I was reading a book recently where three sisters are named after the months in which they were born. Instead of having a single day as their birthday, they could have "their" month. They didn't do chores, could read etc and stay up late. Now I rather like that idea, even if it is a little tough on February who gets at least two days less fun than other months usually! Just to expand the theme a little though, if you were to be named after a month. Which one would it be and why?

Well, if I was named after a month and could have the whole of that month off, I think I'd either like December because then I wouldn't have to do any work through Christmas and New Year or maybe June, because that's when my actual birthday is. My Mum says I should be called "Christmas" because apparently, waiting for me is like waiting for Christmas. :)

LOL at your Mum's description Dory. I think that December isn't a bad choice either. No Christmas shopping either unless you wanted to do it.

I would accept only: April, May and June.... I can not imagine to be named November, because it is the most depressing month for most people and as name doesn't sound good.

Hi P1kef1sh, Can't I be named after a season, eg. Summer then I could have a whole season off but if it has to be a month I guess I would go for my own birthday month of April and be named April and I know April is prone to showers but as a person called April I would shower love and affection towards everybody and bring he sunshine of summer forward as we do get some beautiful April days. Huggles and a very happy New Year to you. Ellie :D

I like the April for a month then June or May even though June means more to me then the others since it is the month I married and my little sisters birthday,my husbands birthday, my nieces and great niece and a sister in law has birthdays as well so it is a busy month for us. But I guess it is because April showers always brings may flowers and it is always starting to warm up a bit around then and also It is usally the month Easter is in.

Hi p1ke..I have known one lady who named her girls after crystals, Ruby Crystal and Amber..I thought they were all lovely names then I knew another lady who named her daughters after the day they were born on...Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday..it was strange she had them each day following another!! But as for months that is a new one to me...I was born in January but am not sure that is what I would like my name to be!! Maybe Earth or Eartha as January is the element of Earth...hugs littleowl

Better crystals and days of the week than football teams Littleowl. I think that you do have an elemental quality about you and that Earth would suit you. I'm rather fond of Littleowl actually! LOL.

My grandmother's name was May. You definitely don't look like her - she'd have been 119 this year! LOL. May is a name that heralds such warmth and opportunity. From Dawn to May sounds rather lovely.

Well I would be called August then as this is the month I was born in. If I were to choose a month where I would no chores, stay up late and such it would be August or December as I would be able to enjoy the light nights in the summer, enjoy the late sunshine (in England lol) but then in December I would be able to stay up late and get into the Christmas spirit and not have to think about any chores to do as it would be special month though I would do the Christmas shopping!! I would prefer to be August though!!
@p1kef1sh (45681)

Well, the January, February, July, August, September, October, November and December months wouldn't really sound good to me at least.. I could live with the March, April, May, or June.. When we were young and my mother was really ticked off at us, she would call us by our full name, Donna Lee, if I heard that I knew that I was in trouble.. Another neighborhood lady would call her kids the same way, especially if they were in trouble.. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the complete names of all of her children.. Now back to the subject at hand, I can't imagine being called March Lee or something akin to it, that would be weird.. I wouldn't mind being called something like April May, I took two of the names, forgive me for being selfish, but it sounds like two of the best months. I would have a wonderful month of springtime weather and I could really enjoy being able to be outdoors in this birthday month.. So, my answer is April May and my reason is that it would be a great time to have a month long b-day.. I do know that our weather here is somewhat iffy, but most times there is fairly decent weather during those months and after all, I would get to enjoy the entire month, not just one day.. Thanks for this great b-day gift, my real one is in December and I can't imagine being able to do everything that I wanted to do outdoors in December..
@p1kef1sh (45681)
2 Jan 09
You could be like our Queen Donna. She has her actual birthday and an official birthday. "April May" sounds a good southern name to me!

2 Jan 09
Why, thank you sir, it does sound like a good old "suthern" name, doesn't it.. I deem it an honor to be compared to the Queen, Queen Donna, then I can have two b-days.. Think of the gifts, and great gifts they would be, I am sure, I do love gifts... Have a great day, and I hope your New Year is going to go along beautifully..
1 Jan 09
Hi p1key, I was born in August but my name would be Augustine and oh what it would be like to have a whole month off and just do nothing, that would be lovely because I don't know what a day off is around here, same old daily routine and it would nice to be waited on for a whole month, but can't see that ever happening, even for a day, oh well. Hugs. Tamara xxx
@p1kef1sh (45681)
1 Jan 09
I'll come and be your slave for a day Tamara. LOL. But not a month! Augustine is a good name. There was a Roman emperor by that name. He was a pagan who converted to christianity, became a bishop and left a great library. He also fathered a son by woman that he was not married to.
@p1kef1sh (45681)
2 Jan 09
No you wouldn't because I would invite your best friend along too and wait on you both whilst you chatted away all day! XXX
1 Jan 09
Hi p1key, I didn't know he was a pagan but turned christin, now that was not good as I was a christain and turned pagan. I wouldn't mind you being my slave but I probably still do a lot as its a habit and serve you instead. Hugs. Tamara

September because that is when I was born, duh!*L* Actually, I rather like that for a name, it has a certain ring to it, something that is just.........ME! I hope you had a nice New Year's Eve, and that this new year brings you all the joy and success you deserve. Huggs, and Smoochies, little man.

I think I like the name April. I think it is a pretty name. May is a good one too for a woman. August could be used for Augusta. I would have to choose June though since I am a woman and was born in that month.

April, May and June seem to be the most popular names I've seen given to girls named after a month. Mine probably would have been June since I was born in June. I do like the idea of a birthday month. Perhaps a small gift each day, a cake on the actual day and a party on the actual day...the rest of the month you could just have special treatment. I'll have to remember that...I like the idea. By the way, what's the name of the book? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Hmmmmm ... I think I've been named after the century, seeing as my entire life is comprised of not doing chores, staying up as late as I like (usually around 9.30-ish and reading for lots of the time whilst simultaneously eating chocolate (in a carefree display of multitasking). September is a very nice month. I'm not named after it, but I like it a lot. It has a nice sound to it, and nice people were born in it. Maybe we should have some NEW months to choose from ... like P1keuary. Sounds a bit fishy, but I like it!

I am a guy and born in June and I don't think I would like to be called June. A lot of the other months are already girl's names too. If I had to name my children I might give them the month's names although I am think I like other names better than the month names. I certainly would not give them the month off to stay up late and not do chores.

I suppose I could have gone for Juno. My parents were not that inventive though. I am not particular about the name I did get like a lot of children I guess. I did not even get a middle name. I have always thought of adding a second name of my own choosing but I never seem to get around to it. I remember one skier in the olympics named Picabo Street and I thought she was asked what she wanted for a name http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picabo_Street but it turns out it was a town near where she lived pronounced Peek-A-Boo I do like the idea of getting a second name of your own choosing when you are more mature. That way the inside you and the named you will be the same. Many children get odd names that do not fit their personality.
