When you pack to travel be it on vacation, business to visit friends or family how do you pack?
Do you pack everything you can into one small suitcase? Do you pack as little as possible saying i need enough for a few days so and so has a washing machine i can wash my clothes? Do you take everything but the kitchen sink with you? or do you pack a huge suitcase but leave it half empty so there's space for purchases?
The reason i ask is...My sister comes to visit for 5 days and she packs a trunk load plus the back seat is full of stuff. We all went to grandmas to visit and my mom myself and my other tow sisters have all together a trunk of things. My mom had to take her home separatley from the rest of us yesterday because she had so much stuff no one else could fit their things in.

Hi, When I pack for an either over night stay or a week or more I at least pack 3 changes for a short stay and 7 changes for a longer stay like a week to 2 weeks. Usually if I am on vacation we find a place to do laundry so we do not run out of clean clothes. I always pack my cosmetic bag and keep it updated with any necessary band aids for cuts. I keep neosporin 2 go with me always.

I pack the minimum when I visit someone. My must haves are my clothes, my gadgets, and my toothbrush. I never pack a lot of things, like for example, a 3-day trip will make me pack just 1 bag, and a 7-10 day trip can be done with just 1 suitcase and 1 bag. I think it's very less.

I only pack a lof of underwear and socks, so if they get soaked or dirty I have ample ones to change. Otherwise I don't stuff my baggage with lots of clothes, just the necessary perosnal belongings. I always make sure to take a good book and a digital camera with me to take photos of places that I have visited.

I travel for a living so am a professional packer. I have two different suitcases, one for stays of 1 week (5 nights) and one for stays of shorter periods. I keep my toiletries packed all the time, essentially I have duplicates of everything in a separate bag with plastic holders to prevent accidents. My make-up is very pared down and minimal, I keep it all together all the time so when I travel I can simply throw it in my suitcase.
Here is what and how I pack for 5 days (this is my black and gray):
I plan my wardrobe for the week so essentially I am in the same color scheme. This allows me to keep shoes to a minimum. Shoes are a weakness for me, particularly high-heels which take up space and are hard to pack around. For 5 day trips I try to keep my heels to 3 pairs, pack two wear one. I tend to wear more pants than skirts or dresses which helps on space saving as well.
1 pair Black Slacks (wear 2X)
1 pair Dark Gray Slacks (wear 2X)
1 Black or Gray Skirt (wear 1X)
2 White shirts different styles
1 Pull over sweater (usually cashmere)
1 Shell with Sweater
2 Jackets (usually one lavender and one gray but this depends on what I feel like)
1 pair of sweats
1 pair of gym shoes
Underclothing for week, including gym socks, nylons, and knee highs
1 pair of light pajamas
My bag is a medium sized bag and all the above along with 3 novels fits without overstuffing. I am an expert a folding.
I also of course have a rolling computer bag in which I stuff an extra novel for the plane, my medications, my computer, my Ipod, and my headphones.

I pack only what I can put in one satchel. With the new materials it is very easy to just roll them up and slip them in. Alot will fit and unless you going for six months you should have room for several outfits, toiletries and all the other accutriments a person needs now days.

So much rolls so well and doesnt wrinkle. If it does its easy enough to steam while you shower or toss in the dryer. I was just so shocked when my mom told me my sister's stuff took up the whole trunk and half the back seat when she took her home the other day.

I usually take too much, but I am paring it down quite a bit. I think that sounds awful, and like a lot of work.

I bring just enough things. i don't like washing clothes during the trip, but if we're going to a cold place, then I don't mind wearing sweaters more than once. If I'm visiting friends or relatives, then I'll bring them food or just something from home, which will leave me enough space for the goodies that I will buy. But if I'm traveling to a new country for fun, then I will definitely make sure than at least half of the suitcase is empty!

I prefer to keep my suitcase count as low as possible. I really hate to carry much while going out. I try and take only necessary things with me. Unnecessary carrying extra luggage leads to risk for me. I try to travel light.

Hi saundly! I am very bad when it comes to packing! I always
overpack too! It is probably because I don't go away very
often and I just don't really know how to pack! I always take
way too much stuff with me! I think that if I traveled more
often then I would be better at packing! I only go away once
in a while so I just don't know what to take with me. It is
because I can never decide on what I want to wear ahead of
time. I know that is no excuse, but it's true. When I go to
Florida to visit my Mom I always take half my summer clothes
and I know if I need something my Mom would gladly buy it for
me. And I also know that we will end up going shopping and she
will buy me stuff too and then I have trouble getting it into
my suitcase to get everything back home!

I'm good at getting more into the suitcase if i buy stuff. I find that rolling the clothes tightly and putthing them in fits way more in than if you fold them. (i only take stuff that can be tossed in a dryer to be dewrinkled)
With some people's homes i have a habbit of leaving things at their place so i dont have to pack as much...or deal with the airport security.

I'm awful at packing - it seems like I take everything but the kitchen sink with me and then I get there and am missing something (or things). I usually put all my clothes in one big travel bag and then put toiletries and make up in another smaller one. And if we're going on a long car trip I usually end up taking a bag full of books and stuff I'll need in the car, which inevitably gets stuffed with more stuff except the stuff I need.
