Ok so I can't stand the stuff in a can I have to have it fresh. I like to marinate it with red,and green peppers and onions in balsamic vinegar salt and pepper and a little lemon juice then grill it up. It is delicious! Do you like it? hate it? Have you ever had it this way? My DD loves it this way, she is 18 and just loves it.

Oh, I cannot stand the stuff in the can either, although home-canned veggies are good. I don't care to mix anything with fresh asparagus, especially not vinegar, although yours does sound good. I love lemon, but do not care for it in vegetable dishes. My favorite asparagus is steamed to a light emerald green with lots of butter and fresh ground black pepper. I was just thinking about how some frozen vegetables are convenient when fresh ones are not available, but your discussion made me think about asparagus, and I cannot recall ever having frozen asparagus. I wonder why?

Frozen asparagus? Perhaps they don't freeze it because it doesn't keep very well. I'm thinking of frozen spinach. It is available and you can buy spinach frozen, but when you do you put it in a dip or something else. Could you imagine if you had to eat frozen spinach as a vegetable side dish? EWWWW! Perhaps, this is why they do not freeze asparagus. Just my immediate 2ยข worth!

I have purchased frozen asparagus at Wal Mart. It was in a large box, rather than a bag. I like frozen spinach, even as a side dish. I like bacon with it. I will put it in scrambled eggs or dips as well. I love a meal of hard boiled eggs, spinach and beets. Lots of color.

I Have never tased it. Howewever I do prefer fresh vegetables than preserved ones in cans. There are tasteless and not that nutritive compared to fresh ones. The best food is always fresh.

Its funny but some of my best memories revolve around it. I used to as a very young child go and gather it with my grandfather. It grows wild where I live and we would get up in the morning and pick it by the pound. I can remember going back home and grandma washing it and cleaning it all up then cooking it with a little butter and salt and pepper. Once it was cooked all the way through she would melt cheese over the top of it. When my husband and I first got married we were pretty broke and one day we were down to flour, powdered cheese from mac and cheese, Milk, and a 2 pound bag in the freezer. I defrosted it chopped it up and made a delicious soup out of it. Very nice and it became a meal my family now loves to have. I have to say its one of my favorite foods.

OK, now you've just made me hungry and I want some asparagus! I just love asparagus and you've reminded me that I haven't had any in a very long time. I'm a big fan of steaming vegetables or if you do saute them, making sure that you do not over cook them. I hate mushy vegetables. I just add a bit of garlic to mine as well. I have never marinated any in vinegar either, but it sure does sound good. And asparagus, in a can? I didn't even know there was such a thing.... and I don't wanna even think about it if they are anything like canned carrots! UGGG!!!

If you don't like your veggies mushy steer clear of the asparagus in the can YUCK GROSS! My mom likes it in the can. I prefer mine fresh and to still have life in it lol.

Wow! Although I have not tried marinated asparagus so far, but it looks it must be yummy! I would, obviously, like to taste a sample of this recipe! I enjoy marinated products a lot - and my Mom cooks them so well. But never done so with asparagus! I'll tell her to prepare it.

I have not had it that way. I have grilled it plain. I like it steamed, I even like the canned stuff, but even better, I buy it in a frozen stir fry mix or just frozen by itself, because the season is so very short for asparagus here.

I love the stuff, it is yummy! When I lived in Norfolk, VA I planted some in my garden and the seeds spread up and down the railroad tracks near my house as well as along the roadway. I use to go asparagus hunting with my kids. We ate it quite often and I love it in butter sauce. I suppose you can call me johnnie asparagus seed.

I like fresh Asparagus. I have never had the canned stuff though. I like mine steamed until they are just done and tossed with a little butter, salt and pepper. My sister has cooked them in a pan until just done before and topped the same way. Both were good.

I feel same way. Can't handle it out of the can. I haven't had it the way you discribed but I would love to try it. With some shrimp maybe. Yum! Sure sounds good to me. Have to try it this spring.

I can't eat it out of a can either, nor do I like it cold like asparagus salad. To me it's way to slimy then. But I love it if it's fresh and hot. My favorite way is to grill it with some pineapple.

I pickled and canned several jars of asparagus last spring when they where on sale. I put them in quart jars. To buy a 4oz jar of pickled jar costs $4 here in our area. It did not cost us that much to make a quart by doing it here. I have not grilled it with the lemon juice and the balsamic vinegar. I will have to try it.

That is one vegetable that I never did like. I keep trying it every couple years though thinking my tastes might change.
