Have You Tried Whole Wheat Pasta?

I made lunch today and I tried some whole wheat pasta. I purchased it the other day when picking up groceries. I thought it would be a little more healthier. I found that it has a bit of a different taste than regular pasta, but it is still very good. Have you tried whole wheat pasta?

I have tried the whole wheat pasta and I like it. I have also tried the multi grain with flax pasta and I like it even better. I do not like it plain, but then I have always had pasta with tomato sauce. It is more filling then the regular pasta and find that I do not need as much of it as I would have. My husband does not like it, so I have to cook up a batch and freeze it in individual portions. Then when we have spaghetti or macaroni, will heat it up.

It has to do with the fiber in it, unlike regular pasta. I happen to be diabetic, and we are often told to lose weight, so when we cut down, we cut down on the fiber if we were limited to white bread and enriched products, so we have to get the fiber in multi-grain products since we can only eat a limited number of fruits and we cannot just eat salads and vegetables. So the fiber does fill us up.

So it's just not my imagination then, you find whole wheat pasta to be more filling as well?

Yes and I love it. I find it tastier than the more common pasta especially the pasta shapes with rough edges which hold whatever sauce is with it much better. It is very common here in Italy. I tried it years ago and now, together with wholemeal bread, it is something I eat very regularly. Whether it is healthier or not I don't know and I believe that a little bit of everything is good for you!

I am going to try to switch to whole wheat bread too. My dad is always saying that it is healthier.

Not sure about healthier but I find it tastier. I use both - variety is the spice of life!

I like the whole wheat pasta. I think it has a bit of a nutty flavor. It does take some getting used to because of the different texture.

When I saw the whole wheat pasta in my supermarket I thought the same thing about it being healthier so I started buying it. My supermarket are crooks! A one pound box of regular pasta costs $1.29 and when the customers started buying the whole wheat pasta the crooks raised the price to $2.49 for a ONE POUND BOX! I am so mad, I refuse to buy it anymore, I am not paying $2.49 for a box of pasta. I am curious how much does it cost where you live?

That is a shame, they need to stop charging these prices. Finally something better to eat and they have to spoil it.

I think I paid $2.36 for my box. So, not too much cheaper than yours.

Hi Terri I just love pasta but haven't tried the whole wheat pasta yet. I've seen it in the grocery store, but haven't chosen to buy it. I'm not always sure of buying something I haven't had before. I'm afraid I'll get it home, cook it, and then not like it and have to throw it away. Happy MyLotting! Char

I wasn't sure if I would like it or not either, but it turned out that I did. I really couldn't tell a whole lot of a difference really. But that is just me, it seems everyone who has responded to this discussion has had a different view. I guess everyone just has different taste buds.

I only buy whole wheat pastas and breads. In fact, I don't eat anything that is white anymore. The nutritional content is so much higher in whole wheat or brown, breads, pasta's, and rice, that I really don't see a purpose to the other stuff anymore. I think that once you get used to eating whole wheat all of the time you will not want to go back to white. I originally started eating whole wheat bread because it was healthier for me, then I added whole grain pasta, and now brown rice. Now I actually prefer it to the white varieties. It's all in what you get used to, however, even I have to admit, that some of my friends and I enjoy going to a restaurant because they have freshly baked white bread with real butter. we definitely go overboard and stuff ourselves, with real bread and butter. But, that is a special treat, and others find us quite humorous, because they don't understand when we're in ecstasy over a loaf of bread!

Well, I know when I go out to eat that I love the fresh baked rolls. They are to die for! So, I can understand. Yes, my dad has been telling me that whole wheat products are more healthier for me and I should eat them. I just started a diet and I'm hoping it will help me.

I'm not sure if it's just my imagination or not, but I think you may find that the whole wheat pasta is more filling. I eat less of it and am satisfied longer.

Yes, I've tried whole wheat pasta, but the heavy taste is something one must get used to. I found myself using far less pasta and more other ingredients, especially veggies added to the pasta meals. Mushrooms and onions, whole black olives, they all make the pasta sauce more appealing, plus the actual pasta doesn't hold center-stage as much.

Nope. I love pasta, but I could not handle the texture of whole wheat pasta. It feels grainy and it was all I could do to finish my plate. Maybe I cooked it wrong, but I doubt it.. I think that's the way it is. Odd though, because I love almost everything else in whole wheat.

I've had whole wheat pasta a couple of times and I thought it was pretty good. For me, the key to making it taste more like regular pasta is to let it boil a little bit longer than the directions say to. Whole wheat pasta is not something I buy regularly because it's pricier than regular pasta. I only buy it occasionally or when it's on sale.

I've tried it and I don't see alot of difference in it beyond the color and price. I wanted to continue with it but all that extra fiber does hubby in if you know what I mean ;) so I'm banned from using that type of pasta *sigh* & *LOL*

I have actually tried it. I was very pleasantly surprised. I was not brave enough to serve it alone so I mixed it with some regular pasta. I cooked it up together, and no one seemed to recognize that a difference nor did anyone complain that it did not taste good. I honestly don't think that anyone in my family even noticed that I snuck some whole wheat pasta in on them. So I have to say it is pretty good.

I switched to whole wheat awhile back and was surprised that it really was good. I enjoy eating it more now than I do regular pasta and many of the pasta or rice sides that I buy offer it in whole wheat also. I also get the whole wheat macaroni and cheese and my kids have never been able to taste the difference.

I acually buy whole wheat pasta everyonce in a while. It is actually very good for you and like you said, with the right seasoning, it's taste pretty good. But it still isn't as good as the regular pasta,LOL. Then again nothing healthy ever tastes as good as anything else,LOL.

To me there's no real difference in whole wheat and regular pasta but I do like the whole wheat pasta better sometimes. It has a more wholesome flavor to me at least but it could be my imagination. The only thing with the whole wheat pasta though, it takes a little longer to cook than regular pasta.

Yes, I actually use whole wheat pasta in most of my dishes. I don't notice the taste difference because I have been eating it for so long. I find you can't really tell the difference in dishes like spaghetti. I made spaghetti for some friends recently and made it with whole wheat spaghetti noodles. None of my friends had previously eaten whole wheat pasta. When I asked them after dinner if they could tell that I had used it they said they could not. I find a healthier alternative to pasta for people that don't like the taste of whole wheat are the Barilla Plus line. It has all kinds of good stuff in it including omega 3's which are awesome in your diet.

I like the whole wheat spaghetti. My whole family eats it although my daughter is not thrilled by it. It does cost a little more, so I buy it with a coupon or at the warehouse/bulk store.

I have had whole wheat spaghetti before. It was ok. It has a bit of a different taste and texture. I am not sure if I like it or not. I got a big 2 pound bag of it though, so I used it until it was gone.

Nope can't do it! LOL Don't like it at all. I love whole wheat bread but I didn't like the pasta. It seems a bit grainy to me. The taste wasn't that bad but the texture was not for me!
