http://www.wyff4.com/safetyandrecalls/18341530/detail.html#- Even though there have been NO deaths, Melamine has been found in some cocoa products sold here in the US. Did you buy some of this product for a friend or family member??? How would you deal with it if you had??? Do you think we should stop importing products from the offending foreign countries until they get their products back under control??? We have stringent product control. So, why do we accept products from countries that ship inferior products??? Smokers pay huge tax penalties for making themselves sick. Why should inferior products be allowed in to make unsuspecting people sick??? The foreign government sure isn't going to pay our doctor bills!!! Do you have answers to these questions or do you have some questions that I've forgotten??? What do you think???

OMG why the heck are they putting the melamine in the products in the first place? I am with you shall we just stop importing foods and food products from other countries. Where is the tainted peanut butter coming from?

It is a terrible thing. So many things are outsourced to different countries and we are no longer taking care of ourselves! It is a shame that this is happening to us and it will continue to happen if we allow it to. We need to let our congress men and senators know that we want changes! Until we the people step up the government will continue to do as it wishes (which means letting inferior products cross onto our shores for our use).

I think we need to start charging import fees to companies that outsource a certain percentage of their workforce. They are playing both sides of the coin. They want the benefits of being an American Company yet want the benefits of the cheap labor force in another country. That cheap source that doesn't pay any taxes toward the support of the US. So, let the company pay part of the missing revenue with the money it saves in the form of import fees.

Hi MW..I am thinking the same as you, how can they find out this then allow the cocoa to still be imported...there are so many other things that have Melamine in or some other dangerous substance that we are now finding we are drinking or eating, it is ridiculous..the government should have a serious look at the food and drink they import hugs littleowl

I realize we cannot check every item coming through. However, once we realize we have a problem, we can refuse any more items from that country until we can be guaranteed that the problem has been fixed. And I mean ALL items coming from that country. If you notice, this article said the product came from a Canadian distributor but neglected to say what country the product originally came from. Being a form of finely ground plastic, it seems that there should be a way to see it before we drink it. I sometimes wonder if we are being fully informed!!!

Yes, any country that has been founding putting these ingredients into products should be completely banned from selling in the USA. Also, someone once said that USA companies, who outsource production in other countries, should be made to pay the workers in the other countries the same minimum wage that USA workers are paid. See how fast they stop sending out jobs to other countries!!

I agree with the banning of ANY country whose product is found to be a health hazard atleast until they can prove that the problem has been solved!!! Then we will begin trading with them again. We need to make US labor more conducive to lower paying jobs. Many who are willing to do the menial jobs are told that they are subhuman because they don't earn as much as others. We need to realize that low prices & high wages do NOT go hand in hand. Maybe give a little credit to those willing to work for lower wages doing the menial jobs!!! I think that we should be able to see that the menial jobs are equally important as the elite jobs. So far it's NEVER been the janitor who sold a company out from under the loyal employees....it's the guy making the $25 million bonus. In my opinion, CEO stands for Chitty Executive Officer!!!

Hi LadyMarissa, We haven't had that problem yet, least I haven't heard anything in the UK but I always make sure I don't buy anything from these countries, and I don't drink Cocoa or bought any for any body, I think its disgusting for these people to put that stuff in, in the first place. Tamara

The problem is that we've driven out most of the manufacturing industry in our country. Whether it was unions, high taxes or other reasons--or just greed, wanting to get cheap labor--our manufacturing has gone overseas and there is no regulation. The only thing we can do is do without products we can't get as made in this country. Sure, we'll all be going around naked and hungry but we'll not die from cancer! Seriously, quit buying foreign products as much as possible. Don't vote for tax increases for businesses, they aren't the enemy here. Make it a friendlier business climate and more profitable and we might see some businesses start to return to our country. I doubt it, but that's the only thing I can think of right now.
