Do you think Obama will be assassinated?

Seriously, put aside your political choices and tell me if you honestly think that the new President of the United States, Barrack Obama, will be assassinated during his term as President. I'm not asking if you hope it happens or want it to happen - I'm asking if you THINK it will happen. I would never wish that on anyone but I'd be lying if I said I did not believe that some serious attempts will be made and it's very possible that it could happen.

Attempts may be made, but I do not think they will even come close. I hope not, but feelings have been running strong for quite awhile.

I know exactly what you mean and I pray that it doesn't happen. It was very interesting that he would write a letter to his daughters at this time, telling them why he decided to become president. Seems like he would save that for after his term was over. You know, to kind of sum everything up. He is intelligent enough to know that his life is in constant danger. But, no matter what the risk in any situation, there is always someone courageous enough to step forward and be the first. No matter what happens, he is a legend now. They may have to be enough for him, I do not know. What is eerie though, and I have to be very careful in saying this, I don't want the FBI or CIA knocking on my door and I certainly do not want to give any idiots any new ideas, there is something that I hope he realizes that can make all of this not be worth it at all. Not if they kill him, but his wife or one of his daughters. That would totally cripple him more than anything and I do not believe he would be able to go on. He has showed the world his biggest weakness and that is not good. I know that he wants to portray himself as a good family man, but I would have been a little more protective of my family than that. They have been thrust into the limelight and to me, it seems kind of unfair. I know that it happened with the Kennedy's and that was going to be my next argument. If they were able to get Kennedy, surely they could have gotten his children just as easily. It wouldn't be worth it to lose those beautiful little girls or their mother.

Because I do not watch television, i do not see the girls moving around that much. Whenever I see them they have posed for a picture in a magazine or newspaper. I pray that all goes well for them.

Back when Kennedy was assassinated there wouldn't have been any 'fame' in killing the family to get to the guy. It just wasn't done. It would have been considered cowardly. Nowadays even extended family is fair game as long as they stick it to the man. No, you didn't give any idiot a new idea. I'm sure whoever is plotting something also took that into consideration. Terrorists don't really care whom they hit anymore as long as they get close enough to the target simply to show that they can. Yes, it's unfair to the kids to put them at risk like that. But it looks like they at least try to look out for the kids. From what I can see on TV, when the kids are with them, there is a bigger security detail and movable bullet proof windows. You see them move those around a lot. I sure hope that nothing happens, especially to them.

well I hope he doesn't but looking at the history with American presidents and putting that together with the people of today that seem to have so much hate i wouldn't be surprised but i hope they give him a chance, he deserves that, he might be just what this world needs..

I find myself thinking if no one was able to assassinate the greatly hated George W, security must be pretty good (even when citizens have no defense leaders still will as will the wealthy). It's hard for me to imagine a hatred any deeper than that one and as a tiny bit of a prophet, I can't see that we have seen the end of it.. But it's good to see people trying for peace and hoping for good changes and directions..

I believe something will happen to him. Someone has already tried or planned to assasinate him and this was before he even voted to be president. There is alot of racist people out there and they arnt to happy with having a black president. Me on the other Hand I think its good that we have a black president.

Historicly speaking, no. With security what it is he has a higher chance of being killed by a ciggarette or a car accident than being assasinated. By the way, was is it with everyone thinking he will be assasinated, This has come up more than with any other president I can remember.

because if you have dug into history... you will see there that when one black american stated his desire to run for presidency, he got assasinated... his name... martin luther king... This was not proven... But with the KKK around... Blacks and other nationalities are not safe, not even the president of the united states...

I think Barack Obama will have difficulties during his presidency but I don't think he will be assassinated. He will get many menaces but I doubt they will come true. What scares me is that people/organizations who/which hate Barack Obama will hurt american citizens - innocent people.

I doubt it. He has so much security that even if he got depressed and tried to kill himself, thousands of security agents will work double time trying to save his life. I mean even if he gets a heart attack or if he swallows a golf ball and starts choking, the best doctors will be working on him to save his life. Why I bet if he was out in the rain and there was a lightening storm they would make sure the lightening rods surrounding him will take the force that would have likely killed him.

I sure hope not. We have enough violence and corruption in the world already. If someone assassinates him, it will start a war or riot for sure.

No. I have complete faith that our Secret Service will provide him with the best protection as they have past presidents. Assassination attempts are to be expected and it's been a long time since we've had a president who didn't have to weather such attempts. You can be sure they are EXTRA cautious right now with his current celebrity status. That's why this whole Blackberry crap is pissing me off because it compromises the security of our president which is about the NATION, not just the president himself.

I really hope that doesn't happen; no matter who you or I or anyone voted for--we need to be supportive of our chosen President. And I think it would be terrible and make me feel physically sick if Obama was assassinated. I would think of his family, how it would effect them...and how awful it would be for them. But as to whether or not I THINK he will be; it's always a possibility. I mean, I can't throw it out completely. And I will say there probably will be attempts, but I'm hoping he's gaurded enough so that it doesn't happen.

They must think it is a very pliable option as I read about the NEW security cars they have "Created" for him.. all the bullet proof this and that.. stuff that no other president has ever had or apparently needed and all just this side of 007 ammenities...

He definitely has a bigger target on his back then some of the presidents before him. Just the color of his skin makes him an attractive target to certain groups in the US. That's just a given. We have a history of presidents being assassinated because their politics were inconvenient for some. They have already arrested some guys who had plotted some sort albeit half-baked assassination attempt. I might not like the guy but this is not something I wish on him or anybody for that matter. Killing the key person does not always stop the movement. In this case anyway. It would also be bad for the US and definitely would get our economy in really bad trouble. If we can't protect our president then how can we protect anything else;) He is undoubtedly fully aware of the target he is. Never before have I seen such obvious security measures such as the bullet proof glass that surrounds him practically at all times, especially when he is with his family. It wouldn't surprise me, if he is wearing a bullet proof vest at his appearances. I think by making these security measures so visual they are trying to weed out the lunatics who might try something. I hope it won't happen. Even if one doesn't like him and his politics. It's at most eight years, right?

I don't think it will because as much as many hate Mr. Bush.. no one assassinated him and it's hard to imagine hatred going much deeper than it does for him...

There's likely to be at least one attempt. There are just too many fanatical groups that hate him for one reason or another. one of them is bound to have a nutcase that'll try it.

to be honest i dont think he will, when i first heard about him wanting to run as a president candidate, i did think at first that he would be assasinated if he wone but as time has gone on i have thought that to be less likely as the security realy seems to be quite tight around him. Plus the majority of the racists that want to kill him probably dont have the inteligence to be able to pull off somthing as complex as assassinating one of the worlds most powerfull men.

In honesty I do and not necessarily by some crazed racist. I think it's going to be by some supporter who finally wakes up and realizes that he's lied throughout his campaign, he has his own agenda that benefits him and his cronies and that all the empty promises he made to get him elected were (by his own words) nothing more then political rhetoric (meaning he lied through his teeth). When the truth is finally out, there will be alot of disappointed, disillusioned ppl out there looking for revenge. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

First, you should be carefull putting those 2 words together anywhere online, given the paranoid security environment these days, web crawlers snag this kind of thing and draw the wrong kind of attention. Second, this has been proposed time and time again in here. WHo knows, about the same chance, despite the hype, as any other. there's always a disgruntled person out there with an ax to grind. bush had several attempts himself, mostly by forign interests, I imagine the same chance with the incomming administration.

cathy.. no one said he SHOULD be assassinated - I was asking if you think he will be or attempts will be made. If he was a white man, then it would be o.k.? You're saying that this is only important to the USA because he is black. I hope that is not the real reason this is important - I hope what is important is that he is the best man for the job regardless of his skin color.
