One Red Skirt

A little piece of flash fiction for our darling funny, couldn't do without her, Bo.... My tired brown brogues were resting. Lounging lazily at the edge of the dance floor once more. It had been months since my sensible shoes had crossed the threshold of this particular club; gone but not forgotten. It was now high summer and many feet were bare, shed of silk and cotton, leather and canvas. Suddenly a flash of red, a swirl of color, a whisper of sound........could it be? Not shoes. But a gypsy skirt of iridescent hues. Red and gold and orange and blues. Fatigue departed, and my sensible brown brogues were on the trail again. A skirt, a skirt, of reds and golds, swirling, spinning, soaring, lifting, taking my breath away. Kodak moments of long pale legs, feet twisting, turning, tapping. Dancing away, away from me. Lost among the crowd, a glimpse here, a glimmer there, that one red skirt tantalizing me with it's frantic song of movement, invitation and promise. I followed, I reached, I touched, I dreamed, of catching that gypsy skirt and wrapping it around me. To be lost among it's colors of wonder, sliding my hand beneath it's folds, finding the lace at the apex of it's owner, dreaming, and tripping over my brogues, losing the dream and falling to the floor. Well sh*t! Nice move Sherlock. You've fallen down and you can't get up. Medic, medic! Time I think to retire the brogues...................

Wow! That grabbed my attention and kept it all the way through. So suggestive and sensuous. Makes one appreciate the colours in another wonderful way. What a lovely way to start the day, sparks. And then you added your wonderful humour at the end. Great one! *claps wholeheartedly*

But I retired my brogues!*sob* And the timing of Bo's new avatar was pretty darn good! LOL For YOU my favorite Rose Kitty, I will begin a new series of flash fiction, and leave the color red behind (remember Nova's red shoe?), and go to the green of nature's plants! ROFL You'll have to wait until tomorrow though, as I'm about to go off site and eat my brownies in peace and quiet. Sconibear steals them you know! LOL

Given Rose's friends, we can at least always be assured that when she's handing out brownies there's gonna be a NUT eating it!

"Not shoes." Ha! Yup, how could I not be drawn to this piece??? It's beautiful, Sparky, as would be expected from one such as yourself. I love it. And although it's a bit difficult to share you and your amazing stories, I'm proud to have been number one among your stories. You know what I mean. Lucky Bo. And such a worthy recipient! It appears Rosekitty wants to be next, and who in the world could blame her? You can do it, whether or not your brogues are retired. If not brogues, what about penny loafers?........ Me and my red shoes are off to Southwestern Missouri to see my mom and two of my sisters. I'm in serious need of my mommy right now and I'm very much looking forward to being wrapped in her lovin arms for a few days. Oh yeah. I'm ok, darlin, it's just that I've been through so much in the last few months and I've had very little sympathetic support, not counting of course the support I get from all of you. And it's been since fall since I've seen them. So I'm going this evening and I most likely won't be on the Lot for the next 4-6 days. So if anyone asks, I'm only out of town, but I haven't left the Lot, wouldn't, couldn't, nope, not ever. I'll see you upon my return. Love you, miss you. xxxx

I had Bo read the Red Shoe discussions before I wrote this, so of course I had to reference them! YOU were the inspiration after all. And yes now RoseKitty and Royal too.........LOL Are we having fun yet? Well are we? ROFL Nova, I'm glad to hear you're going 'home' for awhile. I understand completely that you need it, and it will feed your soul as well as your heart. Can't ask for more than that. Bask deeply in your mother's love darling. It will feed HER soul and heart too. We will miss you, but are comforted to know you are safe and cared for, and look forward to your return. Just think of the lovely discussions you'll have to read when you get back! LOL

Wow... I felt as though I was there, watching that dancer and feeling her skirt. You have a wonderful way with words my friend... so descriptive and action packed. It was almost as though I was dreaming of the gypsy, raising her tamborine as she swirled around the woodland glade. I know you were inside, but if you knew one of my premier dreams, you would perhaps know where I was coming from! Brightest Blessings and thank you for sharing your dream about the Red Skirt.

Gypsy Dream - Oh for the life of a Romany Gypsy and the freedom which goes with it!
I do believe we might have a similar dream my friend. You know something? If I didn't know better, I'd think you were my friend in Tumwater WA!!! Boy! Your sense of humour, your likings and dislikes are just the same... it's difficult to put you apart from her. I do have one somewhat larger dream, but this pic should give you a clue of the dream I'm talking about!!!

I love this story, but I wish you hadn't ended it with humor. I wanted him to get the red gypsy skirt. I wanted the romance to continue. And yet, it was good. Ok, better than good, but the ending just didn't flow for me. Still, if you can make so much of this small scene, you have great potential as a writer! I am in awe of how you made the skirt so alluring. Very nice. And I loved the disassociation from humans...it was just enough. Very nicely done.

Thank you. I had to add the humor though because our Bo just brings it out in people and as this piece was a tribute to her............
