Do you get offended when someone blows their nose in front of you?

Most likely if I was having dinner with that person most likely I know the person well so why would I mind! The one thing I do not like is calls during diner time. At my house we do NOT accept calls at the table unless one of us are expecting a call then I make an exception. Even at a restaurant no calls is the rule unless there is a family member who had been ill. Then we have caller ID and we block calls that do not show the number and if a call gets thru and it shows no number I will not answer it. Dinner is our private time, no one allowed unless invited. My other thing, dinner will be served at a certain time , if not there then we will eat without the other family member and then they can reheat it themself.

The first thing that came to mind when I read the title of your discussion was when people are eating and someone blows their nose. But you mentioned that. What is really bad, is when they blow it, and the proceed to pick their nose by continually shoving the tissue up their nose like they are trying to get something. Please, go somewhere else and do it!

Offended? No. I would rather they blew their nose than sniffered insecently forever. That drives me crazy! Ya, I would definitely much rather have someone blew than sniffer.

I am a little bugged if it is at the table, otherwise, it hardly phases me. It sure beats having a runny nose and ignoring it.

UK_Shree,
I would not mind if the other party is doing it discreetly and considerately. I can understand these little inconveniences especially when one has a sensitive nose, sudden temperature fluctuations or sickness. It is just natural and instinctive for them to do so. So, with the tissues and hankies, it would be acceptable and decent for me than some blatant ones that blows right out onto the floor in total oblivion of those around.
Have a nice day.

UK_Shree,
Just a little addition here, the Japanese have a knack of sniffling with their running nose and they do not blow their nose in our presence. Reason being that if they blow their nose then it is deemed by others that they lack self control.
Sometimes, I'd rather they clear their nose than put up with their sniffling.
.
Cheers.

It's a natural function, I don't mind it at all. What I do mind is someone who won't blow their nose and keep sniffing the stuff up rather than blowing it out. I wouldn't be grossed out if someone had to blow their nose at the table but they should excuse themselves. I don't know why, but people will blow their noses at the table in restaurants and I don't really care for that.

I hate the sound of people blowing there nose, it doesn't offend me, but I do dislike it. I suppose it is kind of offending when you ask people not to do it around you and the they do it just to spite you. I do not blow my nose around other people because I do not like it when they do it around me.

Since I have to blow mine occasionally, I don't get offended most times. But, if it is done where I am eating, yes, it not only upsets me, I get sick at my stomach. There is no excuse for someone blowing their nose in front of people eating.

I think being discreet is good. I know someone else who feels sick if someone blows their nose whilst having dinner. I guess if you know that someone will be offended, it is polite to excuse yourself and find somewhere else to blow it, such as the toilet for example.
