Frustrated with fellow MyLotters....

I have made roughly 20 posts in the last week, cumulative total, because people are frustrating me. Maybe it's just me but it seems like lately there has been an influx of duplicate discussions. I mean really, you can only answer "Who is your favorite band and why?" so many times before it becomes incredibly boring. I can understand duplicating a discussion that hasn't had a hit in 6 months or a year but seriously, I've seen duplicates on the same day, several hours apart from different people. And there are also a large number of very specific discussions, especially in the movies and music discussions. I have gone to the music discussion area and seen the same person (different people from one time to the next) with 8 different topics "Do you like (INSERT ARTIST NAME HERE)?"

Well, I have not seen such discussion as I only go for my friend's discussion and no responses section. It is difficult for members to check before they start a discussion as it is time consuming. As for me, I also don't check if the discussion is already on mylot or not. Don't be frustrated because people with those discussions would soon realize that people only go for good disucssions only!

Time consuming is not an excuse for not using the search bar. On any other forum/discussion site I've been on, duplicate posts get locked and/or deleted with a nasty note from the Mods saying this has already been posted, use a keyword search before starting a new thread.

i understand completely how you feel... sometimes i also have the same feeling like you... i feel frustrated because i see the same type of discussions over and over again and i get tired of answering them... also, i couldn't find quality discussions to respond to at times... and during those times, i just take time off from mylot and do something else... take care and have a nice day...

Get used to it crimsonladybug! It's frustrating I agree, but our best defense is to ignore discussions like these and not give them the satisfaction of a response. Hopefully these types of users will give up on tis approach in time if they find that no-one actually bothers interacting with them on discussions such as these. People playing numbers games, or not making the effort to try and be original will never keep my attention for long!

I too get frustrated with the amount of times that I see the same posts posted again and again. I am one of these people who look for new and interesting posts. I too find myself bored with answering the same types of questions over and over again, and I'm kind of glad that I am not the only one who feels the same way!

well i think you should just do what you feel it's right,i understand that members that do such can actually make the site boring to us if we have to talk about the same topic over and over again...this should be checked.

Hello there Crimsonladybug, i think that it is the design of MyLot that is why somehow the discussions are redundant. I can't see for myself how to post if there was an existing topic posted already. I mean, i am still a newbie here, if ever you can tell me how to check for the topics listed here so that i won't be posting the same thing too, then at least traffic here would also be lessened and at the same time, more people could post different topics. I think them too, just like me, did not see any post made by fellow MyLotter. I can only see that someone posted that topic once i submitted my discussion. And gee, here you go, you can't pull it back anymore.

So you've noticed this too, huh? I wasn't sure myLot did and was doing something about it, but now am glad to hear it's taken note of such and deleted some. It's not only frustrating, but also annoying, as it's wasting space, not to mention time haivng to re-read them.

crimsonladybug, It just prove one point that great minds do think alike but they sure do not have any similarities when they are free to behave. I do not know about you but I feel that most of these duplicate postings are deliberate. So, don't be too upset about it and if you have a good network of friends here, I am all too sure that there will be responses from them. Just leave it to the moderators to do their job for those who intentionally default and you just keep your chin up and post coming. Cheers.

Those are extremely boring. I realize it is difficult not to revisit certain topics as myLot has been up for quite some time and with over 150,000 members, discussions are bound to be repeated, however as you said within the same day is a little ridiculous. Some of those could be attributed to 2 or more people having the same idea around the sime time which would be coincidence but not unrealistic. However, that is not a valid explanation for all of them. Also, about a month or so ago I posted an annoyed discussion about a spammer on myLot who posted at least 8 or more discussions in half an hour. Amusing thing is since then I have not seen them. They must've gotten caught. I can share your annoyance with people at times. I admit I may inadvertantly be guilty of it from time to time but it is not intentional. Can't these people come up with their own material instead of duplicating that of others?

Hi, I have started a discussion today entitled who is your favorite band and why. The reason for it is I am very new to mylot and only really started on it yesterday and am still getting to grips with it all. I thought it just seemed a light hearted topic to get to know a few people through. I suppose I should have thought that thousands of other people would have already asked but being so new to it all it didn't even enter my head. Really just saying I didn't mean to cause any offense or to bore anyone. Sorry, Ian

I'm sure the poster would bare no grudge toward you. I know I certainly do not. The real problem is when even more seasoned myLotters start doing it, people who have over 200 posts and have been here plenty long enough to know better.

I don't really think that this is anything to get frustrated about. You have to remember that pretty much everyone here on mylot is basically sharing the same goal when using this website. They're probably just trying to keep themselves occupied, or they are just looking discuss, but there are also people that are just here for earning some money. That's probably why you see so many pointless posts like that but you can't really do anything about it because there's been those kind of posts on here since I started and they don't really seem to stop. Sorry.

Duplicate posts are against the guidelines. This poster has every right to get frustrated about them. And there is something we can do, report, report, report! That little ! is my best friend, but only when people are really rulebreakers like putting email addresses or ref links in discussions.

I have seen the same thing and it does get a little irritating but I just answer one of them and don't bother with the next ones. There are quite a few things that fellow mylotters do that drive me crazy so I just move on the keep the irritation at bay. THe one thing that bugs me the most is bad grammar. I understand that some are not native English speakers, but those that are should realize that reading cuz instead of because is annoying. I understand in text messaging, but you are using a keyboard. Its not that hard. Even worse is wuz...its the same number of letters!

To me, shorthand is not bad grammar. It is an accepted way of writing things and saves a little bit of typing. I can understand the wuz versus was thing, but I haven't really seen that one. However, cuz is common and I even use it from time to time. There is not a single thing wrong with shorthand. That is like saying & instead of and is wrong.

hey lady. Its not the ppl dont respond to your posts and respond to duplicate posts created by others. Follow few simple suggestions which i got from my fellow mylotters. Always participate in the discussion. DO add in the friends and turn you notifications on, by doing so, you will come to know when your friend posted a discussion that you can reply to him/her. By doing so, even you will get the resposes from your friends. And always create the discussions which reflects your personal experience. by doing so, other will try to know you and will share their own experiences also. I hope i helped you.

Can't you read? They are not talking about not getting responses. They are talking about myLotters who duplicate discussions. Therefore, your response is completely irrelevant. Next time make sure you read and understand the content of the discussion.
