I am just wondering sometimes because my hubby said, his peanut butter would be put in the refrigerator after it was opened.. He is fond of peanut butter.. I am not.. Well, I did put it. Well, what I am used to is that I will just put the peanut butter in the cup board or pantry after it was opened not in the refrigerator. What about you? are you keeping it inside the ref? It becomes harder and I don't like it anymore... It is yummy when it's not hard. what about you?

My mom keeps hers in the refrigerator. But, I like mine in the cupboard. It doesn't require refrigeration. Plus, it is sooo incredibly hard to spread on bread when it is cold! I think it tastes better at room temperature too.

Do you like the creamy or crunchy kind the best?

yes that's most responders are saying. It is creamy when it is put outside the ref.. but others also have a point why they keep them inside the ref. Thanks for sharing.

Hello there! Just signed in and saw this discussion. My hubby likes the creamy one but i like mine crunchy. The creamy one is kept on the cupboard and the crunchy goes into the fridge.

i think i know why your hubby likes it in the ref...i've noticed that when you put it in the ref it turns hard and turns into a sort of ice cream like consistency..=) that's the only thing i can think of

hahaha...i sometimes scoop out peanut butter on a teaspoon and eat it without putting it on any bread..that's probably why that was the first thing i thought of hehe :)

I don't eat peanut butter but would presume it was the same as choclate spread or marmite. I don't put those in the refridgerator as they would go all hard! You then wouldn't be able to spread them without ripping the bread or roll to shreds!

That's right, but I think, it helps to preserve the food and kills unwanted bacteria too.

I've never heard of someone keeping peanut butter in a refridgerator. I just keep the jars in our cupboard until we need it. There seems to be nothing wrong with the contents. It's still very editable.

Hey Bebs! No I don't put opened peanut butter in the refrigerator. I have never put it in the refrigerator and I have never had a problem with it spoiling. I always put it back in the cabinet. Peanut butter can stay for a long time without spoiling in the cabinet and still taste fresh and yummy!

Well, I tried to put the peanut butter in the counter last few days when we bought some but there is another kind of peanut butter in the fridge now. One in the counter and one in the fridge but of different brand. The one in the counter is creamy than that of in the fridge.

I put it inside the refrigerator. And I have to say, after reading the first page of responses, I feel like I am the only responder on here that puts peanut butter inside the refrigerator. Either way, the peanut butter tastes like peanut butter.

I only put peanut butter in the fridge because my mother told me to do so. If I forgot to put it in the fridge, my mother would always lecture me on how the peanut butter will go bad. It is funny to know that my mother and your husbands both had a same reason.

I keep it in the pantry. I used to store in in the fridge, but then I saw that many of my friends kept it on the shelf. It does taste better and I have never experienced any upset stomach over it.

Great discussion! I have always put my peanut butter in the fridge for the longest. I even do it with my jelly. And yes you are right it gets hard that way. My hubby always puts it in the cabinet. He says that it is easier to take out of the jar. So, I still continue to put mines in the fridge..

I do not keep my peanut butter in the refrigerator. A you said, it becomes too hard. My husband tends to put it in there though. If I see it in the fridge, I take it out and put it back in the cupboard. That seems to save it a bit.

Never heard of putting peanut butter in the fridge. That is just weird to me but then I remember how my ex in-laws refused to refrigerate their soda even after it was opened and I thought they were crazy for that. Perhaps its something your husband has grown up with and is used to it being done that way.

No I don't. I keep it in the pantry. I don't like it when the peanut butter gets hard - I like it smooth and spreadable. But I do know some people who keep peanut butter in the fridge and all condiments like ketchup and mustard in the pantry. I guess this falls under to each his own...

I am a huge fan of peanut butter and never have kept in the fridge ot heard to do so. i would think it would lose some of the soft creaminess in the cold. I like crunchy peanut butter but it would be the same effect. Hopefully someone who works in a restuarant will chime in. They would know as there is probably a regulation for it, plus it would not be used all the time. There is no reason to think that it could be harmful it sound more like a matter of preference. i know if you do not use the peanut butter for a while the oil rises, this might not happen in the fridge.

well, as I observed our peanut butter in the fridge, i can't see any oil in it. It is just that is too hard to take out when we will be using it for spread. thanks for sharing.

I always keep my peanut butter in the cabinet & have never had a problem. I love peanut butter especially the creamy kind. I have seen some natural peanut butter that said to refrigerate after opening but I don't usually buy that because of having to refrigerate it & it becomes too cold. Everyone else that I know also keeps theirs in the cabinet or pantry & hasn't had any problems either.

Oh really? you have given me an idea,, maybe the one that he wanted to put in the ref is the kind that is suppose to be refrigerated after opening. I did not check it yet.

I keep the peanut butter in the pantry. I also keep a stick of margarine out so that it is spreadable.

Peanut butter tastes good when it's kept at room temperature. Though keeping in fridge prevents the oil in it from turning rancid, it also harden the oil/fat in it. And since we finish up a bottle in a few weeks, we don't see reason to keep it in the fridge. It's also harder to spread when it's cold.

that's correct!! maybe if only one is using peanut butter at home like we do, we have to buy the small bottle which is consumable in a short period of time.

Hello Bebs, just like your husband I like having peanut butter too. Usually I just put it on the pantry after opening it. I don't like eating a peanut butter that have been refrigerated since it gets to hard and I can't hardly get it. . Peanut butter is one of the spread that I like to have on my sandwich or at times I just eat it without the bread. It is so yummy.

No.I keep it out.I find in the fridge it becomes too hard.I do however keep the jam in the fridge.. I love to just dipp A SPOON INTO A JAR OF SOFT CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER AND EAT IT PLAIN JUST LIKE THAT...If it was in the fridge I do believe it would ruin my peanutbutter experience! Its also a good source of protein.

I am just curious since i haven't placed our peanut butter outside the ref and it's been there for a month since hubby and i do put spread in our bread often times. I don't know if once i take it out in the ref, would there be a possibility of spoiling the peanut butter? My mother used to keep them in the ref. So i got used of placing the peanut butter inside the ref only. Because of the fear of spoiling the peanut butter if we keep it outside pantry or cupboard. I hope you also can enlighten me about your experience. Since i haven't tried yet if it will get spoil. I am also keeping others like Mayonnaise and other cheese spreads inside the ref, just like the peanut butter.

Well, that's my hubby's reason why he wants the peanut butter in the fridge it's because it will help it to preserve. Of course mayonnaise and other spread is always in the fridge there's no problem with them to get harder. The main reason is to keep it from spoiling. At this point, we have peanut butter in the cupboard, a creamy peanut butter and we have a smuck peanut butter also inside the fridge. We no longer used the one in the fridge for it is hard to spread.. lol.. we used the one in the cupboard, it is fresh and did not spoil yet. Lol.
