Do you have any spare change?

Spare Change - My 2 containers of change around my house.

We've all heard this from a stranger I am sure. But this discussion is not about beggars etc. According to a news report recently it is stated that the average American has just over $94 in change lying around their homes in some way or another. This is a shot of the containers I have woith coins in them. One is a 7 pound pail with pennies. It is about 1/4 filled making about $35 the coffee can is a small one and 1/3 filled with roughly $80 in it. So I have well over the average stash of coinage according to that nes report. Do you save change? About how much do you think you have if so? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have pennies in several containers around the house, even coffee cans. I have a bank full of pennies that I use as a door stop. I have change in my purse and it makes my purse heavy. I need to get this change together and see what I have.

I guess we are below average here then. We only have one small glass container with a few pennies in it. I would estimate that it has around 40 cents in it right now. My hubby is the only one that puts money in there and it is always pennies. I stash my coins in my car so I have them for drive thru windows :) Have a great day!

yes, we are just the same, kareng. neither do we have so much loose change at home. since we keep on using them for those little purchases at neighborhood stores and for paying fares, too. these coins come in handy for those little things that we have to pay for from time to time.

I have a little dog that is a bank that some kind of candy came in. I have a bunch of change in it. I'm not really sure how much is in there though. I recently took out enough to go buy me some postage stamps with cause I didn't want to have to use my cash to buy them. My son also has a stoplight that stands up that holds change and he has a bunch in there but I haven't counted to see how much was in it. We just usually give him change to put in it when he wants some. Also, his grandparents give him money to put in it to. But I'm sure we have over the $94 that the news report was talking about.

We have a huge Seagram's 7 whiskey bottle. I got it at a garage sale one time and we put change in it. My husband usually has a pocket of change that he puts in there at least once a week. I am not sure how much it is there, I haven't even looked at it in a long time.

If I had the camera handy I could have taken a picture of the child sized whisky bottle we use for our change! It is almost empty at the moment (other half stole the contents darn it Lol) but not the first time we have caashed it out just before a holiday and gotten as much as £200 from it. Unfortunately we did not drink the contents of the whisky bottle first - it was a promotional item given to me by my boss whilst I was still working! xxxx

I always pick up pennies, so end up having too many for my change purse. I toss them in a miniature blue box (recycling box) until there's room once again in my change purse. I think I have about $1 in pennies in the box at the moment.

That's a good question BarBara, I might should go and see if it is still there. hahaha I do know the bottle is there and unless you really look at it you have to open the top and look inside because the glass bottle is so dark brown.

You talkin' t'me? I just take them as I need them, no set amount. Like this morning, I had a delivery I had to pay for... $20.08... I just grabbed eight pennies from the box.

Well, I guess that's how unorganized most people are. But here in my house, we don't have those lying around because we have a place for all the 'change', it's right in front of the main door where everyone goes through and passes by the change tray and they put their change for the day there. I guess this is how it goes because we need change a lot here in our country. We directly pay for jeepney and transportation fares and most of the things we buy don't have exact prices, hehehe.. that's why we need changes.

I don't know about the others, but my friends and their families don't have change lying around. We're quite a very neat type of people. We like cleaning. While people go on places for the holidays, we stay at home, cleaning. hehehehe...

I can't afford to save change these days. I always used to and would regularly empty everything into pots for the purpose after each shopping trip. That has stopped recently and I gather them together to go out to DO the shoopping now. Oh the times they are a changin'. Oh and by the way, here the beggars don't ask for your small change anymore. They ask directly 'Have you got a euro?'!! Inflation I guess

I save it and then put it in my savings account, it's like found money to me. I keep in a little crock that my grandma used for brown sugar. I've got to stop using my debit card so often and start dealing with cash again so I can accumulate more coins!

That is something we have always done is save change. I have this big green bottle that we save our change in. I don't know how much is in it now as it is about just under half full. The last time it was about 1/4 full and there was a few hundred euro in it. Our aim this time is to try and fill it and then cash it up. It is always good to have some change saved up for those rainy days.

YES!! LOL I love to save my change, I have done so since I was a teenager, my mother started me on that when she was a waitress and saved up to buy my brothers mattress and our school supplies at the beginning of the school year... so this has always stuck with me... I didnt make as much change as her of course, but twice a year I would roll my change and get anywhere from $75-100 and this I would use to go on vacations with my friends and boyfriend (my hubby now)... and he started doing it when he saw how much I would save up...LOL

That's why for me, I don't leave them lying around, just try to spend them before the dollars so that they won't accumulate.

i normally keep small change to give it to my young schooling daughter as her lunch money.. whatever change i get during the month - i'll throw it into the 'lunch-money box' on my dresser. i rarely count them, but i think i have about $30-$40 in it... that's the only place i keep my change.. and each my children has their own savings box.. and i think they each manage to save about $5-$7 a month..

Very nice way.. I like how you think. I do the same actually! When time comes that my daughter has to go to school as well, She would be asking me for her money already by jumping up and down like a jumping bean. Very cute indeed.

Yes I do save change I have been saving it for ages, I need to get rid of it really and put it in a bank account but the thought of counting it just puts me off!! I reckon I have about £200 in change at the minute, not sure what that is in dollars probably about $300 or so. I have a jar that is over half full of pound coins and then a baby milk container that is full to the brim of other coins. I am thinking now of putting it towards the cost of christmas as hubby was made redundant five weeks ago and as yet there is not much signs of a job so it would serve me well to bank it somewhere and forget about it til christmas just in case.

One of my banks just pours it into a machine which sorts it out and prints a voucher. You can then either get cash, or put it directly into your bank account. We used to do Newspaper machines for an extra job, so we did this a lot.

I also have a stash of coins lying aournd my place. They come helpful when I need a few loose change for my fares. But now I do keep this change in a piggy bank. Im pretty sure I will be quite surprised if I noticed this piggy bank full. I also pick up loose changes I whenever I see one and keep them in my piggy bank. I know this these coins will go a long way when they are accumulated.

The pqil with the pennies is from a 7 pound container of cat food so it is large. I had it filled 3/4 once when I cashed it in and it was almost $100. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~
