RRR. Have you heqard of this? It is the 3 "R's".
They stand for, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
I practice this each and everyday myself.
This is a shot of the aluminum cans I save for cashing in at a later time.
I have a large box in my garage full of aluminum cans as well as this one.
I also recysle plastic etc with my regular garbage pickup.
Do you practice the 3 "R's"? at all?
Do you recycle and make sure to buy products made from recycled products?
Do you compst anything as well?
I have a compost pile and I compost a lot of paper products this way as well.

We do a lot of recycling AGB - everything from paper to glass, recyclable plastic and cans. We don't get anything for the cans but I think that our council who collect the recycling items do! Niamh likes to 'reuse'things - she doesn't even like throwing out shoes with a hole in them , she tries to think of something to 'make' with them instead! lol xxx

I never have enough cans to pay me to recycle so I save them up and give them to the fire department who gives them to the Shriners to help children who are burn victims.
I reuse everything I can. When socks wear out I use them for rags, etc. I even use guitar strings that break--I make jewelry out of the ball ends and the strings themselves I use as picture hangers, to hold tomatoes to stakes, stuff like that. If I can't use something anymore I'll recycle it!

Good deal.
I've been saving cans for about 5 months now.
I might have about $10 or $15 worth I think is all.
You're a recycling goddess!

I usually have the bottles, plastic containers and cans together and sell them on junk shops. I also do that for papers and cartons. I don't compost though. I have a small house and a small area outside my house that I cannot do such so I just sell out my junks. I am not very in to buying recycled products. I just buy what I can afford and don't buy much anyways. So mostly we just buy food.

yup, we sure do. although we are not paid for recycling cans (what a great gig) we are only allowed to put out 2 bags of garbage per household which isnt that great, so anyways, i recycle everything that isnt garbage (we have a green bin for food scraps etc which they take as well.)

They have centers where they will weigh and pay for aluminum etc ecycleables here in Minnesota. But for the most part they get placed in a seperate can and the garbage man picks them up 2 times a month.

I save all of the cans to pawn off, and I recycle as much as possible! My mom, however, is addicted to printing things off, and wasting paper... uggh! I can't stop her!

I recycle as much as I possibly can, even clothes and household items. I go on freecycle and criagslist to give away things I no longer need or use. Cans we do not get paid for, our community has a recycle program and picks that all up. It saves on our garbage costs.

I need my wife to do this with all the clothes she has that she never wears anymore. Our closets are filled with unused clothing just taking up space.

I have a recycling bin and I put it out every other week (when they collect them.)
We also save soda cans for the roomie's dad, and take them to him ever so often.
I don't compost, because I don't garden, but when I can, I put it down the garbage desposer, because even tho it costs a bit to get it out of the waste water, they'd do it anyway and then the city composts it and sells it.

My son gets the aluminum cans and he gets the money when they get brought in. Right now he has 3 big black trash bags full of them here and there is at least one at my sisters house for him. I need to get them in soon so there is room in my car for all of them.

Yes I buy, where possible, products using recyclable materials and then I dispose of them in the proper way or re-use myself when I can.
Aluminium is collected seperately here (inItaly) but we are not paid for it (or anything else for that matter). Is there any way that I can re-use it at home?

Hi Grandpa BOB
I think it is really great that you are using the 3 R's nicely but I am quite sorry to say that I do not follow the same on very active basis. For few things like stationary and all I am quite particular to use it judiciely so that the poor trees are being saved but for other things I am not very active. Wil surely take care from now!!

I have been trying to do my part by saving bottles and cans that have deposits on them and turning them in. When I see one in the trash I retrieve it and take it home.
Our trash collector gave us a bin to put our recyclables in. We save cans, bottles, plastic, cardboard, magazines, newspapers, etc. We also have a compost pile in our back yard. Hubby worries that it will attract wildlife so he really doesn't keep up with it as much as I do.

I try to live my the RRR rule. Instead of buying and using so many plastic bags I use plastic storage containers. I cleaned out my cupboards and found the lids and their containers they go to. When I do the dishes the lids go back on the container and then it goes in the cupboard with the lid on. I know it does waist space but I know where the lid is at all times.
I try not to use so many paper towels and napkins. We use kitchen towels for napkins and use them several times before they go in the wash. We usually eat in the front room so we keep them folded up on the end table.
My hubby collects bottles and cans to recycle he even will pick bottles and cans of the street when she go for walks or he will pick them out of the trash at his second job at the college.
I hang my clothes out on the clothes like when I can, Today it was nice enough to dry one load of laundry. That way I did not have to pay PG&E for the power.
I turn off my computer when I am not using it. I have also been unplugging appliance when not in use. I believe every little thing helps.

The only thing I recycle are aluminum cans, if I have enough saved up, I'll trade them in for cash, but if I only have a couple bags, I donate them to the kids program here in our town, they have a big trailer where you can put your bags of cans in, and the money goes to help the kids. I try to buy recycled things when I can. I don't compost anything, we don't garden anymore, so I don't need to.

Do they give you money for recycling cans where you are? We don't here, but are still expected to do it. I bet a lot more people would recycle if they got something for it. I believe in recycling anyway, but very often I get lazy about it. For example, I've given up on recycling newspaper since it has to be tied up into specific-sized individual bundles. I did it for awhile; now I throw them in the garbage instead.
(I don't buy too many anyway since the price of newspapers has gone up ridiculously in the last year or two).
I usually recycle cans, bottles, and plastics, unless I don't feel like dumping out anything still in it. We also have a bunch of stupid rules about taking off labels and such that no one follows, so who knows if anything actually GETS recycled once it goes in the bins? Basically, I TRY to recycle but sometimes I am too lazy.
