I made 3 cards yesterday

I had gotten some card making stuff at Walmart over the weekend, and then the roomie reminded me she needed a sympathy card for a friend.
Well, I went looking online for a pix I liked and found it in the form of a brown card with black leaves on it.
So, I took that as my format - after a fashion.
What I had gotten was glitter stuff, but I did have some colored inks as well.
so, I took this glitter called "Brownstone" and stamped leaves on about 1/3 of the card after I had carefully written my message out in a nice hand on the rest of the front. Then I wrote another note inside.
I made 2 cards like that, because she needed one for her friend who's mother died and I needed one for a doctor who's father died.
I also made one very simple, with the message spelled out in the glitter for her friend who is totally blind and who's brother died recently.
And NOW I have GLITTER EVERY WHERE!!!!
So, do you find you end up with a big mess when you craft? Have you ever done cards like I did? Do you find yourself looking online for ideas like I did? Or are you smart enough to be able to do these things yourself?
I could've done a birthday card, but a sympathy card was harder for me.

I can see sympathy cards being much moredifficult but it seems as though you have done a fantastic job! I don't really do card making myself but my daughter Niamh (7) tries. Glitter everywhere is a very familiar term to me - I have lost count of the number of times that Daddy has gone off to work absolutely covered in pretty pink and purple glitter! lol xxxx

Glad to see you got the stuff out of the bag. lol. It sounds like your cards turned out very nice. I used to use glitter in some of my scrapbook layouts, but no I am hooked on stickles, which gives the glitter affect but not the mess. When I did use glitter, I would find 'sparkles' on things for days lol. For the most part I come up with my own ideas but when I'm stuck I check online for ideas.

Card making is a little different than scrapbook layouts.

Elic,
It sounds like you did a very nice job on the cards. I use to play with a lot of glitter when I was a kid. My grandmother used it in a lot of her crafts. I remember it getting everywhere and how she was always afraid that I was going to get it in my eyes. Back then there wasn't the small easy to use vacs that we have now. We would end up pulling out the big Hoover, with all the attachments, and Hoover up every nook and corner of the dinning room where she did her crafts.
I've never done cards like the ones that you did such an excellant job on. Just the kiddie style ones when I was a kid for Christmas.

I used to do crafts all the time and I wind up with a big mess. But then I learned to use a sysytem. The glitter things would be done over an aluminum tray so the glitter would be confided and then I could reuse what was left.

I love making cards... it's a very soothing pastime, and yes, that glitter always gets everywhere and will be around in fragments for a while to come yet, my friend.
I like to make pagan cards sometimes and I look online, not for the design, but for pictures I can print off to use for decoupage. They're very effective and quite original when finished. Other than that, I have a heap of different stuff for cards, some of which I've bought and some I've cut from old cards I've received. Recycling is always good to my mind!
Brightest Blessings my friend... your cards sound lovely.

I like to make cards and send it to my family and friends but I lack that artistic talent. Eversince I was in the grade school, my drawings and artworks were a pity. Even my colorwheel was a disaster. LOL

Elic- It sounds like you made some beautiful cards! I have never tried making cards for anyone other my hubby, who loves cards with pictures of our sons. When I need a card I either buy a handmade card online (when I remember to do so a few weeks ahead of time)or just buy one at WalMart or the Dollar store.

That's pretty much my normal MO too, but I wanted to make something a bit more special, that obviously took some work.
Mind you, I wasn't brave enough to go into the doctor's office when I was in the building this morning, but the other folks sent emails or called saying they got theirs.

That sounds like something I would do. I can rarely make anything without making a mess. I think the glitter thing sounds like something I would have a problem with. I havent tried making greeting cards recently but I might try it. I have had stamps with hearts on that I have put on valentines cards but not all that often.

Some of my best days have been spent in reception classes in the run up to Christmas... everything gets covered in glue and glitter and I LOVE it!! I have boxes and boxes of craft type materials at home and I've made far more cards than I could use so I've passed them on to a local charity. I go through 'creative' phases when I make a variety because its much harder to think up a design for a specific occasion when its imminent.

I have made invitations beore but not cards like you are. It's a neat hobby. I am very messy with my painting hobby. I usually always get paint on me somewhere..especially my face. I do projects with my girls sometimes and they love glitter so afterwards there is glitter showing up here and there for months..lol

Yes, yes I do! I used to make cards and evelopes for no reason when I was small, not that young but still pretty young, I was allowed to use glitter at that time, but I didn't, because I thought that too many art stuff would spoil my work, I could not have decided which art tool to go with and would have found myself making a very ugly card with every tool I had, whether it may be pencils, glitter, or markers. That's why I stopped making overdone art projects and used something simpler, something you could decide to go with and could do anything you wanted to, colour pencils! L.O.L

Gosh, they sound flamin' awesome! I wish I could do stuff like that...I would need simple, in words of one syllable instructions. When I do have a go the idea doesn't work or it just comes out wrong. I really am not adept at such things...how unfair is that when I have the curiosity, enthusiasm and motivation but no skills. Carp that's annoying.

I think a sympathy card is always harder.
I have a brother with a 60 IQ and I looked for a craft we could do together. I had pine cones already, yarn pieces already, so all I needed was glue and glitter. Back then, there wasn't any glitter glue. So I had him put glue on the pine cones and sprinkle glue on them. Toward the end, we had so much glue on the table that he just started rolling the cones in the glitter after he put on the glue. He tried different ways of rolling them. He had fun. After a few he became bored. I came back another day after they had dried and we tied the yarn around them. The work bench was very glittery, even though we had started the project in a box on top of my car. The box was a mess, but since it wasn't corregated/recyclable in my area, I could throw it away. The workbench just caught everything that didn't glue on. We tied up three pinecones in yarn and made a bow. Then he could give them to anyone who gave him a present for X-mas. He was in his late 30s or early 40s at the time, but he'll always have a mental age of around 12.
Sounds like the cards turned out beautiful. I have some blank cards, I should try making some things, too. Thanks and take care

I make the majority of the cards my family sends, but often I'll make the same design over and over as the recipients are unlikely to compare notes. Unfortunately, when I do see a clever or ingenious design, I've likely forgotton it again by the time I come to make my next batch of cards.

Well, I did basically the same design on the two with the picture, the last I just used the same quote but spelled it out in glitter because she wouldn't appreciate the picture as much as the thought of being able to feel the words.
Sorry, if I couldda done it in braille I wouldda, but I didn't have that option.
