forgetting stuff

March 5, 2009 5:18am CST
I just got back from the shop, its only a 5 minute walk, I went to get some matches. I need them for a jewellery project I am working on. I came back with a box of crackers, a bag of sugar, a chocolate orange and some corned beef. No matches. DO you forget things when you shop? Do you forget things generally? What was the last thing you forgot to get?

Hello 3cardmonte! That's one of my problem too. I remember going to the supermarket to buy some foods and stuffs. I have bought everything, even unnecessary things just in case. When I arrived at home and check everything I bought, I found out that I forgot to buy the most important thing that I might use that day. It happened most of the time to me that's why, I am really very careful now and lists all those things that I need.

The last shopping trip I forgot to get the "Super glue". Wife needed it for something and it was the token item to be forgotten. I try to use a list and check it when I hit the last isle in the store. Then if I miss something I go back for it.

thats the best way :)

Yes, I do and more often it’s a rather small yet necessary item which I should have remembered. The last time this happened was with a packet of the humble salt. Well, the existing packet was nearing its end and I was keeping on telling myself that in next month’s grocery list, I’ll have to put a packet of salt. As you can guess, I forgot completely…I remembered only later when I was pouring the last remnants of the packet into the salt jar…well that weekend, I went to the grocery store SPECIFICALLY to buy a packet of salt…can you believe it that I came back with five other things except that SALT?! Finally, I had to call hubby and brought it along while returning home from office.

Forget things...huh...what was this discussion about? LOL! Course, I forget things, I have reached that milestone in life where I even LIKE to forget my age! But having said that, I think what is even worse, is making a list of the things you need at the local Corner Store....arrive, dig into your pocket, and realize you forgot the list...NOW on with the mental gymnastics...did I need...do I need, and then you arrive home, with everything you didn't need, right now...and the things that were pertinent...not with you! Now, decision times, you have rescued the list, it's in your pocket...is it worth it to go back! Nah, wait til tomorrow, tomorrow comes~~~~and what coat pocket did you leave the list in? Cheers!

Sure would like a cuppa tea...but forgot where I put the percolator! Oh, no, the percolator is what you use for that other brown stuff...I put tea in the one with the spout...don't I? And is tea the one that you add the spirits to?

For me lately it has been forgetting to bring my money with me when I go out to get things. I normally realize it before I get to the store, but last week I got to the store, got my stuff, and was in the check out line when I realized it. I had to go back home and get my money.

Ohh God ! my memory is soo bad I can't remember squat ! nada! I have a friend that is the same way , and we make fun of it all the time . My husband picks on me for it , he has no trouble remembering things . I can't remember from day to day what is going on . Since we are retired it has gotten worse. Half of the time I don't know what day it is . I was taking Gingko for memory , but most of the time I forgot to take it , so that didn't help . If I want to remember things I have to write them down , else it goes in one ear and out the other . Yup I got it bad ..

Welcome to old age . I forget things all the time at the store, so I try to make a list before going. The only problem is, you have no idea how many times I've left the list on the table. Then I'm left to walk around the store trying to 'visualise' the list so I don't forget something important. Was teasing about old age. It's more a matter of having your mind going in several directions all at once.

50 doesnt seem so bad! 50 is the new 30, so does that mean that 60 is the new 40, 40 is the new 20, how old am I again?

It's funny. Most people spend their teen years waiting to be of age. And it seems to take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get there. Once you arrive, time speeds up. You'll see. Suddenly you'll be 50 like me.

I think it is really sad that you tend to forget the thingd this frequently. I do not come across such a severe problem but there are a few problems persisting on the same lines. I do forget a few things when I go out for shopping but not the entire lidt. You can always make a list of things and then leave for shopping.

I do make a list, but I often seem to forget to put something on the list.

I think we have all experienced this. I know I have on more than one occasion. I believe the last thing that I forgot to buy was packing tape. I needed to send a package the next day and I needed packing tape. I got several other things in the store and forgot the one item I came in for in the first place. I guess this is just the way of the world lol. Most of the time, I make a list when I go to the store. Even if it is only for a few items. This way, I do not forget the things I came in to buy. Now if only I could remember to put everything I needed onto the list lol.

I know! I always forget to put something on the list too!

I dont usually forget anything when I shop, this is mainly because I only go for what I want. If I need or want more than one thing, I make a list. Then when I enter the store I only get what is on my list.

thats good, I sometimes stray from the list.

yes, i also forget little things and even the main ones that were the reasons why i shopped in the first place. those displays can really get you off track. that's why now i always have a list with me when i shop. however, with other things i'm not that bad in remembering.

thats okay then!

I do that quite often. Even if i do make a list I usually forget to put thinkgs on the list. The things I forget are usually things I have been saying that I need for awhile, and I never remember when I'm shopping, it's usually right when I get back home or something like that.

yeah, me too!

sometimes i forget about things that i go to shop for . last time i forgot to buy a study book since i spent most time in shopping other stuffs & then after i went home i realized the thing i wanted is not with me . so next time around i prepare a list or make a note in my mobile of things to shop . a much better way , isn't it?

I do forget things at the store, if I don't make a list. I have come to learn to keep a tablet and jot down things I need for the next trip to the store. I hate getting back home without things. And it saves on time and money if I have my list with me. I usually keep it by my purse, so I can grab it on my way out the door.
5 Mar 09
thats a good idea, keeping it by or in your purse.

Sometimes i do forgot too some things also when we go at grocery or something i need to bedroom to get something and when i came back I never get the important things i needed. Now when i go at store I always make sure i write down in piece paper the most important things i needed to buy so less to forgot and less also to buy the things that we don't needed too.
5 Mar 09
thats true, if you have a list you tend to stick to it.

Use a shopping list. If there are more than two or three items I need I will forget. If you are only going for a couple of items you can write them on your palm. I do this all the time because it is easier to read your palm and it washes off in a few hours.

but then I forget the list!

I do this ALL the time. It's not a fun thing. Especially since we live 16 miles out in the country. Going back is not an option!! We just gotta wait till the next run. I almost never forget when I write them down on a piece of paper. Except I forget to take the paper! But I can visualize it and remember most then. The last thing was eggs. Of course the next week it backfired big time. I remembered then, and so did my husband and my daughter... I think I have to make deviled eggs now, or something... The fridge is full of eggs.
