Have you ever tea stained any fabric? I am going to tea stain some fabric to use for quilting and embroidering to give it that antiqued look. I want to do some quilt samplers with sayings on them but don't want the stark white background so I think tea staining it will be perfect.

The only time I've ever tea-stained something was when I accidentally spilled tea on a qhite dress. LOL the dang stain wouldn't come out for anything, so my mother dyed the dress a really nice light blue colour. It covered the tea stain very nicely. I guess that answers a future question "will it come out?" LOL

I have tea stained fabrics for some costuming at one time. I also experimented with coffee stain, because I read it somewhere, but I like the tea stain look much better. I think you have some really neat ideas.

I have tea stained fabric. It did well and did "age" the fabric if you have the right type of fabric. Muslin works well

I have done it a long time ago....you just steep your tea (how many bags depends on how dark you want it) then soak your material..usually a cotton is best!

Sounds like a great idea. I've heard of tea staining before but I haven't had a chance to do it. I find I don't have enough hours in the day to do everything I want to do.

You could use leaves too. I have used them to stain or dye my hair before and they really work quite well. I have heard of tea and have used it to tan with in years past for nothing else. I am just saying that if the tea isn't quite what you are looking for after all you might give the leaves a try. I used maple and they seemed dark brown but I let it steap along time. Good luck!

I've stained some cotton scarves with tea, which worked well in covering the tiny stains which I was trying to hide. I was looking for a darker shade though, and was disappointed that I couldn't achieve it regardless of the strength of solution or the number of immersions.
