I have known several ppl over the years that have no concept of how to walk. They walk like their stomping down Tokyo. One was a foster kid we used to have and a couple others are in my family. They stomp so hard across the floor that shelves shake, furniture bounces and your terrified their going to go right through the floor. You tell them to walk gently…they say “I am”!! It’s even worse when their mad…then they really stomp. Do you know ppl that stomp when they walk? Have you ever had anything broken b/c someone was stomping through the room? That is my skinny husband. My daughter, who lives downstairs in our basement with her daughter, tells this to my husband all of the time. I outweigh him by 30 lbs and she never hears me walk. He hates being told that he walks heavy. He also plops in furniture enough to make it shift.

Makes you wonder where they get the weight at to make such a loud stomp. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

It's not weight but force that makes a stomp.

Absolutely!! I had a friend in dance, who was on the heavy side. She was the lightest dancer I had ever seen. I weigh a lot more than I did when I was younger but I am not a heavy walker, more than when I was thin.

yes I knew several people mostly men the lived above me and can you imagine the pounding on the ceiling. I had a border here once a wee little bit of a girl and she walked like that, I once said to her for a tiny girl you walk like a gorilla, she laughed but never stopped.

I've never seen a tiny person make the stomp but I'd have to think they'd have to work at it since they don't weigh much to begin with. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

No one stomps here but my brother in law shuffles his feet, guess that's OK he's 78. We have a nurse at our hospital, she's not a real big person, I'd class her as normal weight but when she's doing her rounds you always know which nurse is comming. I swear her nurses shoes must weigh 200 pounds. She walks very heavy.

I guess I can think of a few people who walk forcefully. They are usually in a hurry to get somewhere. You would think, though, that walking that way takes more energy than walking lightly and quickly.

We called the foster girl that too...and for just that reason. I still call her that when I talk to her and want to tease her. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~**STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

I know what you mean, it drives me nuts. One of my sons is like that and when he visits he loves to stomp in the kitchen and hear everything rattle! I don't know why people do that, you'd think they would want to walk softly. There's such a lack of consideration for others these days.

I was caught by your interesting phrase. I never heard of "stomping down Tokyo". I have an old house, and if people here stomped things would fall down. I am lucky that no one walks that way here. Some of my clients have interesting gaits to their walk, and yes, I have heard people stomp around when they are angry.

Reminds me of Grade Five... Mr Littlejohn was so annoyed with us stomping like a herd of elephants that he gave us walking lessons... taught us how to roll off the balls of our feet, etc. And then, with the renovations in the unit next door this past year, I took the mirror off the wall because I was afraid it would fall off with the workers running up and down the stairs in their cement boots and lead feet, if you know what I mean...

I know people like this, but I have not had anything broke. I feel people like this is not sensetive to their surrounding. They were let to do this all their life, and do not see the wrong in it.

LOL, yes I do! My neighbor upstairs. There is no carpet on the wooden floors. He is the only one living there yet it sounds like he is on a day hike in boots! Then sounds like he crashes over rocks or dragging something. Very bothersome. The funny thing is the other person before this guy got put out for repeated noise complaints.

Hi twoey68, I used to stomp when I was a teenager and my mother used to say that I walk like and elephant but I don't any more. Tamara

I've met people like this too. I don't know why they stomp instead of walking like a normal person. It seems that people with emotional issues tend to do it much more than people who are balanced.

Funny you should say this at the moment as my husband has had to take our son to the wooden stairs and show him how to walk, upstairs with out bringing the ceiling in the cupboard under the stairs down.It is a small house with all floorboards and wood and even when he thinks he is walking normally he sounds like a herd of elephants. My husband nearly blew a gasket the other day and I think our son has got the message.I had to go outside for a laugh it was so funny. My husband went bright red and blew up our son looked really surprised and shocked,he got through at last.We hope.xx

There are about three stompers in my house. I always ask if they're secretly related to big foot and if they can't control they walk, but all I get is more stomping in response. Worse is the fact that the computer's downstairs and the bedrooms and kitchen is upstairs. So when I'm upstairs, I always know who's walking or coming/going to a room. I can tell the difference between the steps. I guess I have developed an unnecessary extra ability thanks to them. It might be useful if I decide to became a spy someday. Who knows where that may lead?

My little brother. Guh. The floor bounces, the furniture vibrates, the cats get all freaked out. Guh. My Dad's similar but not as bad. Nobody's broken anything by stomping, but my Mom and I fuss at them often enough about it.

Do I know people that stomp when they walk? Yes! I had a neighbor, thank God she's gone now, that was about a buck'o'five that stomped the hallway as she went from end to end. I hated to hear her coming, ugh. I couldn't believe as small as this woman was she sounded like an elephant walking along the hallway. It was awful. I wanted to say something to her so bad but I wanted to keep the peace at the same time. She and her family eventually MOVED OUT! Thank God above. I am so glad they moved. I wanted to celebrate when I found out that they were leaving.

I have a horrible feeling I might be a stomper. Even though I try to walk quietly and lightly, I seem to make a loud noise as I walk through the house - and I wear holes in the front of my shoes really quickly. My family is amazed at how I go through the soles of my shoes. Not sure what to do about it - it's a weird problem!
