This morning I was having coffee on my deck and our dog was barking at something out beside the fence. We have a small farm at the back of our property and they keep goats. Maggie our Australian Shepard was out there barking as she usually does when they come close to the fence but her barking had a different sound and the goats were not close to the fence. So I decided to see what she was barking at. Just before I got close enough to see she grabbed a snake and shook it so it was banged into the shed. She shook it until it's insides flew out. Now looking at the insides it looks like the snake was getting ready to lay some little snake eggs under our shed. I'm sure glad she found and killed the snake before it laid those eggs. We had another snake crawl into the yard about 3 months ago but my granddaughter killed that one. Maggie had alerted us to that one too. She's a good dog.

Oh my. I hate snakes and it is getting that time of the year for them again. We had one in our back yard too and my little Pomeranian was barking at it also. My husband killed it. We had a huge one climb one of our trees also and it was after some bird eggs. We killed that one too.

Aren't dogs, truly our best friends! My dog, "Oeuf" that passed three years this July was just like Maggie! I had this inordinate fear of snakes, not because I was afraid of what they would do...but they have such a startle effect! We have lots of garden snakes here...I would reach under a bush to weed, and come out with a snake in hand...a blood curdling scream, drop and run! Or move a rock, and there was one...."oeuf" would always ferret out the area where I was going to work and destroy them! I know that they are beneficial...but I just can't get over how they startle me! As "Oeuf" has crossed the rainbow bridge, I still think of him, whenever I am gardening! Are your snakes poisonous....and give "Maggie" a pat for me! Cheers!

Wow! deebomb....thank you, once again! This means more than an "atta girl" so I feel like Maggie and I are sharing good deeds! I truly thank you for sharing your delightful Maggie stories with us, as I so love dogs and cats (and all Mother Nature's children....in FURRY coats) notice slithery, hissy things NOT included!LOL! Now that spring is sorta nudging it's way into the weather here, I have noticed an exceptional amount of snakes, snails, slugs...ants & flies! We had an unusually cold, long winter...and I am truly surprised at the abundance! I would have thot the many freezing days we had would have had a detrimental effect on them! For the first time, ever, I have ants in my house....I guess spring being so late, they are unusually hungry....so I have taken a jar of jam to their nest in hopes that they will feast there, instead of inside my house! Have a tremendous day...and thank you! Cheers!

Did you give her a reward? If that snake had laid eggs there would have been all kinds of little snakes running around. Makes me shiver just to think of it. It sounds like she is a wonderful dog. You can rest easy when she is around. She has proven twice that she will let you know when a snake is around.

Your dog is so good. And you are lucky because he always catch or see snakes. But of course you should always check your surroundings to because we can't predict danger and we should always remember that prevention is better than cure. I am happy because I and my husband live in an apartment there is no snake here. I have snake phobia and I do not want to see one.

It is unusual to see any snakes around the yard here. But then as with every thing it can and has changed. I really don't mind them if I can see them but really don't want them in the yard either. so glad she found it before it could lay her eggs. There would be all these baby snakes one couldn't see but think they were worms.
