how do you figure if you got the right size? i have this thrift store i love and they do not have dressing rooms to try things on. of course them being a thrift store you cant return anything! i am known for not being able to look and know if its my size or not.. i will think something is my size and it end up being way too big or way too small lol..
so how do you figure if its your size or not? do you take a measuring tape? hold it up to you? hope the size is the same as the size your used to buying? (although i have yet to find 2 clothing brands that use the same sizing it seems!) or just pass since its a hassle?
i took a measuring tape this last time but the sleeves were still too short when i got it home

Yes, I'm also really bad at estimating if something will fit. Especially because in my mind I'm still the same size as I was before I had my daughter, lol! It annoys me when I can't try things on, sometimes I just don't buy things that I might've done had I been able to try them first.
And I hear what you're saying about clothing brands all coming up differently. I experienced this recently when trying to buy underwear. I always buy my underwear from the same supermarket so I know my size really well - or so I thought! This time, the supermarket only had the bigger sizes and for some reason didn't have anything that wouldn't fall down around my ankles
, so I went to another shop in town and bought the same size. Only they fit so badly I'm not going to be able to wear them.
I hope you find something that fits!

Wow. Out here you'd never have that problem. Being slim is apparently the best thing for clothing out here, they've even got stores that only carry size 00, 0, and 1!
Myself, I am no where near those sizes. But with my frame size I'd probably look awfully freaky if I was.
I do sometimes have to have pants hemmed, but thankfully a lot of people in my family can sew (not me though!). One of my friends is really really short and has to have anything hemmed and it costs her $8 for each pair of pants or a skirt. So luckily for me I don't have to pay that.

In tops, I generally always wear the same size. But if it looks too small, I'll hold it up and see.
I won't usually risk shopping like this unless it is a very cheap place or something. Or like the time I went to a store that was closing and the first time everything was $5. I got one pair of pants that didn't fit. Next time I went everything was $3 and I got 2 more of that style of pants since I liked them so much, and one of those fit. But I also go a bunch of other stuff and I felt like due to the extremely low prices it was worth the risk and I could just donate anything that didn't fit me.

Oh wow, that is really cool! I've never heard of a thrift store that does that. The ones out here charge $8 or more just for a pair of work pants. I won't buy my black pants there since they're usually already worn out since people wear black pants the most apparently. But I bought a nice pair of grey pants at the thrift store and they're one of my favorites. Although that store does let you try stuff on.
My cousins are much better at thrift store shopping than I am. I'm a better bargain hunter at clearance racks. At the thrift store I'll end up with stuff that is ripped somewhere or stained and I hadn't noticed before. Usually on clearance racks that isn't a problem, although it has been a few times too especially at that $3 store closing sale... I got quite a few ripped shirts there and pants with some type of oil or grease stain near the bottom.

this place was a thrift store that weighed your clothes.. so like it was $1.39 a lb so everything was really cheap since i was buying things that werent jeans so i figure it was so cheap it wouldnt be a huge loss.. but if it was a regular thrift store and something 8 bucks or something i wouldnt have

this was a goodwill outlet store.. it is at a new location.. the old location had changing rooms but this one didnt.. im wondering if maybe they will add them or since its the outlet store they wont bother (outlet store everything is sold dirt cheap and weighed and only gets to that store by not being sold at the others after X amount of time)

Personally if a thirft store does not have a changing room. Than I would not buy any clothes there. As I am a heavier set woman and have ran in to that problem. I don't have money to waste. So, I would find another thirft store that does have changing room.

i would have but i couldnt pass up clothes being sold by the weight and only $1.39 a pound!! i got 21 pieces of clothes, 2 books (one being text book size) and 5 things of yarn for 16 bucks.. so i figured it wouldnt be too much money wasted.. god knows i dont have the money to waste either

well unless i was totally sure it would fit, i wouldnt buy it. this would cut down on the store's revenue to be sure. if it is something that i think will fit, i generally just put it against myself and if it covers hipbone to hipbone, then i am pretty sure it will fit.

In the uk if a shop sells clothing items but does not provide fitting rooms or somehwere suitable for you to try clothes on at the time of pruchase by law they are required to accept returns within a reasonable timescale so long as the item is unworn (excpet for trying on) and the labels are still attached. Bascially i've never had this worry, i've always known that i can take an item back if i'm not able to try it on. In fact in the uk almost all stores have a returns policy so you can buy an item without trying it on even if they do have a changing room. I've yet to go in a 'thrift' store (we call them charity shops, second hand stores or vintage clothing stores) that does not have a changing room!

I would probably go there wearing a little tank and maybe shorts. This way I could slip on the cloting over my clothes to see if they are going to fit. I am really bad at holding up clothes and being able to tell if they will fit me.

If you buy the same label clothes always only then you will get the same size. Or else each manufacturer has their own measurements which they follow. I usually hold the clothes to myself and measure it accordingly. Very rarely do I try in on in the shop. Of late I have been buying from one shop which sells very good quality clothes and I always get the same size!!!! Or else get them stitched.
