Yes, I do, sometimes, and I think used books are just nice books too. As long as the contents are great to read, I don't mind at all. I love book fairs whereby I could get such awesome deals and can spend hours reading. However, recently, I've not been reading much books. Since my last novel that I've read, I've been reading online since. Must buck up more, because I must admit that I kinda miss the traditional reading idea. Good discussion here..

Sometimes walking into an antiquary store makes me spend more than I would do in a normal store. That's just because finding so many good books, some of them in great shape, at such low prices it's as pleasuring as a child entering a candy store.

Yes I do buy used books in person. Haven't been purchasing things online lately since I don't have a credit card. I believe that books are investments. They bear knowledge of the fundamental kinds. Even non fiction books are great since the stories are classics and you can learn something from them.

Hi ladym, I buy a lot of second hand and used books. We have a circulating library near where I live and every year they have an annual sale where they keep some of their own books and others bring their own books in good condition and the price is very affordable. I have been buying a few books from there every year. I also buy from some book sellers who sell on the pavements and have managed to get some of the best books for an absolutely low price...

I love books, and I often buy used books, either online or in person. I prefer to see what I'm buying, but I've bought several out of print books online, and I find that if I buy through Amazon and the seller says the book is in good condition, it invariably is. I live in Spain, and books are quite expensive, so we have a lot of book exchanges here. You can buy a book for 2 euros, or you can take in a book you've read and exchange it for another book for 1 euro. There are a group of about 6 of us with similar reading tastes, so we pass our books around. The last one to receive a book exchanges it for a new one and the system starts again. In this way, we each get to read 5 or 6 books for only 1 euro. You can't get much more frugal than that, and we also have the fun of discussing the books we've read.

Amazon is great and I also buy at the Kiwanis club thrift store. Sometimes they even have a buggie full of free books. We also have a great store here that has a buy, sell, trade books. Great because you can trade for your reading habit!

I have bought used books at garage sales and Goodwill/St Vincents for years. I would rather buy them in person because I can be a better judge of the quaility of the books. If I am searching for books in a series or by a certain author, I have purchased them on Ebay. I have had great luck with the books I have purchased online. They are a little more expensive this way but I can find a missing book in a series a lot easier this way. My local St Vincents does a bag sale about 4 times a year. I usually can get almost 50 paperbacks in a brown paper bag for $3.00. I when I have 75 book read, I sell them on ebay for about $4.00 a box full. I try to pass on the savings I have had to others. New books are really nice but way too expensive. I read quite a bit so there is no way I could $7.95 and more for a paperback book I will read in a couple of days.

I have thousands of books, I'm not too picky about where I get them, I've bought them used online, at Goodwill, Half Price and other used books stores, I've gotten them at garage sales and even free.

I like to buy used books in person because that way I can see the condition they are in. I like to buy them used because you really do save a lot of money that way but I also want the book to be in good condition. There are some really good second hand book stores where I live so I'm lucky that way.

Yup, now that I think about it, I mainly do buy used over new books. I only get new ones if it is a gift to someone, a big sale, or if a new release, esp. if it is friend's book that came out (no matter how recent or long ago). ;o) But I, blush blush, am way behind on keeping up with reading. Personally, also I don't like opening a new, fresh, perfect book, and being the one to put creases and lines in it. Ha ha, seems to perfect and hate to be the one who 'inures' it in a way. No longer fresh and crisp. And reading used ones, they are much easier to read as they are more flexible, stay open better, and you don't have to worry about soiling it much. ;o)

I do buy used books but I usually only buy kids books or cook books. Salvation Army is .30 for kids books (Can't beat that!). Otherwise I get them from rummage sales. I don't buy much online, as by the time I pay for the shipping it's not worth it to me IMO.

I do buy used books if I can find a good price and they look fairly good. I also sell my used books online. I think that paying full price for a book is pretty silly because there are so many places that you can get it for a discount. Although, I do really love going to Barnes & Nobles and browsing around. I usually end up buying something too. I do love books!

I used to buy used books at a used book store in person. But, I have not brought books in quite awhile now. For awhile I wasn't reading as much as I used to. I started sending more time on the computer than reading. A friend of my online sent me alot of used books so now I have plenty of books to keep me busy reading for awhile now.

I purchase used books in person mainly unless it is a book I already know about and want to replace or have already seen it and want to pay less for it. In this recession, I have to pinch pennies but I love to read.

I've got some really good books in charity shops second hand, these kinds of shops are great for old craft books people have got rid of and craft books are normally really expensive new. I've bought some really good fiction books in charity shops too that I probably wouldn't have bought if they were new and full price.

Yes, I do buy used books. I love visiting the used books stores in my area and I sometimes find really good deals. I also like to buy used books from amazon.com and half.com is a great place to buy very affordable used books at also. Me and my hubby have been collecting books together since the early 90's and were running out of bookshelf space to store them all.

Hi Ladym33, most of my novels are used books. New books are so expensive, so used books help me save a lot. I prefer to shop in person, getting to feel and flip the pages, rather than buy online.

Yes, I use second hand books all the time! I usually buy them from a small bookstore near my college. There, they sell new books and used ones as well. For college, I'm required to buy lots of reference books. Some I can't afford and I also think they're not worth buying. One main reason is because the books are used for only one particular semester. So yeah, I buy second hand books. There's no much difference. Probably physically yes, but they still contain the same and they're still useful. The best part is they're a lot cheaper ;)

Oh so many times I have purchased the used books its a habit with me, I feel they dont loose upon quality of education if purchased at discounted prices!
