Do you have short term disability insurance or long term?

An illness or injury that puts you out of commission for a certain amount of time can really harm you financially if you are unable to earn a salary while you are recovering, that is why it is wise to have both long term and short term disability insurance, some places of business have these for their employees. But some people have to pay for it outside of work, my husband's work provides long term, but not short term so we purchased our own,it is $30 a month. Do you have it either long, or short term?

We don't have either. I don't currently work and my husband's job advised against getting it. They said it is too expensive to be worthwhile. They told him that if he were to ever get too sick to work, that they would ask all of the employees in his school district to donate days to him. Apparently, they have done this in the past and it has worked. I thought it was very nice of them to do that, but I still worry about not having disability insurance. You never know what can happen!

You can actually get it on your own. We have a long term disability policy, that will pay off our mortgage if anything should happen where my husband could not work any more, it is only $12.95 per month. So if he ever becomes disabled we will not lose our home. An insurance broker found the plan for us.

Neither at this time. I understand from first hand experience how important this can be, but there is just not enough money for insurances right now. We had both with my first husband. Tied it in to when he got a raise. We knew we would not miss the money if we never saw it in the first place. In less than a year we needed the short term insurance.
