The President says if we do not enact health care reform this year, it will be an opportunity missed and we may never get it again. I am not talking about a huge govermentally run health insurance program... maybe large privatre coop's modeled aftrer elctric copperatives in rural areas. So... what do you think? Would missing this "opportunity " be a bad thing?

No, I wouldn't want the government telling me what kind of medicines I can have or what doctor to go to. It should be government ASSISTED health care ( for the poor ) not government RUN!

But, the bad thing is; government ASSISTED normally turns into government RUN.

Yea but at least there would still be options until the government took over. They're just trying to get their hands into too much.

Sounds like one of those TV commercials "order right now and you will receive this special bonus - HURRY and order NOW!" Everyone knows that a sales pitch that involves a deadline for deciding is a scam and you're being strong-armed into a (usually bad) decision. Did anyone ask him why we might not get the chance again? Is Congress going to leave Earth with the aliens? Is the government going to shut down while they clean the carpets? Does his horoscope say the stars going to realign in an unfavorable way? There's always time to enact health care reform, well there's a couple of years anyway. Then he will be out of office.

I don't have any problem missing this "opportunity" at all. Not one bit. I hope Congress gets into one huge fight over this and it gets delayed at least until next year. At least then we will have a better understanding of how the economy is doing, what the unemployment numbers are, and how effective the "stimulus" bill is.

Health care is my "issue". It's something that I feel very strongly about and I definitely feel there should be some sort of government assistance for EVERYONE (those who can afford it will pay for the help) when it comes to healthcare. However, I do not think the time is now. I think we need to wait until 2010 at a minimum. Like others have said, our economy is still on shaky ground. When it comes to spending more money we need to take things slow from here on out.

I'd be suspicious of anybody--Democrat, Republican, or some other party--who insists that any issue, in this case it happens to be health insurance, must be enacted right now. Obama wants this thing passed quickly and put into effect before Americans have the chance to really take a look at how this thing's going to affect them; in other words, they won't have any time to oppose the plan. That's the way Mr. Obama's been doing things since he's taken office, and I don't foresee him changing any time soon.
