What is it with rainy days??

I love the rain! I enjoy a good cloud burst, the thunder and the lightning. What is it about the rain that puts so many people on a downer? I can understand when it becomes a month long procession of rainy days but a few light rains are simplu wonderful to me. And quite afew at that. LOL. They make for plush and green vegetation and lawns. Does it depress us or were we already on our way down? Does it really hurt a hairdo or make our hair soft and sweet smelling? And, does it actually come down to which is it---is the glass half full or half empty? I am wondering.

I'm another one who loves rain and dark, overcast days, but I'd prefer it if there were more rainy days than sunny ones. I can't stand the sun, seriously. It's too...sunny and bright. I'm wondering where it is I could move that it's mostly rainy and cloudy all of the time. Any suggestions? :)

The Pacific Northwest! I'd say Seattle, but I THINK I've heard that Portland gets more rain than Seattle does. I'm not sure, though. Seattle gets a little too sunny and warm in the Summer, though. :( For me, anyway!

CE- I also love a good rain storm. I love to sit on my balcony and enjoy the cool air, and the listening to the pitter patter of raindrops on the trees around me. There is just something about watching mother nature at work that brings one a sense of calm and peace. It can be the most notorious of storms and I find it peaceful. I can't say I'd even been depressed if caught in it. There is something I suppose seductive about a woman who is brought to natural state by the winds and rain. That is at least how I look at it, as a woman. I don't get upset, I simply make the most of it, and it generally means a bit of extra attention from the husband. Namaste-Anora

I've never understood why people hate rainy days. I LOVE the rain, myself. I love lightning even more. I love to just go outside and watch it. And I just absolutely LOVE when it pours. I prefer cloudy and overcast days over the sunny days. I'm just much happier with rainy and overcast days than I am with sunny days. I moved from Southern California to the Seattle area about 2 1/2 years ago to get AWAY from the constant sunny (and hot) days. I even had a friend tell me that I'd get depressed and end up hating the cloudy weather. She obviously didn't know me very well, huh? LOL I've been here about 2 1/2 days and I'm still not sick of the overcast weather and still love just as much as ever!

Yes, I enjoy it too. I always enjoy trips to the coastal areas. I just don't mind it at all. Good to know I am not the only one.

Rainy days make me feel sad and depressed. My DSL won't work when it rains so I can't go online to watch movies. I always feel anxious when it rains. No reason, just do.

I do too! Kindred spirits. I get excited, wouldn't describe it as anxious though. Thanks.

Hey celtic! I happen to love thunder storms! I love thunder and lightning, but mostly when I'm inside watching from the window! But, lately it has been depressing me because the whole month of June and the last part of May that's all we have been getting is rainy days! It is getting ridiculous! And it is getting to everyone here in NYS! We have hardly had one full day of sunshine! And today is the first day of summer and it is barely 70 degrees and it is raining again! So, it is time for some warmer weather with so nice sunshine to pick up the spirits of everyone here! We are all rained out already!

Ya, I have to be inside too or I am too nervous and anxious to be excited with it at all. Alot of rainy days all over the country. It does tend to get old. All things in moderation and all that.

If I am in where it is safe, or sitting on my porch, the severe weather is invigorating. I do not mind it too much, if I have a day off. On the other hand, if I have lots of errands that involve other people who do not enjoy getting wet, it is a downer. When I need to work a lot online, I do not want to do it during a thunderstorm. Like right now, I have an article to finish, and we have storms moving into the area. We worked in the yard in a gentle rain this morning. There was no thunder or lightning, just gentle rain. It makes my hair soft, and rinses away sweat and grime from yard work. It makes my tomatoes grow. Some people do feel depressed due to the lack of sun. The electrical charges in the air may effect different people in different ways. I always heard that it was supposed to lift moods. Right now, the storm is moving into my county. I have five hundred words to research and write, and they say I have forty five minutes. I would rather answer your discussions. They have been great this afternoon.

Well, thank you. I have been in a mood today. I enjoy your writing in response to them- so there! Ha Gentle rains are nice when you are working in the yard. Yes, the lack of light I guess would be a factor in the depression side of it. Thanks.

If it stays gloomy and no rain it makes me sad but not really down. And I like it to rain when warm so me and gran ddaughter can dance in it. It rained family reunion out but still stayed out as grand daughter playyed in it the rain didnt stop her and my brother had put an awning up for me to set under

I normally don't mind the rain either, and when it's a very light rain or drizzle don't mind walking in the rain as long as it isn't a torrential downpour that gets one soaked to the skin in seconds....BUT...here where I am it's been raining, raining, raining almost non-stop for weeks...and yes have noticed my energy level completely sucks...LOL. I'm beginning to forget what the sun looks like--what DOES it look like anyway?

I agree. I remember one summer day several summers ago now. I watched from the window as in just a matter of just afew minutes we got an onslaught of rain like no other in the area for years. On the news later I saw what had happened out town. People were actually rafting down the streets and others were hanging on for dear life. It was quite a day! Sun? It is yellow and bright. Oh, and warm to as I recall. Haha

I like rain and sunshine equally! The view out of my bedroom window is amazing when it rains really heavily. I can see the heavy clouds, and can sometimes see the stream overflowing with water running down the hillside. So I love the rain for that reason. But, I also love the sunshine, because then I see animals, lambs & horses mainly, on the hillside drinking from the stream, which is just as lovely! So I don't have a preference really, I appreciate both extremes, and very much like them both!

I love the rain but I can't blame some of my friends who hate it. There are areas in our country that's prone to flooding although it only rains for 5 minutes. They get isolated from the city. For some its way too much... farmers love the rain but too much of it will also spoil the crops. It also causes too much traffic to some areas. Its like a blessing from heaven for some areas that hardly rain.

I love the rain!! I love cloudy days.. I just do not like the t-storms.. Reminds me of something that happened in the past that scared the heck out of me... T-storms are fine during the day.. But at night I can not sleep a wink until its gone.. If I am in bed, and thunder strikes I jump about 2 feet up.. and that really stinks when that happens.. it hurts the back ouch... So I love rain, I like watching lighting but I can not stand the sound of thunder.. It reminds me of glass staddering against my bedroom wall.
