I'm a vegaetarian. Just while going through some older posts, one question which was there from long time in my mind, poped up again. Do you consider egg to be veg or non veg. I know now there are lots of definations of being veg, lacto veggie, octo lacto veggie, n some more like that...I 'm not very sure. Veggie, who donot eat meat who do not eat eggs too who do not take dairy products too who do not take, onion n garlic too(yep there are some) If u are vegetarian, which type are you??/

That is an interesting question. I think that vegetarians have to have enough proteins in their diets. I guess you can make a vegetable omelet and for that you need an egg. Also, when you make bread or pastas, etc. you use egg in that. So I think it is ok for vegetarians to eat eggs. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

Hello nehaagra!!! Interesting question. This question comes up to my mind also sometimes. There are different categories of vegetarians. Well I also say I am a type of vegetarian. I accept eggs though. Now in which category do I fall. But I don't accept fish. Fish is totally non vegetarian, but I don't know why some people consider also the fish as the vegetarian food. The fish has totally life like ours and how can it be vegetarian isn't it.? But nowadays, I also started not liking the eggs. I feel like to quit this thing too. For now I will reduce this thing very much. And may be in the future I will totally ban this from my food. But for now I am the vegetarian and an eggetarian haha... Happy mylotting...

Thanks for the accurate term. Yes there are some people who consider fish also as the vegetarian food. May be its a escapism.

I don't think egg is a vegetable simply because it is not planted. I think it's more like a dairy product unless it becomes chicken or balot. If i will become a vegetarian, i think i should be the one who still eats dairy products. I don't think i can stop eating them since cheese, milk, ice cream and many more and it's pretty hard for me not to stop eating them. It's something i won't be able to resist.

yeah! i agree, being a vegetarian has no constraints or limitations as to eat egg or not, for me as a vegetarian means you eat more percentage of vegetables rather than meat, or any other not belonging to the earlier category, in other words you eat more vegetables than egg he he he! i hope i make you enjoy with this comment. okay! thank you and enjoy here in mylotting!

It's a pretty interesting question...a tricky one i must say...but for me eggs come under non-veg dish....it has got no reation with the vegetables....comes from a animal of a non veg category...but i have seen some people who call themselves vegeterian and have omletee...and also diary products which comes from cows and other animals are non veg...huh i guess i'll have to think over this question again the next time i see an egg!!!!.....

After i post my last reponse...i have been thinking about this question a lot and i have came to the conclusion that the thing which grows into meat and has a brain can be categorised as non-veg....so this removes the confusion between the egg and dairy products both of which comes from a nonveg categories..ie..cows and hens...among which i consider egg as non-veg and dairy products as veg products.

That's exactly the way i used to think, but even after adding egg in my diet, i didn't felt as myself a non vegetarian. I am still a vegetarian, as i don't eat meat. So now i am ovo lacto vegitarian..

Well I think vegetarians eat them but vegans do not. A vegan is a much more strict vegetarian, while vegetarians might consume animal products, like milk, vegans will not eat anything that is animal related what so ever. So vegetarians can eat eggs, but vegans do not.

Hey!! Interesting question!! Eggs, meat and fish are rich source of protein... So some veggie do have Eggs for this reason... But in my opinion eggs are non veg!! It has nothing to do with vegetables..It is coming from a bird and has a prematured bird in it. I am not a vegetarian.By the way, thanks for the information.

I am not vegetarian but I found very amusing arguments by vegetarians who try to justify what they eat by calling them "vegetarian" even though these foods are obviously not plants. I read that Bengalis call fish "river vegetables". And yes, there are different types of vegetarians--ovo-vegetarians (they eat fruits and vegetable and eggs), lacto-vegetarians (include milk products in their diet), lacto-ovo vegetarians (include both eggs and milk products in their diet), fruitarians (eat only fruit, nuts and seeds but not the roots of plants) and vegans (eat only plant food, no milk, no eggs). I wonder what all these classifications are for? Here is a link to a site that lists some arguments of pro-egg eating vegetarians--http://news.in.msn.com/columns/article.aspx?cp-documentid=1408453 Enjoy your meals, vegetarian or not!

I consider myself both vegetarian and meat lover. I am in no way put away red meat as part of my protein meal. About the egg question, it is not a vegetable. Obviously it came from chicken and it is part of dairy product. All products that contain egg is somewhat considered not vegetarian. But for me, I eat all dairy products. I can be vegetarian in a sense that I love vegetables and eat it. But I am not a solid vegetarian like the rest I know who really does not eat meat at all. About the onion and garlic, well these are considered as veggies right? I don't think that being vegetarian shouldn't be a hassle eating such. It is part of vegetable family, whether vegetarians or not, they will surely be eaten when sauteed or not.

Yep, oinion and garlic are veggies. But i know group of people "JAIN's", who doesn't even eat onion n garlic. And in india you can find Jain food in resturant menus too, that means food doesn't have onion and garlic. They are pure vegitarian's n even killing a mosquito or an ant, they consider as a sin.

I say i am a vegetarian but still eats Egg in the form of Cakes and Ommlettes. I suppose not all the eggs are being hatched and most of them are Machine made is my opinion about Eggs and I am not sure about that. I came to know that not all the eggs that are being sold in the markets can be hatched and only certain eggs can be hatched. So i still ponder upon this topic whether Egg is a vegetarian or not. I am a kind of Vegetarian who takes Egg in the forms of Chocolates, Cakes and sometimes Ommlette. I take all kind of Dairy products, Onion and garlic.

I am not a vegetarian... so I can't answer which vegetarian I am, coz I just love eating almost anything. However, with regards to your question on whether I consider egg to be vegetarian or not... My answer is, I don't think it's a vegetarian. I am not sure though, as am not really familiar on the classification of foods. But my basis to this, is, egg is not something we plant. I hope I am making sense though. Happy Mylotting :-)

i m also a vegeteraian but i eat egg. It is a very difficult question that egg is a vegeterain or non vegaterian but according to me approx. 30 % vegaterain people eat eggs and they think still say that they are veg. as i did. So as per me egg should be considered as veg.

i am also a vegetarian who eats eggs..and i think eggs are vegetarian..because as far as my belief goes..life is not allowed to evolve inside the egg at all..i am aware that this must be false...but yet i go by this logic...well i think all of us are indirectly non-vegetarians..because v consume ice-creams..and they have gelatin i.e animal fat, women apply lipsticks which again contain animal fat and also finally the veggies and fruits we have were also life before they were plucked out!

Egg is vegetarian, but not vegan. I'm a vegan. But there are a few crazy new definitions too. I don't consider the pollo/pesko-veg people actual vegetarians. To me that is just so messed up, it's like these people just want a label. I want to buy that shirt that says "I'm a vegetarian too, except that I eat: fish, chicken, pork, beef, ostrich, humans, etc." My favorite weird word crazy new definition: Vegitan - someone who eats a vegan diet, but wears leather, wool, etc. To me that is just the weirdest sounding word of them all. I could be accused of being a vegitan at times I suppose, because if I get a wool sweater as a hand me down, I would still wear it. I most likely would not have bought it (and if it were leather, I certainly wouldn't have bought it and likely wouldn't even wear it no matter what).

I consider it non veg u after all consume an organism. Alive or not...many people don't consider them nonveg their justification being that it would not have been born anyways, since they are raised not to hatch, which is stupid since, if you didn't eat, it'd be alive

Many things are very clear. For instance, black or white. It's the variations that get us confused. Variations come into affect when people don't like the current definition. Thus all the different christian groups. Therefore, I reluctantly answer your question that eggs are not vegetarian.

This is an interesting question. Lots of debates are going on in this topic. There are people who call themeselves 'vegetarians' and eat egg. There are vegetariams who don't eat egg. I think an egg is non-vegetarian when it is hatched, otherwise it is veg. The problem is how to find out a eggg is hatched or not just by looking on it.

Hey myself too, a vegetarian who eats eggs. Earlier was not eating eggs too, but felt there's not enough source of protein in our veggies diet, n kids do need all nutrients. So now recently started having eggs.

I think I am an "almost-vegetarian"! :) I rarely eat meat at all. If I do eat meat it is only fish or chicken and occasionally turkey. I could not be a vegan (eating no animal products) I enjoy cheese and eggs and yogurt too much! Actually, those along with various nuts and beans are some of my staple protein suppliers!
