Earlier whenever I stepped out of the house to buy some essentials for the house or do some errands like going to the post office, bank or paying bills etc; I used to forget one or two things and I had to link it with other things the next day and forget some other job. So now I make a list of all the jobs I have to do. I even make a list according to order, so that I can tackle jobs one at a time, going to the farthest place and then covering other places etc; This has really helped me in organising my day today activities. There is no question of forgetting certain jobs now. It is the same with shopping. I feel that making a list is very essential as it saves unnecessary expenditure if one sticks to one's list of essentials. Friends plz share your thoughts on how you go about making things easier while shopping and going about your day today jobs ?

I sometimes make a list of what to buy. There are times I don't make one though. When I go to the grocery, I make a list of what to buy so I won't forget it. But I also tend to look around after I bought what I came for. That is why I still buy other unnecessary stuff too like chips, etc. The same goes when I shop at malls. I always tend to buy other things too that are nice or those that I like at first sight.

Hi zzyw, It always happens with me when I go without a list. I end up buying things that are either already there or just not needed and forget to buy the most essential items. So now I always make a list Thanks a lot for your response

Just like you my friend, I do the same thing. I find it very helpful when i list down the things that i should do either at home or in the office. Whenever i go out for shopping or buying some stuff in the market or supermarket, i itemize everything for me not to forget the things that i should buy. I think itemizing things out can really help not just in avoiding things to be forgotten but also in managing our time. Blessings!^^

I stay so busy with different things, that i find it necessary to use a list to write down jobs, and yes, even grocery shopping. My brother in law has jobs that we go out and work on, then we work around here, then at my sisters house, and someone is always saying: Don't let me forget, or remind me. So, yes, a calendar and lists are sure necessary.

You know, i can't say who this person is; i will refer to him as a friend. He does not read, however he does know some of the alphabets, and his wife makes him out a list, and he goes by the letters in order to know what he is suppose to do, when he has a really busy schedule.

It's all in my head unless I'm doing something special like buying for a new recipe. Most inefficient probably, but it usually works.

Hi dawnald, as long as it works its alright, but mine doesn't lol, I forget the most important things sometimes and remember it the moment I step into my home. So now I have decided that it is better not to trust my memory..

Hi acie, I too love shopping and window shopping. The only problem is the money. One never has enough to splurge, though sometimes I wish I could do so once in a while st least. I make a list just to curb any of these unwarranted and some times unnecessary expenses. The best thing to do would be not to go shopping often even for essentials, that way you dont get to spend. Shopping just once or twice a month for all the household stuff is a good idea...all the best

Hi acie,it is nice to be sure of yourself. I wish I had some of those thrifty qualities. I give in to tempation easily and end up buying certain things. But I am careful while buying other stuff. I hate clutter and having too many things around. Lesser the better except may be things like Sarees, footwear and hand bags... - all the best

Make a list when you go out on errands and shopping is a very good method to do things. It has many advantages. So i usually use this method to do some things when the things are too many.If the things less,i will not make the list.Make a list makes you have a purpose on doing something. And it can improve the quality of doing many things.

Very sensible Kiran! I do this selectively, though not always. But how irritating it is to forget something ; is it not? I make a long list before a travel [esp long travel] about things to be done and things to be taken.

Hi kala, Yes I know kala, it can be frustrating to forget things that you meant to buy and it used to happen with me many many times. So, now i make a list, in fact the list is an on going one at home. I keep adding, when it is long enough I go and buy stuff, it is much better now

I do make a list in fact i keep a running list going all the time. I hate it when i forget my list which i do sometimes. I always get things that are not on my list but at least with the list i get essentials. I try not to go to the store too often & that keeps me from spending too much money. The more often i go the more i spend. I use coupons when i have them , buy markdown meat & freeze it & look out for the bargains if there is such a thing anymore.

Hi ANTIQUELADY, Thank you so much for your response. I think it us a great idea to have a running list so that you can keep adding on to it as and when things run out. I too realsie that I go berserk without a list, tend to overspend and mostly come back without what is there on the list LOL...Have a great weekend and happy mylotting

I do make a list often when i have to much to do to remember everything. It helps me prevent forgetting somethings. But even writing things down I sometimes forget to write some things down and then forget to do that task and it just has to get done later.

Hi jessi, LOL just like me you too forget to write down in the list. I am reminded of an incident once when everybody made reference to oil, because my son wanted french fries and so on, but I thought since it has been spoken about so much I am not likely to forget it, so dint add it on my list. And guess what I forgot to buy it. Thankfully as I was half way back I remembered and went back to buy it lol...

It depends on the things I need to accomplish or buy. If there are only less than five, I don't make a list because I won't be needing them but if it's already beyond, I'll make it. I never trust my memory with longer items.

I also make lists but somehow lately I always leave something and have to go back. It´s usually the kind of things you don´t buy every day. But as I love to cook, I have to have some special spices and ingredients. I use them in small quantities so it´s not that expensive and adds the touch of class to the dish. As for shopping for other things, thats easy: I don´t. I have clothes for 40 years and some new ones that are only 5 years old. But don´t think I dress like a pauper: it´s like cooking: a matter of style I´m retired so that makes things easier. I write at home, do myloting, earn some money online for my vacations, fight with my dog. Everything is done frugally around here. Happy posting!

Hi marguicha,Thanks a lot for your response. It is nice to know your views and thanks for telling us a little about your life.. Frugal living is good, I too try not to splurge. I like to be careful and make my money stretch, but sometimes give in to temptations LOL especially when I see a good saree. My weakness is sarees, thats the only thing that I spend money on without thinking - happy mylotting and have a great weekend

hello there kiran. before i do wrote list on things i would do or buy but now i often forgot to do it. that is why i sometimes i over expense. and i notice that when i don't have a list i i buy things that i don't need.i often mistaken my wants to my needs. so i would suggest to others to have their own list. this is one way of having a nice budget. i will also go back to this routine of mime. thank you for reminding me of this. nice topic.... have a nice day...

Well, I noticed that when I would go grocery shopping or shopping for other essential things, I would tend to forget things. So, I've started trying to make lists. I'll add things to the list as I figure out I'll need them next time I go to the store and this will help me to not only remember to get them at the store, but it helps me to not forget to add them to the list, either. Know what I mean? I'm a pretty forgetful person, so I gotta go something to help me remember. LOL

Lists are very important and I always make them. Unfortunately, I also almost always lose them, so I have to rely on my memory a bit. The best alternative is a pda, like a smart phone or something. That is always available, except it is important to get into the habit of entering any important information as it comes up.

Hi Kiran, When I am going for a big shopping I used to prepare a list otherwise I may forgot or miss out something. If I am going for the house hold things usually I am not preparing and keep it my mind the necessary items. But I should prepare a list if my hubby is going for shopping the funny thing is after getting list from me he forget the same at home and making calls from the shop. Preparing a list before going for shopping will helps in many way. The first is we don’t forgot the things we need and the second is if we prepare a list and we can through the same again, for a second thought we can avoid the unnecessary things and by that way save money too. I am saying about a general shopping and not for the very necessary things.

I make list before going to the grocery or shopping mall, this helps me do my shopping faster and more efficiently. I also list down the prices, so I don't over-budget. I bring some extra money just in case I see something I want but is not included in the list. At work, I start my day by making a things-to-do list. Then before the day ends I check the list again and if there things I wasn't able to do, I do them first on the day that follows. Making a list keeps me on track of all the things that need to be done.
