I don't have a cell phone! I haven't gotten one yet. I may not. I have a mobile type one now and am just now realizing I can move around the house or even go outside. Does everyone have a cell phone now or are there others that haven't made that transition as yet?

It certainly is to me. I had not had one until just about a month or so again. Before that I just had an old fashioned landline. No, not everyone has mobiles.

I have a tracfone. It is pre paid. I really need it for work, for things that come up.For making calls to doctors and pharmacies. I do not do voice mail, I do not do text messages. I just simply talk. My staff does not know what to do because I do not do messages, just talk.LOL. We actually got two tracfones when my husband and I both worked out of town and we felt like we needed to keep in tough or be able to find each other. Our jobs changed, and now I really need mine.

Not having a cellphone is one of the best forms of freedom a person can have. Unfortunately friends always look for me, and it's the only fast way they can reach me. But from time to time I "accidentally" forget my cell phone somewhere around the house, just to enjoy the freedom of being disconnected. Same thing goes for the Internet itself.

My sister doesn't have cell phone. She had one while ago but she got rid of it & I don't blame her. As for me, phone is just a tool, like a car. My work does a lot of communication through phones & I need to have a cell phone for that. On my days off, I hardly answer a call from my work. On acassions, I'll call & take a call from my clients but that's about it. I do take my phone with me when I go on my vacation but that's more for emergency reasons than anything else.

I didn't have a cellphone for about 3 good years and I must say I miss those days. I always did what I had planned to do and now with the cell phone it is so much easier to get distracted. I am not a big fan of phone conversations and think that my days without the cell phone were more relaxing. It is quite bothersome but being a student and working at the same time it has become a necessity. I still think that I wouldn't have gotten one if it weren't for my close friends, they got me one for my birthday. They are good if you are busy and need to move around a lot. It makes things easier, I must say.

I think tech gadgets are just play things. Cell phones are nice to have for emergencies but how often are those anyway?

lol it is indeed rare to find a person that does not own a cell phone. cell phones are becoming such a common sight among younger and younger generations. i see like 8 year old kids with cell phones and texting while walking home. i think cell phones are a good idea to have for emergencies, but i think we are just spoiling our new generation of children with technology. its not a bad thing that you havent made the transition, but maybe you might invest into a Tracphone to save money on monthly phone bills. Since im not a heavy cell phone user, its a good investment for me while giving me a much needed convenience.

I have had cell phones for years. My first one was huge! I remember it didn't get alot of service or anything, but it was great to use for traveling with business. My cordless home phone broke and I am going crazy now just using my corded phone. I am now just telling everyone to call my cell so I can at least walk around while talking.

It was a period that i ahve not a cellphne many years ago..but now normally i have cellphone in my pocket whe i go around..so i think it is useful to have one and so depending from different needs even many functionality will be smart and realible for every day life!! So if you have not one simply you don't see all the necessity to that...as i told in many cases depending from different needs and attitudes which they normally are really personal!!

Ya, I think if I was getting alot of calls in a day or out where I might be caught without transportation or something then I would be more apt to get one. I live in a big city and am not caught out where I wouldn't have a phone.

Only reason I have one is cause my daughter put me on her family plan and handed my down a phone when she upgraded. And she did that cause I do daycare for her daughter and she wanted me to have the phone for emergencies and just to call me to talk to her daughter etc. Other tha that... I dont' use it and if it wasn't for that i wouldn't have one! Call me at home and if I am not there, leave a message and I'll call you back when I get home. I jsut dont' see that people need to be that accessible and spend that much money on a cell phone plan when the money could go into their savings or to help pay down bills/debt.

I've lived my 52 years without one just fine. I was a full time working mother of two kids in two different schools for 18.. and we all did just fine. To me.. it is just one more thing you have to deal with and consider and accomodate and carry around and keep track of in an already busy day so I choose to delegate...and assign that duty to my answer machine and let my answer machine answer to me at the end of the day!

I can't believe you don't have a cell phone yet. They only came out in South Africa quite late, but most people here gave one now.I've had one for about 9 years now. I'd be totally lost without it.

I don't have a cell phone yet, and unless I ever get a job that requires it, I don't plan on getting one. I have a job in an office and it has a landline phone there. If anyone wants to get a hold of me they can easily do it either by calling me at work during the day, or at home at other times. When I'm not at either of these places, then I don't really want to be disturbed by calls. Rather than convenience, I see cell phones as having taken up more of our time, and reduced the amount of time we interact with people face to face. I see the purpose of one if you had a job where it was necessary, such as a self-employed person who had to get clients and was often on the road. I often see people walking together , but they are on the phone with others. This seem a bit antisocial to me. Especially in cases where two people are walking together, but only one is on the cell phone. I think people should decide, do you want to be in the company of someone, or talk on the phone to someone else.

Hello Celti. I had a cell phone for many years, but then gave it up for over a year to save money on my monthly budget. Just recently, though, a friend bought me another cell that is much more reasonable on monthly charges. I got so used to not having one again, that now I keep forgetting to take it when I leave the house! They are very handy, but not exactly a necessity. Karen

other than for "kid duty" I don't know why people want to be so accessible and have that phone run their day and schedule. It rings, and no matter what you are doing you answer the phone. What I really hate is when I am waiting in lines behind people that were on their cell phones and the cashier had to hold off ringing up the sale cause the person was talking on the phone instead of dealing with their shopping. And there I/we all stand waiting in a long line, cause someone is talking on their phone. Or once their things were rung up and the total announced, they get off the phone and have an issue that something wasn't rung up right and if they'd been paying attention to it in the first place...it wouldn't have happened and we'd all behind them.. not have had to waste more of our time waiting just cause they were on the cell phone. I have been nearly hit by cars in parking lots, cause they were on their cell phone talking instead of paying attention to their driving. I have been with people/friends.. and while we talk, their phone rings, they answer and there I sit waiting on them to talk to someone else when it was me that "was there first". No. "hold on, I am with someone" or "let me call you back, I have a friend here". No.. they talk to that person and make me wait. Not that I am so important I shouldn't have to wait, but it was our appointment or time and I scheduled my day around that.. seems to me they could to. But I have to sit there and wait and listen to a one sided conversation.. and then they say to me "I have to take this"and walk out away from me! I want to say "hey, this is our lunch date...I set aside my time to have lunch with you, can't you do the same?" And have you ever noticed.. times have changed... used to be when you wanted to get off the phone with someone you said "someone's at the door" or "the baby's crying". Now... everyone says "my battery is dieing" or "you keep cutting out" or "I'm loosing reception".... just a funny thought!

Back then I don't have a cellphone because I can afford to have one. My only problem back then is communication to my classmates and our relative. My situation back then is very difficult because all of my friends and most of my classmates have a cellphones. Up to now I'm not comfortable to bring cellphones outside. We need to follow the trend so we are not left behind of the technology.

I don't have, won't have one. Ever. LOL I kinda like it when I am unreachable. If I am at work...and there is a need, they can reach me there. If I am at home....call me then. I like the privacy. I also don't trust the experts...I understand how they work....and I don't want to take the risk my brain.

I have a cell phone but I am not one of those that you see with the phone always up to their head. To tell you how much I use it, the mom on the AT&T commercial would love me because I have 5886 rollover minutes. I am changing companies because of the price, I'm going with a pay as you go plan with Boost Mobile.

I don't have one. I have a trac phone just for emergencies. I just don't feel a need for a cell phone. I buy 60 mins for the trac phone and it costs 20.00 and lasts for 2 to 3 months and often with some left over. Of course I have to remember to take it with me. The other day I had an emergency and had forgotten it at home. No wonder the minutes last me so long.

I got rid of mine. It got to the point where I didn't want to be contacted if I wasn't at home. I work all the time so if I'm out..I'm relaxing or busy. I think that cellphones are great for people and they are also entertaining but I'm just not "into" them. I have a landline phone and if I'm not home..I'll call them back. My oldest daughter has one but that's because I worry about her not being able to call if she's out and needs to.

I have had a mobile for quite some time. Although when things were really quite bad finanically I didn't have one for nearly one whole year. It was odd in the beginning of that year because I was so used to having one, but then I got quite used to it really. I do have one now though as it helps me stay in touch when I am on the move.

Hello friend, I started using a cell phone a decade ago and I was really happy about it, talking to people while I go places and catching up on the important piece of work. But, there is a downside to it as well. Your mind is occupied all the time. People can reach you anywhere, anytime and disturb you, even when you're in a mood to relax. You HAVE to carry it with you all the time and then take care of it so that it does not get stolen. Hence, a cellphone is not all good. There are pros and cons of it and I must tell you, if you are untouched by it till now, it's better you do not get one. Cheers!
