Hi Grandpa Bob...in the past, I have grown many peas. They are among the first seeds I plant, as they seem to do best before the weather gets scorching hot. I do include a second and third planting about 2 wks apart to keep them coming on. I've not canned them, but have frozen them, and they make great eating all winter long! Karen

As I stated this is my first attempt at them. Thanks for the tips as well. I plan on building a raised bed for them next year along side this same fence and will plant more in intervals next year to can plenty. That's my plans anyhow. HAHAHA! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Yes, staggered plantings make for fresh peas to eat throughout the season. You'll know they're ready to pick when the pod "bulges" with peas and is firm to the touch. If the pod begins to yellow, that means you've waited too long! LOL Karen

Thank you for the tip, Karen! I have some green beans I cooked up and I guessed right on those and it looks as if my peas I've picked will be alright, too!

Yes we have grown them before and they did real good and were so good. I love most all types of beans and peas that are homegrown. Well I like them store bought too but homegrown is better.

I used to plant peas. Here in Kansas you plant peas mid March and they are done by June first. I have not grown them in a long time. They do taste lovely.

I have never tried to grow peas before. We just do not have thr room for it here. No one in my family really likes to eat them either so it would be a waste for me to do so in my family.

Good job, Grandpa! Yes, I've grown peas before but it was long ago. I've picked a few peas the past couple of days and like another poster said, I have to plant some more so I'll have some later. Same with green beans. My tomatoes never did come up. In fact, I asked myLot when to harvest my peas and had hoped you'd jump in but if you never grew them before you can't say.

Yeah, I can't say when to pick them. I guess just by looks would be best as I know what a pod of peas looks like from the stores. Hahaha! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi :) I gave one tip for telling readiness above, but another good way is to open a couple of pods and have a look. Many tend to become ready at the same time. Karen

Are you going to pick some early as mange tout or snow peas? There's so many ways you can eat peas, which I'm sure you know. Brightest Blessings.

They're looking good. We've never grown pea pods, so I really can't give you any advice or bits of my own experience. But just as a tip - do you have a "macro" or "macro-lens" setting on your camera? It will help you take a less-blurry, up-close picture.
