Life is full of missed opportunities. We go through our day to day life and never really pay attention to what is going on around us. About six months ago I started carrying around my digital camera. It came to me that I was missing to many things happening all around me. I was running into really great people. And even though we were exchanging phone numbers. I knew deep down, the likelihood was we would never get together again. But that brief moment in time, we had touched each emotionally. And I for one, wanted to remember that person in someway. So, I started taking photos of the people I meet. I am really hoping the photo shows up here if not it is in my profile page. I was at Wal-Mart recently. While waiting for the bus I had the pleasure of meeting 3 delightful young girls. I never asked there names. It wasn't important. There ages were 16 and 17 and they were getting ready to graduate High School. I was impressed. With all the bad press we see about kids. Girls in gangs now. Teen girls getting pregrent at the age of 14. They were great role-models for the rest of their peers. They all had great goals. All going to college. One wanting to to a Crime Scene Investigator like that TV show. I asked them if they minded if I took there photo. They asked me why. I told them who know, one of you may end up the first female President. Or discover the cure for Cancer. And I wanna have a photo and be able to say hey I met that girl when she was a kid. I knew she was gonna grow up and do great things. They laughed and thanked me. I know they thought I must have been a bit off my rocker. But we sat there for about 45 minutes and had a very good talk about all kinds of things. They said they don't want children until they are at least 30. One girl said she wanted to have a good job and a house of her own. They really had a plan. I am glad that some of the young teens seem to have a head for the future. Maybe our country has a chance if there are more kids like these 3 girls that were sitting at the bus stop. Oh, by the way. They were taking the bus because it was better for the environment. The one girl had a car. She only takes it to her part time job. Smart girls. Good work by their parents.

These three girls are a wonderful example to the res of the teens out there that are thinking of quiting. Giving up, is not something they even think about. Their parents have alot to do with that. The entire family is to be praised!

Thank you so much for the delightful story....We need to hear more of these stories, and we need to take the time out to discover them...because I am sure there are plenty of great people, that we will never share an experience with. That was great! I hope you are going to put all the pictures you take in a photo album, with the stories behind them, so you, your kids, and your grandchildren, can look and read them some day. Matter of fact, I think this is such a great idea, I just may do that myself.

Honey do I have your address? I can send you a bigger photo of the girls to go with this story. If you meant you wanted to keep this story. Or do you think you will start to carry a camera and do your own adventures? I have alot more photos and stories. Do you think this is something I should put in Associated Content?

I meant that I would like to do this someday....take pictures of people, and get their stories. It's a great way to get to know all the people we share the world with.

I would love to be able to say I knew them when! One girl wanted to go into criminal justice, one into micro-biology, and one wanted to be a crime scene investigator. All great, but hard jobs for a woman.

What a lovely idea! It's nice the girls were friendly and didn't mind. In Australia, there are a lot of problems now with using cameras in public. You're not allowed to take pics of your own children on the beach, as it's a public place and other people might get into the photo - and if someone's caught taking photos (for instance, a man taking photos of girls), you can be reported and prosecuted. Parents aren't allowed to take photos at school sports days or concerts anymore, either. Very sad. It's become a bit of a sad world!

That is awful. Do they think people are using the photo's for the wrong reasons? or is it some religious thing?

Hi cookie, It is nice to meet some youngsters like that who think positively about their future, unlike some teens who have goals in their lives but only to become youngs mums because they don't want to work and have house to live paid for by the goverment, there are many youngs girls like that in the UK.

That's why I felt this was a need story for people to hear. Aside from the fact they were the cutest girls. They had been friends for 10 years with the black girl. The two 'white' girls were sisters. That is a friendship I see lasting until old age between them!! They acted very close.

Hey Cookiecrumbles, i am a teen myself. And your right there are alot of teens droping out of schools and etting pregnant. I mean i walk around school everyday hearing about how thse girls are pregnant or some guys from this crowd are dropping out of school so they can smoke 24/7. Just recently A close friend of mine austen shot his dad three times killing him. I mean no one had ever expected it to happen, he was a great kid huge chrisian and had life great he was headed towards a great future. Im sure there is more to the story of why he did it. But it was shoking. Point is it is hard to fine teens these days that actually do have it together, i mean its hard, specially trying to get from work and home and to school on time and safely.

You are right, they do appear to have their heads on right and want to do things that they have planned and want to experience life first before they settle down and make sure they have what they need. I do hope that it works out the way they want it to. Life does throw curve balls alot of the time so I hope they take care. It is great that they are so young and care about the environment, not alot of kids do at young ages.

I work in a supervisory position where a lot of my evening staff are young people, either high school or college. Some do an average job, some do a less than average job, some are horrible, and some are delightful, excellent, positive, and lovable. The best ones tend to move on, as they are working toward their goals.I have no say so in hiring and firing, and sometimes it is best to keep the ones who are not horrible, even if they are not excellent Then I have to say "goodbye" when the ones with goals move on and hope that the next ones are also excellent. I am glad you asked before taking their pictures.

Oh i would never take a photo without permission. Some religions do not permit photos. I would not want to break anyones beliefs for selfish reasons.

I think a lot of the problem is that we always think of them as kids, when in reality, they're quite grown up. Some never get the breaks in life that others do, and they fall by the wayside. Plus, I feel that the media concentrates more on the "bad apple" kids in society than those who approach things in a sensible, intelligent way, becoming role model citizens. I've noticed in my granddaughter, who is now seventeen and a half, how much sense she makes. She is working hard towards a career with the public prosecution department; she's learning to drive; attends college where she will leave next year for university, does a part-time job to keep her in spending money and savings, and is becoming a great little grown-up! These three girls you met sound similar to her, and the sadness of it all is that we don't hear about these teenage roll models, so we tend to label all kids as lazy, uncaring louts. I'm glad you met these three girls. They seem to have made an impact on your life wisdom, and I feel that maybe, just maybe, you'll encounter at least one of them again, in the future. Brightest Blessings and thank you for sharing.

MY oh my. That is indeed rare nowadays. I am glad that you had the chance to meet them and enjoy the conversation. Kids with a definite plan for life are not abundant. They can't even seem to be able to think about it . let alone talk about it. Your encounter with them brings some hope, doesn't it?

Yes, good work to their parents. They sound like some very with it girls for their age. The bus stops can really give you a cross section of life can't it? I saw my first transvestite on one so there ya go. What an experience. I certainly enjoy the adventure of life. So good that you take pictures of these characters you meet along the way. Good for you!

Gosh!! i love this idea!!! it's very great of moments of real life, you know what. maybe you can take this idea further. shoot the pictures of people you met, put down their thinkings, organize them and it can be a book, a book with people's stories! If you are a person travelling a lot, thatd be better for you to round up the material. Cookiecrumbles, i also had an idea not being far away from yours, whenever people post a topic at MYLOT, others from different countries reply and share, argue and fight. if you can select the good topics and narrow down, organize, edit, i m expecting it to be a good book of minds storming, from people in different countries, but more importantly, storming over things that we all care about or know, not too much sophisticated, likewise, Gossip from the World.what do you thinkkkkkkkkkk

It's so cool to read this story of yours. In the current society where we hear of so many horrid stories of teenagers getting themselves into trouble, this three provides us a glimmer of hope that there are still young people who aspired to be great and are destined to do great things in life. I'm sure that their parents have taught them well and have provided them an extremely conducive environment to learn and to grow up responsibly. Bravo!

This would really be great some time. You will get back to all those photos. You can smile when you see each one of them because each of them is packed with wonderful memories and stories. I hope I have my own camera too so that I can do that also. I meet so many people in a day and I want to remember them vividly through a medium too.

I must say this is very inspirational story. II want to own my camera too. Need to start plan now. When I was a teenager, I don't know what I want to do with my life, i just follow what other people are doing and after I out from university, I begin to face a cruel reality of life. Life need a lot of patient and strong will. Its great to read that the three girls, know what they are doing and has plan ahead, and now is to stick to their plan and never give up. Life is full challenges but anyone can face it if they are strong.
