My new money hobbie or becoming a "Georger" as in "Where's George?" Dollar fun

I read through the forums at wheresgeorge.com and it seems easy enough to get into this hobbie. It is also as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. So I received 5 ones from a Subway in a nearby town, went online to register them, and wrote the www. for the site on the right edge and put arrows where the numbers are that need to be registered so the bills come up as well as my comments. That's the cheapest way to do it, but labor intensive because of all the writing. Next is stamping them, that's only 4 dollars for the cheapest stamp from one of the companies (learned about it at a forum), so I can have a stamp and save my wrists/hands. So when I have time, I'll just input the two numbers I need from dollars I receive in change for my 20s. Cheap and easy to get started. Love the maps with colors they have. Shows all the different states that people have gotten responses from and about how many from each state. Then some further break it down and you can see how many people responded from each county in each state. The more I read, the more interesting it gets. Easy, cheap, dollar fun, time intensive, but easy and cheap usually are!

It keeps your brain active, I am sure. I still see so many educational benefits from it. I just do not feel I have time for hobbies other than MyLot right now.

That's the thing I like about it. You can enter dollars when you have time and not enter when you don't have time. Plus doesn't cost much. From what I see, most people where I live only enter a wheres george when they get one in change, most aren't starters. Thanks and take care.

truly am "out of the loop" here, writersedge! I do not understand what is going on! I presume, guess, you are tracking the travels of paper money! I do not understand how this is done! I am guessing that you are marking the bills, and tracking them by their numbers? I am surprised that the bills can be marked, because here in Canada it is a crime to deface, mar paper bills! And, of course, now, both our $1.00 & $2.00 are coins...the "loonie" and "toonie." I see, in one discussion, that it is happening here in Canada..and called "where's Willie," but I have not seen anything of it here on the West Coast! Thank you..and Cheers!

I don't know about in Canada, but deface to the point of not able to use as legal tender is illegal here, but to mark in the white spaces is not. There is a link from www.wheresgeorge.com to what exactly the USA law is and I assume the same happens somewhere in www.whereswillie.com Steps to this: First someone gets a dollar bill. Second, the person goes online and registers the dollar bill's two numbers, ID # and series number (for USA, not sure about Canadian). Also adds any comments as to where got it or found it. Third, someone stamps in the approved areas: See where I've been; Track where I go. www.wheresgeorge.com or just the site address or something similar. 4th, the person spends it. That's what the "Georger" does. Now the person who finds the bill, just does the second step. That person can do more like get alerted when the bill gets input again. I think the bills that go to Casinos are very interesting and the ones that get found and input 5 or more places are really, really cool. I bet Where's Willie works similarly. There are examples in the top 10s and other places across the top. It's fun and you can do it when you have time, not do it when you don't. So look at your money from now on and see if you find a Where's one or the other. The bills that have been input into the site have maps to show you where they went and all kinds of neat stats like how far it traveled in how many days. The samples are fun to look at under the top 10. One bill was input 15 times and went all over the USA. One person who is a Georger says she loves it because she learns about little places she's never heard of and finds out where they are. Many times her bills go places she'd like to go like Hawaii. Some people have had so many bills go out that they've been to all 50 states by George!

Have a good time. Hope you like the website(s) as much as I did. The forum was fun, the top 10 bills was fun, the maps, the top "Georgers" have some fun or funny profiles. Thanks for the interest and take care.

Well, if you do it my way, it's not. As I get a bill or two in change, I add the bill to the online site. But some people get an entire pack of dollars (they call it a strap and I don't know how many are in the the little paper band)and write on all of them! That's labor intensive unless you buy a stamp. I want to track the natural flow of money, so trading regular $10s and $20 for a bunch of ones doesn't seem like natural flow to me. But I guess how it flows from you is natural, but I don't pay in all ones by the hundreds naturally.

I wish you would, then we could share stories. Who knows, it may be a topic someday on Helium.
