Have you ever wrote a poem?

I love writing poetry although I only do it every now and again. I think that it's a kind of "release". Some people write poetry for the ones that they love and others keep their poetry under lock and key. I do a little of both. Have you or do you write poetry? Feel free to share your favorite poem here if you like.

I love writing poetry its a passion of mine. I have had a bunch published online and one poem in a book of poetry. Attached below you will find one. YOUR EYES As I look into your eyes I can see the extension of me As I look into your eyes I can see the understanding As I look into your eyes I can see the courage and strength As I look into your eyes I can see your trust and warmth As I look into your eyes I can see your love for me! Thank you so much for sharing that. It is great! I have a couple of poems on line as well. I'm not in a book though. I think it would be a great honor to be publishe in a book. Is it a book of your poetry or are you one of more authors? Thanks for the response!

i ahve written poems but I dont consider myself particularly poetic. I often just write in free verse. I dont think I understand all of the rules pertaining to poetry. I would rather just write something that I dont consider to be particularly poetic. Writing is something I like to do and find pretty interesting.

But that is the great thing about poetry...there really are no "rules"...many people think that poetry MUST rhyme...or have some kind of meter...but poetry is just a flowing of words to express or describe a particular feeling or idea...if it happns to rhyme or have a particular meter to it so be it. I remember one of the hardest assignments i ever had in school...we were studying poetry and were assigned to write a rhyming poem....do you know how hard it is to A) write a poem on demand, and B) write one that rhymes? And to top it off, we had to get up in front of the class and read them aloud on the day they were due! talk about misery for a teenager! Most of the ones my classmates submitted were more along the lines of limericks *lol*... I actually still have mine in my notebook of poetry, i will share it with ya'll, if you promise not to make fun of it (and keep in mind that i was like 15 years old when i wrote it!) My Life My life has never been very exciting Most of it was spent trying to fit in Invisible, into the wood work blending Feeling like i have committed some sin I have made my home in many places No where i have ever lived has felt right Friends have come and gone, so many faces Hoping something better would come into sight Then came you, making my life worth while Though only in soul, not body we are together Just hearing your voice make me brightly smile Don't you know? i will love you forever? I wrote this poem, bad though it may be Just to let you know, how much you mean to me I always REALLY hated the lasy stanza, but if i remember correctly, the poem was required to be 14 lines long for credit *l*

Hi snowy! She's right about poetry not really having any rules. Unless you are trying to write a Haiku or something. I really enjoy writing as well. It was my first passion. Thanks for responding! Thanks for sharing your poem from school! I think it's great you still have it. I would love to still have some of the things I have written. They have been lost here and there throughout the years.

Only funny ones because I am not talented at serious ones. My daughter has written some beautiful ones that have won awards and some published but does not do it any longer. Too bad, she was good at it.

Hi Jen, I sometimes write poems for a number of reasons - joy, sorrow, anxiety. It's like I need to find a way to express myself. It's only during these moments of feelings that words flow; other than that, it's quite difficult for me to write a poem.

Hi lazeebee! Those feelings can be very strong inspirations. It is a wonderful way of expression when we need it to be. I have to be in a "mood" too. Thanks for the response.

Hey Jen! I have written quite a few poems in my life and they are actually under my real name on Poetry.Com! I even had an opportunity to have them published in their Book of Poems! I think I have about 6 of them on their site! It's been many years since I have actually written anything. I was quite young when I wrote these and in a very "dark" place! I was in "love" and "heartbroken"! You know how that goes, but the poetry was pretty good and even my English Professor in College said that I should write so it must have been pretty good since she was a writer too!

I am not a poet but I love to lay down my forms in abstract poetic form. Luckily poetry has changed much since the Romantic, Victorian and Elizabethan era. I have just published a book of poem. You can preview it here: http://www.lulu.com/content/paperback-book/mirrors/7281815 I also love the HAiku form (5-7-5 syllable) three liners. Transparent Love I have always feared water bodies Have loved to sit and watch though It was always fun The ripples with mystery moves The wind forming and changing the patterns At times untamed getting out of the groove The ripples at times touched my feet only to go back It couldn't dare, it never had There was unruliness and there was pattern The pattern of nature, the pattern of life. This time is different though The water is no more fun No wind, no challenges, no madness I could see the bottom of the water Still, emotionless, blatant and transparent Not a single pattern, no mystery, no ripples Does water get sad as well? Or it's the nature - I wondered. I could see the bottom The bottom I never could see but always have wished to The hues of blacks, greens, browns, yellows, not so yellows Metamorphosed infinitely, a feel of heaviness and unexplored bitterness The colors have a story An untold story - I tried to unfold It was endless, a story of grime, dirt, sarcasm I saw the loves, guilts, jitters, cheats, I saw life I couldn't take it anymore I came back. Surprisingly it felt peaceful I have always wanted transparent love. (C) MouD August12, 2008

Wonderful mimpi! I can't wait to check out your book. ok..here's one of mine. A face. A place. A time once known. A million lives to call my own. The mountains call me home by name as I wander the western plains. The ocean whispers in my ear as snow flakes gather on my hair. I twirl my finger in the sand as life goes on upon lush land. There is no group to call my own and family has long been gone. I'm lost. forgotten. Never known. These fears that call my heart their own I wonder where I'm supposed to be and will that place be right for me. As for now I'll carry on and listen for my special song.It may lead me to my place where I can finally show my face.

That's a talent you've got there. I love writing short poems, simple poems at that. But I don't mind creating a long one, only that it might take a bit of time to complete. I love to read others work too. So if you have any poems projected anywhere, send me the link. I'd love to read it..

Hi zed! I snuck my most recent poem in response 12 of this discussion. Here's the one i wrote just before it. It's called Spring Nights. The sun goes down and darkness falls. With it's scent it always calls. I let my hair fall down my back and smile at the breeze that kissed my neck. Diamonds fleck the midnight sky and make me feel so rich inside. The grass is soft beneath my feet as I dance between the trees. All the life that's never seen is at this moment watching me. As the sun begins to rise,I feel like I am energized. So through the day I'll patiently wait until my next spring night escape. It's a little shorter than the other one..but it was fun to write.

I've been writing poetry since I was 9 years old... that's been a long time now. I used to put my writing on a poetry board online and every now then I found my poems on other people's web pages stating that they had written them.. I have since taken all of my work down and I no longer publicly display my poetry. But I love reading poetry :)

I did have mine copyrighted.. however the laws, 10 years ago (and probably still today) have/had so many loop holes in it, that one word change makes it impossible to say that it is yours that is covered by the copyright.. I'm not sure if the laws have changed or not but I mainly write for my own viewing (sometimes close friends) only.

I write poetry occasionally. I do it more for closure in a romantic situation. I even submitted one for a contest one time. Wasn't very good and I certainly don't think I have a gift for it or anything. I do try new things and that is one I try when the mood strikes. Thank goodness that isn't very often.

nice topic! yes i used to write poems. i do it very rarely though but i'm very proud of my work. once i get a really heavy surge of inspiration, i grab my pen and paper and write what i feel. i remember the last time i was really in love with a girl, when i courted her, i handed to her the poem that i wrote. she cried and she loved it. i guess i could say i do write some good poems but it takes me years and years before i get that some kind of inspiration. at present, i think i have only around 4 poems all in all. i hope i'll be writing more in the future though!

I tend to read poetry, not write it, though I have in the past. There is an elegance to a poem well written and striking to the reader. I've had a professor that said that poetry is the highest form of writing. Those who can't write poetry, write short stories, and those who can't write short stories, write novels. Humorous and while not the rule there is a certain truth to it. A poem can convey all that a novel can and its brevity lends it power that the novel can never quite obtain. That said I think I've only ever written one poem that came close to doing that. Since then I haven't written any poetry. Perhaps one day I'll go at it again, until then I'll stick to my short stories and novels.

I love writing short stories. I have tried a few novels but I get another idea in my head and start on it, never finishing the first..lol...One day. I have a new stradegy the next time I start one though. I do enjoy writing poetry to though. Thanks for the input.
