here in the D.C. area there are ads that say " She will always know her first grade teacher." It is a way to get more people to go into teaching. It got me thinking , do any of you remember your 1st grade teacher? I do. I went to a progressive private school. We got to call our teacher by her first name. Her name was Mary.Who was your 1st grade teacher.

Yup, I remember...I, too, went to a Private School, and her name was Sister Martha. She was a tough teacher to have in the first grade - she would pinch our cheeks, tease by stepping on our feet - However if you made it thru her class, you were ready for the rest of your 11 years. Must add that I learned to love her as I got to know her later on in years.

If I were in her class, two things would have happened that would have been tragic. One,since she was a nun,I would have hated G-d.and second,I would have not learned anything. Now I know why some people have the " I survived Catholic School." t-shirts.

Hi Sarah! You caught me, I have poor memory in this regard, cannot recall the exact name of my teacher in Ist standard, however, I do have a group photograph of all the class students sitting in a group, along with our class teacher. I mean her photograph is still with me, however, I cannot recall her name.

That counts. You do remember your teacher. I am terrible with names usually. But Mary is easy to remember.

Yes I do! I think his name was Mr. Erickson, but I am not sure. He was very lengthy and had a big, sort of goofy nose and he had a great personality. I could tell that he really cared about his students and he loved his job. I remember when he was teaching us how to count to 100. Once a week each student would have to go up in front of the class and count as high as they could and if you made it all the way to 100, you got a 100 grand bar. hehe I always got the candy. I was definitely a show off. I really liked that year.

I think I can recognize one of my 1st grade teacher's, but I don't think I can all him the right name. I was not a good student in school, so I was always punished by the teachers when I was in elementary school, so, I think the case is that I don't like to recall my teachers, so I have forgotten them. To be honest, most of the teachers gave me a bad impression.

Yes, I remember my first grade teacher. Her name was Ms. Taylor. She appeared to be so stern and was older in age. She was a great teacher and loved me so much that she would give me love pats and I went home and told me mama that I got in trouble and got a whipping. She went to see what was going on and my teacher just loved me so much that she was just giving me love pats. LOL I won't ever forget that and it was over 48 years ago. LOL! Some things you never forget. Thanks for the discussion and God bless you!

I still remember my first grade teacher... and her name is Ms. Lugay... i can't say she is very nice because during that time she was so strict... not the kind of teacher that we see on tv who is always smiling... saying words of encouragement... or simply lovable... But i must say she is quite an effective teacher because i learned how to write and read under her... though it was mainly because of fear...

Mary was nice.I think if I had a mean teacher,I wouldn't have learned anything.I would have just shut her out or refused to do anything in the class.

I still remember my 1st grade teacher. Ms. Xu was an old teacher but I was so grateful to her. She was kind. As at that time my handwriting was so ugly. She kept me after school and taught me patiently. Then I knew it's important to write words clearly. I love China

My first grade teacher was called Peter (in the Danish schools we usually call teachers by their first names) I liked him, because he was very entertaining and good at telling stories. He was also very good at playing the guitar and he sometimes played for us. My parents and the many of the other parents didn't like him, and they didn't think that he was a good teacher. After some time I had another teacher, because Peter left the school. He gave up teaching and started making tv-programmes instead.

To tell the truth, I am better at remebering faces than names. As for highschool, I do remember some of my teachers but very few names.

I will always remember my 1st grade teacher.. though her name had changed (she got married when I was in High School). I can still clearly remember her face and even up to these days, if I get a chance to go to my former school I still love to visit them. It's always nice to let them know you remembered and show them how well you are now or what you have become.
