I observe a friend of mine like to be trendy and always on a look out for the latest fashion in terms of clothing, shoes, bags, accessories etc.. that she hardly saves her allowances. She always spends her money in shopping for the latest and hottest fashion in town in order not to be left behind and always like to be the first among her friends to show her latest collections. It is an added charm, makes one elegant and stylish. Makes you feel happy too. How about you? Do you always maintain a fashionable look in order not to be left behind with the latest fashion trends? Do you think chasing a fashionable images both a waste of time and money? Kindly share your thoughts? Thanks

IT's more than good enough to know which are the fashionable things at the moment, and what's the trend.. haha =D I can be following, but i need not be wearing them to show off right?? hehe We are supposed to bring life to whatever we are wearing and not the other way round.. PLus, not everybody is suitable for the most trendy thing.. WHat happens if one turns out weird in that particular trend?? Who's to be blame?? haha =D

yap and the choices is endless and one's who get the budget even get dizzy just comparing the prices and brands at absolutely high prices. Then, if one's really like the item then go for it to buy it. I see no wrong on on it as long as the person chasing to maintain a fashionable images work hard to attain what she wants from her own pockets... yap, you don't go blindly only with cross eyes..lol... and the person who likes to maintain a fashionable images go for it coz it fits her personality..

Yeah, that is true if you keep following on the fashion trends, you would end up with empty pockets as fashion changes quickly and to be updates have to be fast too in grabbing the latest styles. It is also right that first impression last on one's memories but not with the latest clothes one's wear which attracts but the total personality of a person is deeply the most important things.. I see some people follow whatever the current trends to make it appear they are update but it really not suits into their own personality. The item look great, but the wearer is not.

yeah, classic style is still the best as some modern fashion stylish have added some pompous or elaborate elements identify with the current trends and by passing years the items which have been bought before is no longer renewable except if you know to improvise to make the items recyclable.

Yeah, that is true their are lot of vintage store and even sales discount store where you could buy the same brand with the lower prices rather than buying the latest item which on the long run would also fades in terms of quality. To be safe it is better to stay on the classical style of choosing clothes as they are still usable after years of using compare to the latest fashion clothing which quickly fades its popularity when new product enter.

No am not a slave to fashion. I normally keep to my own style of dressing and would not fall prey to the fashion world. Fashion changes very fast simply because of cash hungry businessmen. Fashion is a huge business and income derived from the ever changing fashion trend has made many traders millionaires. It is just a waste of money to be following the latest trend as any latest fashion will surely burn the pocket.

Yeah, that is true as demands for new things increases from consumers and so do is the need for quick changes in fashionable items sales at a prices higher depending on the brand names and one with the designers signatures. And, if you follow it blindly you would always find yourself on the losing ends as the item is not renewable or usable as it is no longer the hottest fashion as a result the items which used to be popular before would only be left out to the dusty cabinets.

I like to look good first of all for myself because I am someone who like to please oneself first then others like my sisters and boyfriend. So I shop a lot and shop only for things I know will look good on it, so no waste of too much money though. We are young and we like to get dressed well and to follow fashion a bit, however to become slave to fashion is not for me.

Yeah, that is very necessary to test first ourselves if the latest fashion fits one's personality rather than indulging too much on maintaining a fashionable images which bounds to fail if their are no enough amounts of spending allocated on it. Then, have a need to be content on what is presents rather than complain is a greatest virtues,em]happy[/em]

Since I'm at work during weekdays most of my choices are those that can be worn in the office. I buy clothes and other apparels that I'm comfortable wearing and appropriate in my place of work. I do follow some trendy fashion at times but only when they fit my age. Fashion doesn't have to be a pain in the pocket, and elegance doesn't necessarily mean expensive. One can still look elegant without spending a fortune.

It is really a matter of the right and match strategy to combines casual with the everyday apparels. As in your cases your offices uniform could be look formal but inside you could wear a tops with a different colors then after office works, you could still used to look like an casual clothing. Anybody could make its own fashion statement as long as one's have retain a fashion sense not making own fashion that is ridiculous to the onlookers.

for me it is a waste of money.you can recycle your clothes and you can explores to it.style and fashion is just a matter of being creativity.i can use my mother shirts because 80s shirts are becoming popular nowadays.it is just a recycle of clothing and some accessories.i have important things and priorities for by just updating my fashion.i can be make use of second hand dress and clothes and i just make it creative.and for me it is priceless and not expensive a reasonable thinking.

hi amyson, Yeah, that is true. but recycling takes too much time if one's have no enough creativity or knowledge to add few elements to recycle the past items, it would be useless and it may even damage the fabrics. I prefer to buy cheaper item that it is still fashionable just like the design of the branded stuffs. I could saves a lot of money not to over do my expenses. have a nice day!

Personally, i shop for the things that i like. I don't shop to suit someone elses tastes. I think a need to satisfy yourself, is more important, than trying to : keep up with the jones's, so to speak. I don't try to impress others with my dress and the things that i put into my home. I buy what i like, and what i think that i can use. Mostly i like jeans, so i do buy a lot of jeans. Capri's is also a favorite of mine in the summer time.

Yeah, that is better to look for comfort rather than following the fashion trends when it does not match your tastes and personality. it is going to be a failure to try it when you hesitate then do not follow it is the best things to do.

I think it is really common for young people especially to go after all the latest trends. I know my 15 year old is really into fashion but to her credit she does not go running after everything new that comes out. She is pretty careful with her money. We actually shop at thrift stores quite a bit where we can find really fashionable clothes at real reasonable prices.

yes....very true. We have a thrift store locally that accepts only top brand name clothes that are in perfect condition. It is actually a consignment shop. They do a pretty hefty business and gives young people incentive to earn money on their "cool" clothes that they have either out-grown or grown tired of as well as an opportunity to buy them much much cheaper.

I myself buy in a surplus store and the items are not all old or used but sometimes it comes from factory with defects and i could see the tags is still attach on the items. Yeah, that is true one could still find a branded item from the thrift store which still wearable. Thus, one could get the same good quality with a lesser prices..

Yes it is a waste of time and money because she is spending so much to attract the world. she is not looking at her future to save money. In the future there will be problems and she cannot sell clothes and shoes for a good amount of money. She will have to take loans which will get her in problems. If she is from a rich family and there is no money problem in her life she can spend that way.

Yup, having fashion sense is good and one could look pretty without having to wear expensive clothing as some know to mix and match their clothes to look fabulous and yet they remain humble. One could look good even if the price is cheaper or not so expensive. it is just a matter of budgetting and imitation should only done to inspired and not in the same things to flaunt which is a waste of money which one have to keep a lot of savings as it is better to live in simplicity without having to worry about what to wear but in the future undertaking to becomes successful, one need to be frugal and being fashionable is alright as long as one feel comfortable..

hello well, i am not really that trendy...hehe i just dress for comfort! i wear what i fell is nice for me and what is available...i don't always buy new clothes and apparels, when i buy clothes, i just buy those that are classic? hehe i mean those clothes that never gets out of style... maybe to some its not a waste of time & money for that brings happiness to them...but for me, its just fine also...if you have money to spend and if it looks good on you...

yes true...some people really waste money that way...there are some who always buy new clothes and wear it just a few times and then just stock it in their closet! huh! what a waste! its okay to buy expensive clothes as long as its on good quality and can be used for a long time...and can easily use for mix matching... but of course it will be better if we can get good quality clothes with a low price... have you tried buying in 'ukay-ukay'?
• Philippines
3 Oct 09
hi ckyera, they are happy that way and it seem that they also the first one to buy the latest fashionable item in town then throw away the clothes after it already wear off its popularity. About the ukay-ukay I rarely buy clothes from it although most are imported and in good quality I am not ensure where they come from.. Thus, I may buy it only if they are surplus from factory or factory defect with still a tag attach on it. Mostly pants, bags, jackets, caps and other items not the usual clothing as some is easily wrinkled even though you already wash it many times and soak in warm water to get rid of bacterias it does not feel good to wear. I still prefer to buy clothes which are the casual types and could be used both for formal/informal affairs..

Yeah, classic with simple design and no elaborate details are safe kind of fashion style. and it is not easily get out of fashion even wearable whatever seasons you like to wear it. Buying something even it is expensive could make you feel good as long as you have the money to buy and the problem start when someone buy something that is over indulgence and keep in collecting until her stock of clothing get piled on her dresser, that is going to be now a waste of money..

I buy for myself.I don't choose clothes that will please other people.I buy clothes that are comfortable and will make me sexy and confident.I choose the classic trends.I am one of those people who hate bumping into someone who has the same clothes as I have.I shop for vintage clothes because it makes me feel confident because I know in my area,I am the only one with that piece.

I too rarely buy the latest trends as their are many people too who buy the same colors and design. I prefer to go to the dress shop to sew my own design clothes or let my younger sister to buy for me when she went to Manila. It is cheaper and of good quality where she buy in a second hand shop store there she could find clothing that is somehow similar to the latest fashion then just add some elements to give it a new look which is a lot of savings.

I don't care about fashion. I dress to be comfortable, always. I will wear a sweater during the summer and a skirt in the winter. I do not care about what style is in, I have my own style. I love trendy things and I do buy stylish stuff at times, but I'm not into "keeping up with the trends". I absolutely adore seeing the styles where ever I go, but I can't get into it like that...AND I'M FROM LOS ANGELES lol

Hello neelianoscet, another good discussion. I think chasing a fashioonable images is not a waste of time, but waste of money, or both. it is truth that nobody wants to be out of fashion when he/she is walking on the road, and maybe nobody wants to become one of the person who being neglect. According to my experience, those who are more fashion is more easy to get friends, and those who are out of fashion, not easy to get friends. So I think to chasing fashionable images is a must. But fashion doesn't mean that you have to buy a lot of clothes and accessories, you can choose those ones that is not easy to become out of fashion. But I don't chase fashionable image personally, I am a person who don't like to attract other's attention that much.

10 Oct 09
yeah, your observation is very true as for my own experience i could say that many friends or peers praise me when i have something new to display then when I remain simple I hardly get notice and it seem they just pass on me without making even a greeting. Aside from it a lot of boys like dressy women who know to makes themselves beautiful. Thus, one could identify who is her real friends and the friends who are a great pretender. I myself have no bias when selecting a person to befriend as I do not look on the physical but on the manner of the person. Being fashionable is good when one know to match it with his own personality. Thanks for responding.

I think fashion is good if you have the money to spend for it. I think alot of people go into debt and spend way more than they should at times though. I think it should be bought in moderation.

yeah, that is very true and buying whatever fashionable items is the right of every person as after all it is her money. Other people likes to have a fashion statement it identify them different from the rest of the crowds. Also serves as a status symbol that one is capable of acting fashionable and not penniless. All things should be kept in balance as extremes lead to abuses.

Absolutely! I have three children, one of which is a 14 year old daughter. I have seem so many different styles come and go. It does frustrate me that there are styles that look terrible that cost so much and will be out of fashion within months. I remember when Tommy clothes were so expensive and now you can't give that away. Or now he one going out is American eagle. Which is making way for element and dc. Which will become out for something else. You are better off buying some neutrals in a no name brand that will outlast all these silly trends.
• Philippines

Chasing every fashion trends in the markets is really a waste of time and money. In your cases you got three kids and of course they have their own taste, likes and dislikes in terms of fashion. Each have their own fashion statement which like to project an image which they could identify with their peers. The safest things to do for me is to stick with the classical items with plain colors and simple design as you would definitely never go wrong with it.

That is better to buy only the things that are needed rather than spending on something which on the long run would no longer be recyclable. Each person have its passion for fashion sense and it only depend on the manner we carried ourselves that we feel fashionable rather than forcing self to be updated with the latest trends when it really not fits one's personality.

Hmm...Would I say that I'm a "slave to fashion"? Slave probably wouldn't be the word I'd use, but I do like to follow trends so yes that would make me very fashionable and somewhat trendy. Do I go out and buy every trend? No I can't be bothered to but I will splurge now and then with very chic pieces. I won't say that I have a ton of clothing because I prefer to buy a fewer more expensive pieces that will last a while, rather than tons of cheaper priced clothing. I buy expensive purses but not anything too trendy because I don't want to look dated. Everyone is different but that's how I shop. I will also say that I'm more trendy when I'm in Europe then when I'm here in North America, and you would never see me running around in yoga wear over there, like I do here sometimes. I don't know... I suppose it's just being surrounded by fashionista's around you and that kind of "rubs off on you", me in this case. It's quite funny because when I first married my husband, he was somewhat fashion challenged, but now he's become quite the fashionista, it's hilarious really but cute I think. But no I don't think being fashionable is a waste of time, providing you can afford it and don't get yourself into debt over it!!! I've always been into fashion ever since I was a little kid, and getting my Mom to buy me Vogue magazine when I was 8!

Yeah, being fashionable is a right of choice. One could be a slaves of fashion if you let the fashion things slaves you or just being a simple follower of fashionable items which have an appeal to you as long as it match with your personality. Then, it is good to maintain the fashion statement as updated rather than outdated. All good thing comes in moderation resulting in one's effort to keep all things in balance, including chasing a fashionable images is right when you could keep it up with your amount of spending at a reasonable cost.

I shop for the things I need and like on me. I do not shop to be fashionable. I do not thing it is a waste of time if that is what you like to do. There are many people who like to be the first to wear a new fashionable dress and if that is what they want then why should I say it is a waste of their time.
• Philippines

That is the right attitude to maintain buy only the things that you really need. Some people buy fashionable things as a sort of reward for themselves for the hard work it is a sort of making oneself feel happy. And, if you have enough money then buying fashionable items is not a waste of time and money when you buy it because you have purchasing power but in excesses it would be bad for the long run when files of fashionable items clog on the dresser untouched for years.

Well, using the old scruff that hangs out in my mirror as an example, I know we can put a business suit on the old boy and he'd look a lot better. But I also know he'd still be the old scruff, so what's the point? It makes no sense to me to go to all the trouble and money of pursuing someone else's persona..to be so concerned with looking, talking, acting like someone else when, I feel, the whole reason for me being here is to be me. Trust me, that's hard enough in and of itself at times. Then complicate it more by trying desperately to be like someone else? EGADS and no way! ENJOY!

Being the authentic and being genuine is the key to live a contented lifestyle. Nobody could influence whatever types of images you like to project. By being your own self it is the only you who know best which suits to you and the same things with the kinds of items that one like to purchases. Whatever makes you feel comfortable without stealing your identity is better to keep self unique away from the influences of others or even with the current fashion trends.
