Based on my observations at my hometown if someone celebrate its birthday, they prepare foods and having party. Some lend money just to be sure they are having preparations. I also experienced in Japan that when somebody celebrate its b-day they just simply buy cakes, great them, and sing ab-day song to him/her thats all. On my part i will have preparations/celebrations only if i have money. no need to lend it. how bout you do you do the same?

I don't it is wise to borrow money just to be able to celebrate a birthday party... eating out with family members is good enough for me... or a simple pancit and goldilocks cake will do... With the current economic crisis and all these natural calamities... it is best that we allot our money to thing that are more important...

If you have money for your birthday I think food is not important as long as you are still alive and be thankful that God give you another year. My mother always prepare something in our birthday she prepares pancit or spaghetti and she never forget to prepare food that why we are very thankful to her even if we don't ask her to prepare food in our birthday. I observed here in our neighborhood if they don't have money for their birthday celebration they borrow money to others so they can brag it. I think celebration is not important to us anymore only kids will appreciate it.

Hello again my dear, part of our customs is the way we treat birthday celebration. Nowadays, it should not be necessary unless you have a lots of money. But since majority are in financial needs I think we should budget our income into some useful and some priorities than by spending just for birthday celebration...of course this would always in favor of those "hungry mammals" around. Eating for free. I hope you got my point...thanks ...keep on writing...

Well, maybe because it is tradition to prepare cake/present/food for the bday either boy or girl, wherever I am. It is very common, and everybody will see it as something nice. =) I believe the b-day celebrant will not hope that we will give him/her something big, but sometimes he/she does! =) I really enjoy being a part of someone's birthday party especially being a staff of it. =)

Hi cupcyke, I do celebrated my birthday every year. Just a simple celebration will do for me. No need to have a birthday party for my big day. I only have my birthday party once with my friend when I was 17 years old. That is my sweet seventeen birthday party. Apart from that,I did celebrate my birthday with my family. A simple dinner and cut a cake is enough for me. Last August, I have my birthday celebration at home. I cook simple dishes and hubby bought me a tiramisu cake and KFC back home. Then my son sing me a birthday song and I really enjoyed my big day every year with my family. If a person don't have money, then it is better not to have a birthday celebration as it is a bad habit to borrow money from other people just for the birthday celebration.

if it involves kids, i prefer to have the celebration but not to the extent of making it extravagant, of course. i just feel that kids deserve to have a little somehow. like cake or ice cream. in my case, i do it when the savings i have would be a spare. most likely, i just pray thanked god for another extension of my life and my mom cooked my fave pasta (yummy!)to spend with my family then i will go out and my friends usually treat me for dinner. im open for practicality but not just overdoing it. :)

My family makes sure that we prepare some food whenever there are birthdays. It is a kind of tradition already in the family and I guess for other families in other countries too. It just shows that however hard it is to earn money, we still have the means to celebrate those special occasions in our lives once in a while. A person's birthday only happens once a year, so it's just okay to spend a little something to it, even if it is just simple. Take care! :)

Most children in a America get some kind of party for their birthday. The food served could be anything or just cake and ice cream, but most of the time things like hot dogs or pizza are served. But cake and ice cream is traditional. For adults sometimes they will just celebrate with their close family with cake and ice cream, or sometimes like on decade birthdays they may do something more special. Like when I turned 40 my husband took me to Las Vegas for my birthday. When I was 30 they had a big surprise for me and all of my friends and local family came. But everyone does things differently when it comes to birthdays.

Hi, when I was younger I had birthday parties and my mom would really spend but not really extravagant. She can afford because my birthday is in summer time where there's no class and fortunately the day after payday. Now, I celebrate with just family with the usual meal but with a cake bought by somebody else and food for long life which is spaghetti or pancit. It's not good to borrow money for celebrating birthdays or other celebrations like fiestas. It's a bad habit really. Now, you're celebrating and very happy, tomorrow you're scratching your head on how to pay and you don't have food anymore.

Celebrating a birthday is not necessarily through food preparation. You can celebrate it without food, it can be celebrated in different ways like just pure fun, going to the church and strolling around the park and malls. Personally I don't like celebrating my birthday with foods. I just go to the church and that's it.

hello cupcyke! i think preparing foods for our birthday is good only if you have money to spend for it! but if you will lend money just to have foods for your celebration, i think its not a wise thing to do...we can celebrate our birthday even without those foods...what is important is that we are alive and celebrating it with our loved ones... as for me, when i am younger my mom always cook something for my birthday....but now, what i just do when its my birthday is that eat out with my husband! hehe and of course say my prayers to God and thank Him for my life and His guidance...
