Hi,everyone! I am so happy these days because one professor told me to help him with C the programming language, that means I am a 'teacher' now. However,I am just a sophomore and my student will be those freshmen.Though the professor think I can do it well,I am worrying about the job.I am afraid if I can not teach them well and they will laugh at me.....And,I am not old than them,I can not act like a teacher in front of them I think...Any suggestions?

I had to face this issue when I first started teaching. I had just graduated from University and started teaching right away. Due to some unexpected circumstances, I found that I had to teach some of the senior classes - where I knew the students were my age or even older than me. I just put on a really serious 'face', took care with the way I dressed; in short, I projected an image of a serious, no nonsense teacher. I knew it wasn't enough in that situation that I knew the subject. I also needed the students to take me seriously. For that, I had to create the right image and impression. For the record, it worked :) So, good luck with your new assignment, and I hope these tips help.

Don't worry about this, man. There are always some ways to teach the students. One efficient way is to be your student's friends. Let them know that you understand and respect them. You treasure their unique thoughts. You want to share with them your experiences. And the most important thing is, you would like to listen to them with patience. If you could do this, nobody will laugh at you. The age is the last thing you need to worry about.

I am a teacher to under graduate students and I am just one year older than them and I see that it is easy to teach them than to teach some one who is smaller. Only thing is you have to get a way to get into them.

Even though you are in a teaching position, treating your students like peers can go a long way. I think the ability to occasionally make a joke or even laugh at yourself if you mess up makes you seem more approachable, but at the same time, I would let your students know that you won't tolerate disrespect on any level. Most of all, just relax. If you present the material you're teaching as if you were talking to a friend about it, they may be more receptive.

It will be just like having seminars in the class among your friends.Yet this will be different that all the students will be new to you.Your professor would not have chosen you if you are not good at the subject.Just move on friendly with the students and don't be lineant as they are your age.Everything will go fine.Cheers!

Hey! Can you clear one thing Please, Do you confidence on you and can you satisfy you professor expectations. I think really you can do. The same situation is arising to me since my career beginning. When I was in my first career I used to teach all elders of my age and soon I start teaching to my aged and younger too. The basic thing is we must mingle with them and we should understand their needs first. If you can deliver thing according to their needs, no one will laugh at you, they feel proud of you and they will inspire by you. I will you all the best and keep PM if you still have problem in teaching.

Well try to shed off some pressure. First thing you got to do is study the particular lesson that you're gonna present. Practice delivering the lesson until you're confident enough about it. Don't think that only old age people has the right to teach. You can! Don't think of yourself as a teacher. Try to think of yourself as a friend of the class and have a natural conversation with them. This way you'll minimize much pressure. And last but not the least, think positive!!! You can do it!

just be yourself, have a confidence. Teaching is like reporting in front of your classmates, few of my classmates also teaches college students with the same age with them.

you put too much on the whole teacher thing consider your self an advisor that would proabably help in easing the whole im the teach now syndrome you put apon yourself. Its all about perception if you fail to perceive yourself as a teacher then perceive yourself as something lesser to help cope with fear. When all else fails picture the class naked... except the big hairy guy in the corner picking his nose.

I would say, If you are unsure about it you should teach under the proffessor's supervision for a while.Don't focus too much on the age of those you teach, it isn't very important. Just avoid a "know it all" attitude and do your best. If the professor asked you to teach, and you want to, you will probably do it well.

Congratulations! Teaching is one of the noblest profession, don't you know that? I am also a teacher and I understand how you feel. I remember the first time I teach. I was a substitute teacher of Grade 6 students. I was still young back then and the students are most likely on the same height and some are bigger than me. Since I was young, I found out that me and my students just have the same interests. We even talk about the PSP thing as well as social networking sites. My students think I'm cool because they can talk to me about those things. That was fun though be careful because respect may be over looked in that case. There should always be a line between you and your students. I don't think there will be reasons for them not to like you just because they are almost the same as your age. Just do well in everything that you do and the rest will follow. Good luck!

Hi there hxstar.... if you are not eligible why should your professor ask you to teach them c? so you must be stronger in C, or you are very good in handling things.... so first trust yourself... have self confidence... never show out your fear buddy.... make moves as if they are your friends... then it becomes a friend circle... s it difficult to teach a friend???? as simple as that.... Best of luck buddy... and may god be your side....

A good teacher to student of the same age doesn't measure its effectiveness in teaching because of age. Once you are a good teacher, you are flexible enough to handle any students personalities and ages. There are some students older than their teacher and it really doesn't matter.

Hm... just think that they are your friends and need your help to improve their skill or knowledge about something. Like study together with your friends. The important thing is make good condition in the class, don't too serious. Just make it relax. May be you have to insert jokes so they are interest to you.
