What lifestyle would you choose if you could?

Do you ever wish that you had enough money to have the type of lifestyle of your choice? I have always wanted to live the frugal hermit type lifestyle...I often think that it would be nice to live a life in a log cabin in the middle of the woods where your closest neighbor is maybe 10 or 15 miles down the road. I would like to have a small garden for some veggies and greens, cut coupons and freebies, home school my kids, come to town once a month for refills. I want to learn how to sew for things I may need and craft for fun. I would want to live a s cheap as we could but I would still need the television and computer so I guess I wouldn't be living that frugal....so what type of lifestyle would you choose to live if you could?

Well me, I want a simple lifestyle inside a fortification - like house, living alone and sleeping on coffins and feeding on blood. Sounds funny right? Well if that is possible, I will do anything for it.

Life of a vampire???? Well it is your choose and if that is what you will like then more power to you. I am not one to believe in vampires but also as I say this I think I hope no vampires read this and tries to suck my blood while I sleep...this is definitely a unique lifestyle and one I will try to stay away from LOL...best of luck and thanks for your response.

It sounds like you need to move to a more rural country living...it can be so peaceful as well. I couldn't live in a city living, I hate noise, traffic, crowds and the craziness. Thanks for your response.

If I had to live life according to my will, I'd like to stay in a place where my neighbors are my closest friends and family relatives. Each house should be 4 meters away from each other. In my house, their should be an entertainment room wherein I can ask for celebrities, band, singer or any personalities that I like to perform in front of me. Within that room, it also is a mini theater in case I'd like to watch movie or a television. A basketball court where I can play basketball each time I get tired. A beautiful garden where flowers scent is everywhere. Some trees around which has a tree house built in it. A swimming pool, to where I could swim. A small research laboratory for heavenly objects, UFO's, medicine creation and technology upgrading. A mini-library is also needed in one of the rooms. And in the house, their live a family of as many as I can with my wife.

See I am total opposite that to me is too much...I like a quiet house with just my family but having another house 4 meters away from the house is nuts, I would feel like I had no privacy. I do like your mini theater idea though, i bought a popcorn machine a few years back or my family for when we have our movie nights but it is just in our living room..although we have always thought about having a home theater. It sounds like you want the super star celebrity lifestyle, that is too crazy for me although that type of money would be nice LOL Best of luck thanks for your response.

I would just be happy if I had enough money to not have to stress over money. Its tiresome not having something I want, something as simple as a photo printer for my digital camera, because I have to choose whether I want that, or to pay my bills.

I always make sure my bills are paid first because I have had the unfortunate deal of getting behind and it took me so long to get them caught back up, so I have always promised myself that no matter if I didn't have a penny left to my name I at least had my bills paid and that takes a huge weight off of ones chest. There are a ton of things I would love to have but I know that I don't have the money so I take what I can and try to make the best of it. thanks for your response.

having a lot of money is accompanied with lots of problems too. I guess if I do have lots of it, the best thing I would do is to live in a "low profile". A good Samaritan would definitely my choice. This way I would not have many enemies and people will love me and not thinking that my life will be endangered at all times. But I guess I was wrong, as I see many Samaritans being kidnap nowadays.

A good Samaritan sounds good although there is also that scare like you said of someone being mad at the good you do or trying to do something harmful towards you. I have learned that the more you stay out of the crowd the less problems we have and I believe it will be the same with being a good Samaritan as well..you mean good but that may also mean ore problems and drama.

I'd rather live in a small house, with not a lot of money, but enough to feed a family. Working hard is a lesson, and when I have kids I want them to work hard, not slack off with my money. Learning is a part of our next generation.

That is how I feel as well..I want my kids to appreciate everything that they have and learn that money doesn't grow on trees and you have to work for what you have and get. It took my husband and I a long time to get where we are and although we are not rich money wise we are rich family wise but we know that what we have took us a long time and we can't just get to this point with a snap of our fingers so we take good care of the little that we have. Thanks for your response.

I love being in the woods...I think you and I should switch lives =) I think it also be a great life to be frugal and to live off the world as much as you can, to be very handy and definitely crafty...to almost be a Suzie Homemaker/Marta Stewart type. Thanks for your response

When I was young, I used to think what my life has become if i was born rich. being able to buy the newest clothes, eat your favorite food, do the fun and leisures of a typical rich guy. But as you grow older and time and experiences has made me wiser, having lots of money

LOL, yes time definitely does make you wiser. I used to dream of growing up and becoming famous when I was little but now that I am an adult all I want to do is be a child again..isn't it funny how it all works out LOL. Thanks for your response.

hey froggieslover, Your dream and mine are very similar. Though I wouldn't care if I were rich or not... I do need some startup money to get it all started. Ie. Buy a plot of land off in a country side... (a big plot-- to ensure my privacy), and the money to fence it or defend it if I have to... or protect it more likelly, for the animals that I will likely live with. Then I would like to spend about $500,000 or whatever it takes, to build a rugged Earthship with both the tires and strawbale, (look up earthships and eco-friendly or off-grid housing if you're curious), and solar panels and a wind turbine. I too will grow a garden, with the philosophy known as "Permaculture"-- a renewable garden. And I would try to depend on as little as possible the governmental things, the economy etc... I just want to live on this Earth like human beings were meant to live here. I my humble opinion, I think we've really all lost touch with life on Earth and our true spiritualities.

I agree that we have lost touch with Earth. I guess what you have said is what I wanted to say in the matter of living without the government things, the taxable unyour things. I want to live like the Amish or the Little House on the Prairie gang..although I am not sure I could love without a computer because of the east but I have before so I am sure I can again. But I just wish to live a simple life...thanks for your response =)

i've been thinking this all the time, and working for it, but don't know when can i have that kinda lifestyle, hehe. If i could, i would like to have a relaxed lifestlye, but all means, have my own business, not big but enough for me to support my family and a little extra for vacation. One times a year i can go for vacation with my families, just relax, enjoy the happy and wonderful family time with my parents, my hubby, my kids. Nothing will disturb me at that time, all i need to do is have fun with my kids, my families. Wake up with a beautiful ocean view suit, walking in the sand, enjoying the full body spa... another time a year for vacation only with my hubby, just like another honeynoon again each and every year. Hehe, Wish all these dreams come true, happy mylotting.

Sounds like a nice lifestyle especially being able to just enjoy family time with no distractions. I too would like to start my own small business, just enough for some extra spending cash would be nice. I wish all your dreams are able to come true as well. Thanks for your response and happy mylotting.

Interesting how there is a topic and discussion on this. Why don't we have the choice in the first place?
• United States

Possibly because of ones situation whether it be financially or other reasons. Everyone does have a choice as to how they want to live but unfortunately what we want or choose doesn't always happen that way. Thanks for your response.

Interesting question.... At one point in my life, I too wanted to be a hermit. That was when I was quite young, perhaps in my early teens. I saw the stress. I thought about having to work real hard, not really my cup of tea! I hated studying, and was told I had to study to do well in life and to make a decent living. Shheeeesh! I thought to myself....why can't we just live a simple life. No worries. Live in a tree house. Live off the earth. Roof over your head, food on the table, does not cost a cent. What else do you really really really need. But alas! That is not reality. I found that out as I grew older. Cos what about clothes and stuff? what if I get sick and need to see a doctor? Hmmmm....So I endeavored to do real well at work. Which I did, was the youngest manager in the company I worked for, earned more than most of my peers. Became a director by the time I was 28 years old. Owned my own company before I was 30. But was this success? I don't know. was I happy? I guess so. I am usually happy with my lot (no pun intended) :) Looking back, and answering your question, the lifestyle I choose is a happy, contented one. Materialistically, as long as I have the basics (anything more is a bonus). Other than that, unfortunately the rest of the things are slightly out of my control. I look for a loving caring family. Good friends. No fights, no quarels, everybody laughing and joking all day. No one annoying somebody else.....no complains...A happy life....style. And once again, is this realistic? Looks like I have come round a big circle....back to square 1. So now.....I simply look for a peaceful lifestyle....still working on it! :)

I like your response and agree that being happy is the most important thing in life not the house, clothes or money you have. But I also think that I will be happiest if I could take my immediate family and move us out into country land where we don't have any close neighbors that way we don't have the bother of others often and husband and I could start a small home business to make the money to feed, clothe and care for ourselves and children. I want to grow as much food as I could to help feed us, I would want to make the clothes so it wouldn't cost as much, home school my kids so I could more control what they where being told and not being told. Being rich is not what I would want now of course I want to be able to make enough to get me by and not have the stress but living simple, happy and "off the land" is the better life style to me. Thanks for your response =)

When I was younger my dream life was a life where I travelled all the time and lived in many different countries. I still love travelling, but now I am married, I have a home and many pets, so I can't just travel for months like I did when I was younger. Today I would choose a different lifestyle, and I would like to have a life where I worked as an artist and a writer. I already paint and write, but I don't make much money that way. I would like to paint all day and make enough money to pay my rent and my bills, that is the lifestyle that I would choose if I could Another choice would be a life where I worked with people with learning disabilities or mental illnesses, or a life where I worked as an art therapist or a music therapist.

Of course,I like to have the type of lifestyle of your choice. But I don't think there are relationship between money and my lifestyle.Even if I'm poor,I still could choose my own lifestyle. As long as I could feel happy in my life,my own lifestyle is realized.

I wish I will have enough money and I would like to have this type of lifestyle. because I can buy anything what I need, and I don't need to worry whether I have enough money to pay after I like the goods, and I can make something let me look younger and beautiful.

If only we could all stay young and beautiful the world would be a beautiful place LOL...I think if we all had enough money that we would have to worry about buying anything to make us young and beautiful because the stress of finances would be gone and I am sure we would all be too stress free to grow old LOL...

Good question :) Honestly I do wish sometimes that I had a lot of money, but mostly to put it to good use and valuable things that I need. If I were rich I would help my parents out and let them move to a nice, peaceful town in a nice neighborhood. I would not worry about buying me a big, fancy house but it would be nice. I want to live in a nice, quiet environment by the ocean. I would want to have nice trees outside of my house and plants and a entirely nice environment. My whole object in life is to obtain inner peace and happiness by doing what I want to accomplish. I want to become a great martial artist and musician one day. A lot of the money I would have by being rich will be to help others as well.
