As you all know little Gissi has been very poorly
I have never heard of the Dog Stomach Flu until my Friend who breeds Dogs rang me and told me this is what Gissi sounds to have and I have had Dogs all my Life
Well I have found out that now 4 Dogs in the Village have been down with it, some worse then others
The Dog over the Road is 16 years old and has gone down really bad with it, he vomiting and there is some blood to also in his Stool and so far he is in the worse state with it
The thing is Gissi has to go out and I have no garden, so I am forced to take him out which means he is at high risk catching it again
The Signs are, they go very quiet, they do not want to eat, drink or anything, they have no energy
If they do not drink you need to get water down them or they will dehydrate
When they start recovering please just start them with a bit of Food at the time, do not let them over eat
Also they will get a cough, just give them a touch of Cough Mixture which does help
Gissi was not actually sick, but choking as though he was going to be sick, when they are sick, it is white like flem , I do not wish this on anyone's Dog, it is terrible to see them and you can't do anything but just help them by following the steps my Friend gave me
Of course if they are really bad please take them to the Vet, what I mean by that is if you see Blood in Vomit or Stool
Like I say little Man is ok again, but I am dreading it if he should get it again, as it seems to be flying round the Village right now
Have you ever heard of this Illness in a Dog?????

Yes My Banjo had the flu years ago I never knew then that dogs could get the flu but vet had me treat it just like I would treat myself when I got it.
Very good Idea to get tehm over it as fast as you can. Hoping that dog across the street is ok and makes it tho it is 16 years old so you both should be prepared that dog might not make it thru so sorry to say that but 16 is old for doggies

I am so sorry Gissi had the flu! I have never heard of a dog getting the flu before. Now I know what to look for in case my dogs ever get it! I hope that Gissi doesn't get it again! Maybe they build up an immunity to it like humans do?

I have cats, but in the past, when we had lots of cats, they got feline gastroenteritis, sounds like the same thing. I would think, however, that once Gissi has had it, he should have some immunity. Just keep him on a mild diet. I am glad he is doing better. Boiled chicken is good.

I have never heard of such thing. I am sure it is possible that my dogs have been sick with a cold or a flu and I just did not know what it was. My dogs have had their "off" days. Perhaps, they were sick that day. Whatever it was, it did not last long and my dogs were always fine. There were a few times I took them to the vet for check-ups and there was one time when Lizzie was sick and did not seem to be getting better. That was the time the vet gave her some medicine and she was back to being her perky self in about two days.

Friends are really angels, Imagine if not for a friend who cares, (am glad she's from Yuwie) still you continue to worry and feel sad for Gissi. Thanks to her at least my sweet friend Gabs is now happy again and of course Gissi's recovery was also beacuse of being a great nurse of his mum to him. Take care Gabs hope Gessi won't get sick again and both of you would continuously be in good health.

This sounds more like parvo. It's a virus that dogs get. They will and can die from this. The parvo eats up the lining of the stomach and that is why they die. I have saved many puppies and dogs from that when I worked at the humane society.
I gave them droppers of water every time I could, made sur ethat every hour I gave them some pepto bismol, that coats the stomach and protects it from the parvo.
I would be up all hours of the night doing this for them. But I saved most of them. That stuff is very contagious. I'd have to wash my clothes and bathe everyday when I came in from work before I could or would let my animals near me. They could not be around my clothes either, they went straight into the wash.
Parvo is a nasty thing for them to have. I hope they don't have that.
Good luck with poor Gissi. Make sure he is drinking water and eating, also you may want to give him something to coat his stomach. I would just to be safe.

I've never heard of this. The only virus I know of is the Parvo virus which needs immediate treatment by a veterinarian. They need antibiotics for Parvo. I had a dog who, when he was a puppy, contracted Parvo and got the same symptoms that you mentioned. He became extremely lethargic very quickly. When I took him to the vet's, they admitted him immediately and kept him there for 4 days when they said he had a 50/50 chance of making it.
When he was well enough to come home, I was instructed to feed him baby food (puried meat) and had to give him antibiotics for another 10 days.
I hope this is not the same thing as the "dog stomach flu"!

Hi Gabs,
I have not heard of this Dog Flu as I have no dog but it is a terrible thing, I hope it will go away soon, wonder where this came from, poor dogs, is there no vaccines for dogs with that kind of flu?
