I've found a new Mylot toy!

Okay, I've been a member for 6 months, and I should know how it all works by now. Those of you who know me well know that technology is not my strong point, but I have worked out how to upload profile photos and also to upload appropriate photos to various interests. Well, I've just discovered that I can make my uploaded photos default icons for the interests. So now, as my interests parade across the screen, I see my favourite photos, and Mylot is even more like my second home than before. Did you know you can do this? Have you done it? Can you pass on any other nice little Mylot features that this technical thickie may have missed?

I saw you talking about toys and I thought... no never mind Oh did you not know about that before Sandra? Well I wonder what else is new to you too. If I knew what you don't know yet then I would tell you about it but until you let us know what it is that you don't know, I can't help Sorry

For shame, Diana! You're a bad influence on me - I was very shy and retiring until I added you to my Friends list. And if you believe that, you can fold gravy. To answer your point, I don't know what I don't know, because if I did, I would know it, and then I wouldn't not know it, would I, so I wouldn't need to be told what I don't know, as I'd know it. Does that make sense? Thought not!

Perfect sense! And about the friends list - don't similars attract? Or was that opposites?

Bit of both, I think. All I know is I have some great friends on here who are a lot of fun, and Thea, Alice and yourself are top of my 'Best Friends' list. Mylot has been even better since we all got together. I still say you're a bad influence, though!

Yes, it's nice that we can earn for our photos. They stay on the interest photo page, and if it's an interest which doesn't get many photos uploaded, you'll see your photos for some time. I put one up on 'people' yesterday, and it's already on page 10, so they must get lots uploaded there!

Hi Sandra, you can show me when you pop over in the camper van, it took ages and ages to get my Greek life style avatar up there. But I did know this one as if one ticks the icon in the photographs set in an interest that becomes the picture one will see, so whilst everyone else sees some pink animal for pe I see Robert Maxwell, and if you tick the icon by his picture you will see it too. Believe me you don't want any technical tips from me though.

Good grief Alice, that's a rare compliment on me on techno things, I must frame it. By the way did you get the gall bladder into the mail ok, someone somewhere thought you were sending it because I must need an operation for a new one.

Hi Sandra well i am not exactly a techi here but i am aware of those things you mentioned, the interest icons i haven't changed coz i have got used to them and i like them the way i have seen them and so i am not going to change those interest avatars and talking about customization i guess you can always customize your mylot profile, i have changed the whole background of my profile giving it a different feel and also a music player plays and all and yeah according you what you like and what not you can add for remove sorties as well or even rearrange them the way you want other to see it, not something most of you haven't known about though... but yeah mylot is my second home as well , it's been five months and i try to come here as and when i am free... anyways you have a nice day Sandra!

I might try and customise my profile later, although I quite like it as it is. I wouldn't put music on there, though, as some members say it slows down loading the profile page, and it might discourage people from visiting profiles if it took too long. I don't know about this personally, as I haven't been on any musical profiles to my knowledge.

oh yes Sandra, it does make it a little slow for loading, well music is nothing that fancy to show in the profile, but i just like to put some in mine, it's just like an expression... well it does take time to open up the profile but the ones who are actually interested to see my profile will have to anticipate a little.

Hello my friend I must admit I was hopping you would have shared your know how with us lol, because kitty does not have a clue I know how to upload to change my avatar but that is it, my profile itself is so boring I want to add a little color but don't want to botch anything up so I leave it alone, care to give kitty a little tip on how she can do this as well, I will appreciate it.maybe after adding color then I can add a few pics it would be really nice. Thank you my friend.

Hello, Kitty. Sorry, don't know how to change colours and things - like you, I'm afraid to muck around too much. If you go to 'edit profile' at the top of the page, then 'photos,' you can upload as many pictures as you like, but to make a photo your default icon, you first need to upload it to the interest. Hope this makes sense. If I were you, I'd start a discussion called 'how can I customise my profile - instructions please, as I don't do technical.' You'll be swamped with responses from our clever friends, and you'll hace a profile page to die for!

Hello my friend I read some of your responses so I have a pretty good idea now, thanks so much for this. I like this idea, never thought about starting a discussion about this, my profile is so boring, I will play around with it today and see what happens. Thanks for this response, I think you are right my profile will look great real soon. Thanks again my friend.

What made you think technology is not your strong point? I never think I could do that, and I never even go and explore it. How did you find out the function? Though I have been with mylot for a few years, I don't really know much functionality, and I thought they don't exist, didn't even know where and how to find them out, until I read tips from others, like you. Thanks for the tips!

Well about adding photos to your profile, and to the started discussions, I knew, but one can make there photos the default photos for certain interests is pretty new. I have never thought of it this way, I think I will try it out myself. But I suppose that those icons would be specific to only my account. I hope everyone can see the icons I use! Take Care

I've been here forever and I did not know this one. I am not very good with the technicalities of anything. Actually, I am if I'm in the mood to figure something out. That is only because I have a mountain of patience when I'm in that sort of mood and I will sit here and play around with it until I figure it out. Thanks Sandra!

Congratulations it is good to know how to do that. I have uploaded a few photos here and there here on mylot, I don't do it all the time but sometimes I have even thought of discussions to start based on pictures that I had. So that was kind of like a two for one for me. Have fun uploading your pictures, it will be nice to see them.

That's a good idea - using a picture to start a discussion. I'll remember that when I'm searching for inspiration. I'm putting a few more photos on my profile page, as once they've been on the interest page for a while, they disappear. I'm having great fun with my new toy!

Yup I have seen a couple of pics you have uploaded. The one in the Oktober fest is really cool. Which interest you have put it under?

I've put several of those up. There's one of me and my husband in 'love,' one in 'Germany' and one in 'be happy.' No stopping me now!

I have already known that you could change the picture of your interests. But I never do change them, since I think the original pictures are fine Anyways, I don't have much information about mylot to share, since I am still fairly new here.

Hello, Merlin. I like most of the icons, but it's nice to personalise them now I know how to do it. I've got one of my husband and I as my 'love' icon, and it's nice to see familiar photos on the screen.

Yes, I understand using familiar pictures would be a nice sight. I think that it's very sweet how you have your husband and yourself as the picture for the 'Love' interest Great example of using your own personal pictures! And guess what? I am using my Emotion Chip for this comment

mylot really does need a better interface, it's really not easy to edit anything, could be a bit more user friendly, thats why it took you so long to find you could edit pics.

Hello, solared. No, it took me so long because I'm stupid when it comes to computer stuff! As a lay person, though, I think there's so much going on on Mylot, there are bound to be glitches. As long as I can do what I want, I'm happy, but it must be frustrating for the more technically minded members.

I knew this could be done, but I have not done it yet. I get so busy with the typing and answering, I can upload photos, and I can put them in my interests, but I have been lazy about doing it.

Hello, GG. I get engrossed in the typing as well, especially over the last few days, when the discussions have been really interesting. A few days ago, when things were quiet on here, I decided to upload some photos to the interests, and that's when I made my discovery. Now I'm like a kid with a new toy - hence the discussion title!

As excited as a little girl I am happy too to learn something from your new discovery. Born in an era where computer was not born yet, I admit I am no computer savvy and only learn its application from my kids by just standing behind them while they are on the net. Luckily my mind has not gone rusty and picked up fast from just watching theses kids play computer games.

Hello, Zandi. Yes, that's our trouble - we didn't grow up with computers. Like you, I've learned what I know from observation, and I can do a lot more now than I could even a couple of years ago. I'm really excited that I can do this, although to most members, it's no big deal. My mind is pretty sharp, but it goes on holiday when technical stuff rears it's head!

I knew I could do it if I started my own interest. I have never tried it with one that somebody else started. As for me, I figure things out as I need to know them, so I doubt this thickie knows much more than any other thickie!

hi sandra. i thought there's really something new again here, which we can all play together i remember someone before, when i was still new here, that pm'd me and asked how to do a thing here, like uploading a photo and making it his profile photo. i never new that since i was new, so i explored and then i got it, and then pm'd him back and explained how to do it. well, i say this, to let you know that you can also pm me and ask help if you have something anyway, anybody who uploads photo in a certain interest can also share that with other members, setting that as their default interest icon. remember the "not interested at all" interest i've created? the one who uploaded the "oh no" monkey photo was mysdianait and most member of that interest set it as their default icon... neil

Hello, Neil, and thanks for the offer of help. Although I'm a technical thickie, I can follow explicit instructions. When I started the 'farting' interest, Lamb very kindly uploaded an icon for me, as I hadn't got a clue. I love your 'Not interested at all' icon - and the discussions there. Of course I'll call on you for help if I need to, but I'm quite excited that I've actually worked out something technical all by myself. It may seem nothing to most people, but it's a life changing event for me!
