Netbook or Notebook... which do you prefer?

I just bought a netbook a week ago... and i must say that it is very handy... i was able to bring it anywhere because it is very light and small... as small as an ordinary textbook... not like the laptop i am using in the office... which is like the opposite... But i must say... when it comes to typing and doing my regular work... even mylot... i still prefer the regular size laptop... because the screen is bigger and i can easily read discussions, letters, emails, essays, and other stuff... i fell that a netbook makes everything look too crowded... especially when i have a lot of windows open... Now that i have two kinds of laptop... i feel like i have the best of both worlds... though using one in the office and another one at home can be quite confusing... it will take a lot of getting use to... but i will get there in the future... So which do you prefer? a netbook or a notebook... do you have both or only one?...

I prefer notebooks. I have an acer aspire laptop and I love it. I'm a power user or gamer so I bought a notebook. Netbooks are great but I can't play games with it. There are also notebooks out there that are light and small and best they're cheap the same with the price of common netbooks. Dell will be releasing their new notebook laptops that are light, small, with of course greater features than of a netbook. Best is the price. It's the same with netbook. They did it to counter the sales of netbooks today. shadow41

The laptop i am using is an acer aspire and the netbook is a neo... i chose the neo because it i was quite cheap and it came with a free external dvd drive... i would have bought the acer brand but it was much too expensive for me... Thanks for the response...

Oh I heard lots of horror stories about neo laptops. How is it going for you? Are you not experiencing any trouble with your neo laptop? Anyway I like the designs/themes or skins of neo especially the pink one. Hahaha. shadow41

So far so good... it has been two weeks and no problems just yet... i was skeptical to buy a neo laptop... but since there is a warranty and it is quite easy to fix because parts can easily be bought in shops...

Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. I think for meeting, work purposes and presentations, a netbook is cool. For a long-term usage, notebook is more better. It has a bigger screen and everything can be seen more clearer and etc..

I agree with you... netbooks are cool when it comes to presentations... i brought mine when i had a teaching demonstration and the students were in awe when they saw it and made my powerpoint presentations more interesting for them... Thanks for the response...

It's my pleasure. There's always this fascination about computers when it comes to kids. I've always wondered about that too when I was young, but it was the desktop computer instead of laptop. Those times, the notebook/netbook were almost non-existent.

HI aseretdd, I prefer to buy a notebook. It suits me more as its has a bigger keyboard. I had tried typing on both the devices before buying one. After having a typing comparison on the different keyboard, I felt that my fingers could run much easily and faster on the big keyboard with wider space What's more a netbook didn't have any build in DVD player. The only advantage of a netbook was its smaller size and was lighter as well. Therefore we could carry it around easily. Since I seldom use a notebook outside so I made up my mind to purchase a notebook finally then. I'm glad that my decision at that time was correct. I'm happy working and surfing net on my notebook frequently Have a nice day and happy posting!

Now that i am using both a netbook and notebook... i can see the advantages and disadvantages clearly... and i agree that typing is a lot easier and smoother when it comes to a notebook... but i was able to bring my netbood to different places now... and that is so convenient... Thanks for the response...

hello friend. i guess it's been a while since i last saw you here. been too busy? well me, i don't own either one of them. i even don't have a system at home. but i have a desktop here in the office, where i can do all my online stuff. this is not mine, but issued by the office for office use, though i can do online business, lol. but i saw a netbook already and tried using it. i accompanied one friend to buy hers and so i was the one who tested it and gave her signal to get it. it's a kinda lot of different compared to regular laptop. i must say if i have to choose and buy for my own, i'll get laptop. but i prefer desktop more. so far, i am contented with my mobile phone, where i can go online whenever i am away from the office, or we don't have net connection.

I was busy for a couple of days... so i was not able to post or response to any discussions... but i have free time now... it is always good to be able to mylot... my apartment is quite small so there is no space for a desktop computer... a netbook is the ideal device because it takes very little space... but when it comes to work things... i prefer to use my laptop... easier to type and to read stuff... Thanks for the response...

I have a fourteen inch laptop that has recently broken down and I am considering replacing. The only problem I have with the 14 inch screen is it is too small for some things I like to do when I have multiple windows open. It is wonderful for portability though and I would replace it with a netbook or a small laptop. I cannot get rid of my desktop though unless I get a laptop with a large screen. The netbook would be ideal for when I am not at home as it is readily portable.

My netbook screen is like less than 10 inches... so a 14 inch screen would seem big compared to that one... it was difficult for me to bring home the laptop i use in the office so i opted to buy a netbook so that i won't have difficulty if i need to bring it when i travel... Thanks for the response...

Although netbook is cheaper than laptop,I'd like to prefer last one.Netbook is really convenience, but It is very limited function in shorter time.Probably you can have both if you have enough money for it.You know they are not low price.

I now use both... but the laptop is not mine... it is owned by the company but i have freehand in using it since i can take it home whenever i like... but it is quite heavy so i can't take it with me when i travel... unlike a netbook which i just put inside my bag... Thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy every minute of your stay here...

I prefer a notebook because a netbook is too small for me. Besides, I do a lot of drawing on the PC so it is very inconvenient if my screen is so small. It may have an advantage though, the netbook, being able to bring it anywhere. But I'm a home buddy so it doesn't apply to me that much. And besides, if I do go out, I would want to spend that time doing something active and different from the activities I usually do at home. hehe. Because if I'm just going to be doing the same things, then I'll just stay at home.

My work entails me to travel a lot... so i really need something that i can bring with me... there are times when i spend time in the mall... so i need a netbook to access the internet instead of going to an internet cafe... if only laptops are a bit lighter to carry... i would prefer that because of the big screen... Thanks for the response...

My mother has just bought a netbook, and that's fine for her, as all she likes to do is browse the internet. For me however, I need a proper sized screen so that I can always see what I'm doing. I would hate to not be able to see the whole screen at the same time, that would annoy me. And plus, I need laptops with all the right drives, and sometimes the smaller netbooks don't have those do they.

I agree with the netbook not having all the drives you would need... it doesn't have a dvd drive and there is not dial up internet port... so there is a need for external drives... but since i only need it for internet purposes... a netbook is perfect for me... Thanks for the response...

For me it depends on the use of it....you are right net books have small screen...I prefer notebook although it is difficult to carry but it is good for the type of work I use it for....I do not like scrolling up and down....I actually use notebook for my office work which requires viewing lots of data at a time..

I agree with the scrolling up and down problem but i don't have my own car so i take public transportation... and a netbook is so convenient... the only is that the small screen... seems so crowded... Thanks for the response...

When I thought of replacing my good old desktop I had difficulty choosing between the two - the thought of having a small and very handy computer was really attractive, yet when I considered the benefits a laptop provides, which outweigh those of netbook, I settled for the laptop. I have not regrets with the decision so far.

Well, as long as you are happy and content with your choice... then congratulations because that means you made the right decision...the laptop does outweigh a netbook... in most sense that is... Thanks for the response...

I have to say I prefer notebooks. I use a compaq with a full size keyboard and really good big screen. My husband has a compaq netbook and I don't like the small screen and find it hard to type on the keyboard. His netbook is a lot lighter so is more convenient when we travel. We use my laptop to watch movies on etc which wouldn't be any good on the netbook.

Hi aseretdd! There are pros and cons of netbook of notebook. netbook small size very portable , light to cary, but with limited disk space. Its like more to use for internet access. Notebook heavier and bigger and got more disk space. Its suitable for doing work, internet access, softwares, games . So for me as a IT student i prefer notebook in specs way. =) . And i just have notebook =)

An IT student does need a notebook more than a netbook... your school activities mostly consist of working with a computer... so a laptop is the best device for you... i have a laptop in the office and a netbook at home... so i guess i have the best of both worlds... Thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy every minute of your stay here...

Laptop, Notebook, Netbook, Tablet PC, Mini PC - how are they different? A laptop is a mobile computer with a full sized keyboard, flip up monitor and space for built in optical or floppy disk storage drives. A notebook is a mobile computer with a full sized keyboard and a flip up monitor. It does not have space for built in optical or floppy disk drives but instead provides communication ports so that an external drive can be connected. This allows a notebook to be much thinner than a laptop. A netbook or mini pc is a mobile computer with a keyboard smaller than full size (some are less than half the size) and a flip up monitor. It also does not have space for built in storage drives but does provide ports for connecting an external drive. A tablet pc is a mobile computer with a full sized keyboard. It has a monitor that can be opened and then twisted around to lie flat on the keyboard with the screen pointing up. The monitor can then be written on. A touch sensitive layer in the monitor allows hand writing to be captured and stored. I prefer note book .....region you know above.

Hi aseretdd, The netbook is good for interenet browsing and while travelling, other than that if we have to work for long hours at the notebook then its not highly recommended, but I like the size and shape of it, though it looks small the keyboard is very good and almost same size as that of the notebook, only screen is the problem, like you said even few windows looks crowded.... I use a notebook in office (Acer travelmate) but soon will be getting a netbook at home!!!!

Aseretdd, I have not had an opportunity to use a netbook yet, but I like the definition "minimalist" in regard to them. BTW, here is an interesting article on netbooks: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2009/01/five-reasons-to-seriously-consider-buying-a-netbook.ars I did recently buy a smaller, lighter laptop and it is a joy to use. Next week I will be traveling somewhere that I do not feel like carrying even the lighter one, though so if I check in online at all before November, it will be on my smartphone, which of course has a teeny weeny screen.

Hello aseretdd, I think I prefer notebook. I love the mini look of netbook but it is quite a hassle to do job with it. If given a choice, I more prefer to have a desktop instead of notebook too *smiles*

Right now, I only have the full size dell laptop but I'm really planning to buy a netbook also because of it's very lightweight, compact size and only requires a small sleeve or bag to carry it around unlike my dell, I have to placed it in my laptop backpack and the weight combination is quite heavy, I was able to use an acer aspire one netbook before when a friend lend me his and it is really comfortable carrying it around, I always go out so buying a netbook as a secondary laptop is a good option for me. Although it is a little bit underpowered compared to full size laptop, I'll just use in for my internet activities anyway.

There are a lot of buildings and malls that have free wifi access... so a netbook is the best one to carry around if you are an internet junkie... i tried using mine while eating lunch in the mall and it was like a piece of heaven for me... Thanks for the response...

well, i dont have ones, i have a normal computer, but the other day i went with my father to computer´s shop and i asked about the difference between both, and the said me that the general use of a netbook is for search and surf on internet, not to work hard, like when you downloaded a sofware, they said me that the netbook speed is slower than a notebook or laptor,, im not sure of this, because just in this moment im seeing notebooks to buy,, but they said me that if i want a computer to work too hard, i must buy a notebook with a lot of memory or something like that,,, personaly, i dont like much a bigger laptop, because its too big, but im looking for a "normal" notebook, like 15´´ or sort of,, well friend, have a nice day1 and good 2010!

I never had a notebook although it would be nice to have. For me I'd like a powerful computer to play games on so netbook wouldn't be good for me. I'd put my money on a notebook with a decent enough screen like 12.1 inches.
