Hi mylotters. I know that here in the states we will be celebrating Thanksgiving on November 26TH. I know that a few weeks away yet, but it got me to thinking about what all I needed to do. Now that I will have a place to call home, the first thing will be that I decorate the outside and the inside with all the thanksgiving decorations. This year I will cook up a big Turkey with all the fixings for my side of the family the weekend before. Then on Thanksgiving day we will spend the day at his moms where all his family meets at for a huge dinner. Ahhhh, all of this has my mouth watering for turkey. With all this said, my question to you is..What do you do for Thanksgiving? Do you have that big dinner?

i guess our black friday sales are held on boxing day (dec. 26th). it is a holiday here and the stores are open and every one is either returning their christmas presents or buying stuff with the money they got. the stores are nuts but the sales are great!

In recent years my husband and I have spent it with his mom's side of the family as that's the only ones who do it anymore. My aunt does have thanksgiving, and she invites us but we don't like crowds. Before my husband and I got married, we started talking to my dad, and at the reception for our wedding, my father suggested we come by on Thanksgiving to eat with him and his family. We said we'd have to see if Jon was working and what we could do, and he said if nothing else we could pick up a plate and bring it home. He even said that my parent in laws were invited to come!
In any case, If he's off work we'll most likely go up to talk and maybe eat a little with my husband's side, and then we'll go to my dad's if we can find the way there, lol! It will be in a different county and in an area I know personally I haven't been in much, if at all as I'm not sure exactly where he lives.
But there ya have it though, our plans for Thanksgiving Day, or what we may be able to do, all depending.
If he works, I'll just be spending the day with my husband's side as I am just now studying for my permit, and can't drive.

It sounds like that you do have a plan to start toward. Maybe you get to go out to your dads. Just get ahold of him for the directions. I hope that you have a wonderful weekend. Keep smiling.

Directions are one thing, being able to follow them...
No, I'm sure we could get there with directions alone... It will be a long way from our home though!

We will be doing what we have done for years, having all the kids come over and enjoy each others company with lots and lots of good food! I have already started a list of what I need to do and what we need to get.
I find out what each kid is going to bring and we round it out. We have both Turkey and ham with all the fixings. It is the one time of the year that we do splurge some and really throw a good time with the good food. I cant wait as we have 8 kids and all but one will be here this year. Next year should be awesome thou as they should all be here. Along with this we will have almost all our grandbabies here too! All together we have 11 but again they all wont be here as the other parent will be having them that day. Im hoping for the day that all of them will be here at one time thou!

Thanks sounds like a grand time. I do miss spending the time with my family. It seems that every year times are changing within the family. We will still get to go to his moms and all his brothers and sister will be there to have a big wonderful dinner waiting to happen. Thanks for sharing and you have a great weekend. Keep smiling..

We usually have Thanksgiving at our house and I cook for everyone. My mom usually brings her broccoli caserole which I like and some people will bring desserts, but I cook everything else. I have been doing it for so many years now though that it is very easy for me to do. I have it down to an exact science now so I really don't have to think that hard on Thanksgiving day, I try to change one side dish every year, but other than that everything is pretty traditional.

Hey ladym
I like what you said about a new dish every year. I think I will try that this year and see how it goes. Thanks for that suggestion. You have a great weekend and keep smiling.

Well I'm living down in Mexico and as I jope you know they don't celebrate it down here! However I still do I love putting a good dinner together for any reason! My family here is all Mexican and love it when this time of the year comes around, I go up to Laredo Tx and get all I need for the meal because they don't have a lot of the things I need, plus I do some Christmas shopping while I'm there because it's much cheaper! I also go up there just before Christmas and get a large Honey Baked Ham! LOL! Now my mouth is watering!

Hi kitty
It is so good to hear from you. I once again was getting worried about you. I had started another discussion and didn't see you and that got me worried. Im glad to know that you are here. How is the computer? Is she still sick or have you got her some meds? I first wanted to let you know that I got the paint for the trailer and hubby and I are going over this evening to paint.
I know that when my parents was alive I spent all the holidays with them. I really miss be able to do that. Now I just spend the weekend before with my sister and her adult kids, and of couse my boys. Will at least one of them this year.
Im glad that you get to do the same as well. I know that you will have a wonderful time with them. Remember to eat bunches and give out plenty of hugs.
Kitty you have a great evening and don't be hiding any more....LOL..

To be honest I'm really not sure what is going to happen this year for Thanksgiving. I'll have several days off so I'll be traveling home probably on Tuesday evening. I'll have off until Sunday and then I'll have to travel back home so I can make it to work the next day.
The only thing that is certain to me is that I will probably be doing some sort of shopping on Black Friday. I'll either shop in the store or I'll shop online. I love the sales. I don't always shop the sales for Christmas gifts but I love taking advantage of all the price drops whenever possible. It's the best day to save money.

Oh Yes..I had forgot about the day after sales. I always try to get up early and go hit those stores as well. You do save quite bit of money on the sales, if it is what you need for Christmas. That will be my luck, that they won't have what I need on sale..LOL..
Thanks for sharing with me your plans or should I say not plans...LOL.

I was talking about Thanksgiving with my sister on the phone today. Apparently, my parents and I are going to make the three hour trek to her house this year. We'll be having Thanksgiving at her and her husband's house. Afterwards, we'll make the half hour trip to my mom's parents to eat dessert with them. My grandparents aren't up to a big dinner, but we all want to be able to see them. My sister lives a half hour away from them, but of course my parents and I are further away. My sister says she is cooking the big Thanksgiving dinner. Which is quite shocking. I guess there IS a first for everything!

Hi AmbiePam
A couple of years ago my neice cooked her first Thanksgiving dinner for the family. We was shocked too, and was worried how that would turn out. To our surprise she done a great job. The other family members brought in desserts and extras. It turned real nice. I think though that it was a little much for her, because she hasn't volunteer to do it again..LOL..Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend. Keep smiling.

I will probably go to my sister's house this year for dinner. She has 3 kids and lives very close by. And she is an excellent cook. Her husband also helps her in the kitchen on the holidays as well. He's such a great guy! She is very lucky to have been married to a wonderful man for over 25 years now.
I will of course try to take a dish. It is hard for me to ever decide what to take. If some of her close friends come by, they are vegan, so I will try to make something without meat in it for them. Otherwise, I may make my Italian salad. That is one of my few specialty dishes that I enjoy taking to holidays and carry-ins.
I may also go to my brother's house. He always likes to see me if we can get together. But sometimes it can be challenging because he ends up spending a lot of time trying to get together with his wife's family. Plus, if they have dinner at his house they don't eat until around 6:00 pm. That's too long for me to wait to dig into all of that good food. LOL

This year I honestly have no idea. I have plans for Halloween, my birthday, Christmas and New Years, but I sort of forgot about Thanksgiving. No big dinner for me on Thanksgiving. We stopped doing that years ago. One thing I always try to do is buy a pumpkin for Halloween and keep it as a decoration until Thanksgiving and then eat it.

Hi drannhh
We always have the big dinners on Thanksgiving and Christmas. We use to have other holiday dinners but over the past few years that has kinda faded out. I just hope that Thanksgiving and Christmas don't fade out. Okay all this talk has got me starving for the big juicy turkey...LOL.. Thanks for sharing and you have a great weekend. Keep smiling.

I need to train my stomach for Thanksgiving. I woke up this morning, felling a little sick. I'm not sure if I'll be able to really feast like I feel I should this year. I've been on what is shaping up to be a pretty successful diet the whole year. My appetite has changed for the better, I have a metric ton of energy most of the time, I fall in love with myself whenever I pass by a mirror(I'm still a work in progress, but the progress is mighty hansom.) and I just generally feel better about my self.
Now, I don't want to disrespect my family members by not eating anything when I come over see this this year. Obviously some sort of plan needs to be concocted. Other than pacing myself, avoiding the urge to fill up on cranberry sauce and potato salad, I may have to do some stomach stretches before stepping foot in the dining room. If I survive the big plate full of food, Maybe I can make it through the seemingly endless desserts that tend to follow as well.

Hi cb
Im glad to hear that you are making good success on your eating habits. I just wish that I could do that as well. Im going to be working toward that as well as the new year approaches. I was once on a good healthy weight lose ride. I lost last winter 24 pounds, and Im proud to say that I haven't gained it back. However I do need to lose that much more now. I just know that with all the holidays coming up that it would not be a good time for me to try and lose now. I would get depressed with the no results. I do hope that you will be able to eat what you enjoy for the upcoming Thanksgiving meal. Have a great day and keep smiling.

My club is having a fundraising activity for UNICEF. We estimates that we will get $1000+ of donation. I'm very glad to make a difference to other people especially in this tough economic times. Many people have no jobs are are buried in debt. And then some people take advantage of their need and scam them. I hope the economy recovers so I could find a job. Happy myLotting!

We dont do much decorating for Thanksgiving only for Christmas. We have a rather large family so lots of cooking and best of all homemade pies for dessert. Our son will be away for first time in military is going to be very hard this year without him home for the Holidays. I dont think it would be good to ship a thanksgiving turkey overseas to him, hope the military does something nice for our deployed soldiers.
